JERIC N. JIMENEZ, MA Ed- INSTRUCTOR
1ST SEMESTER - SY. 2023-2024
2. In this course, we will explore how technology has transformed the field of education and
its impact on teaching and learning. We will also discuss the importance of integrating
technology effectively into educational practices to enhance student engagement and
achievement.
PRE-EVALUATION:
5. How has the role of the teacher changed with the integration of technology?
Lesson 1: Introduction to Technology and Education
2. Access to vast resources: Technology allows students and teachers to access a wide range
of educational materials, including online databases, e-books, and interactive learning
platforms.
However, integrating technology into education also poses certain challenges, such as:
1. Infrastructure and access gaps: Not all schools and students have equal access to
technology and the internet, leading to disparities in educational opportunities.
2. Training and skill development: Teachers may require training and professional
development to effectively integrate technology into their teaching methods and adapt to new
tools and platforms.
3. Digital distractions and misuse: The presence of technology in the classroom can also lead
to distractions and misuse by students, necessitating clear guidelines and monitoring
strategies.
1. Access to information: With the internet and digital resources, students can access vast
amounts of information easily, promoting independent learning and research skills.
2. Interactive and multimedia learning: Technology allows for the creation of multimedia
content, such as videos, simulations, and games, making learning more interactive,
immersive, and engaging.
3. Blended learning and flipped classrooms: Technology enables the integration of online
learning and traditional classroom instruction, allowing for personalized, self-paced learning
experiences.
4. Distance learning and remote education: Technology facilitates online learning programs,
providing opportunities for remote education, distance learning, and access to education for
under served populations.
1. Enhances student engagement and participation: Technology can create interactive and
dynamic learning environments that encourage active participation and collaboration among
students.
2. Fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills: Technology can be used to create
authentic, real-world scenarios that require students to think critically, analyze, and solve
problems.
3. Prepares students for the digital age: By incorporating technology in education, students
gain essential digital literacy and skills that are increasingly important in the modern
workforce.
- 1960s: The advent of computers in education, primarily used for automation and
administrative tasks.
- 1980s: The introduction of personal computers and the rise of educational software and
computer-assisted instruction.
- 1990s: The emergence of the internet enables online research and communication, paving
the way for online learning and distance education.
- 2000s: The proliferation of interactive whiteboards, digital projectors, and multimedia tools
in classrooms.
- 2010s: The widespread use of mobile devices (smartphones, tablets) and the growth of
digital learning platforms and learning management systems.
- Present: The integration of emerging technologies like virtual reality, artificial intelligence,
and augmented reality into educational practices for enhanced learning experiences.
It is important to note that these milestones are generalized, and the adoption and use of
technology in education may vary across regions and institutions.

Discussion Questions and Answers:
5. How has the role of the teacher changed with the integration of technology?
- With the integration of technology, the role of the teacher has shifted from being the sole
provider of information to a facilitator, mentor, and guide who helps students navigate and
make meaning of the vast resources available online. Teachers now focus more on
facilitating collaborative learning, critical thinking, and digital citizenship skills.
