is all about and what did unesco do about it.

1. Education
Project: UNESCO Global Action Programme on ESD

• UNESCO's Global Action Programme (GAP) on ESD is a comprehensive


framework designed to accelerate progress towards sustainable development through
education.

2. Natural Sciences
Project: Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme

This project promotes sustainable development through the conservation of


biodiversity and the management of natural resources in biosphere reserves.

• UNESCO's MAB program aims to improve human-environment relations


through biodiversity conservation, sustainable development, and well-being. It has
established a global network of biosphere reserves for testing and demonstrating
sustainable practices.

3. Social/Human Sciences
Project: International Coalition of Cities Against Racism

This initiative aims to combat racism and discrimination in urban areas through
local government actions and policies.

• International Coalition of Cities Against Racism is a global network of


cities committed to combating racism, discrimination, and xenophobia at the local
level. UNESCO has played a crucial role in Establishing the ICCAR, Advocating for
inclusive cities, Fostering global solidarity and Providing resources and training.

4. Culture
Project: Memory of the World Register

This program preserves documentary heritage of global significance, aiming to


promote awareness of the importance of documents and archives.

• UNESCO identifies, nominates, and supports the preservation of


important cultural and historical documents. It also raises awareness and promotes
digital preservation.

5. Communication/Information
Project: Information for All Programme (IFAP)

IFAP promotes universal access to information and knowledge, aiming to bridge the
digital divide and empower individuals and communities.

• UNESCO advocated for access, developed infrastructure, built capacity,


promoted inclusion, and supported digital literacy.

6. Ocean
Project: Ocean Cleanup initiative
This project aims to remove plastic pollution from the oceans, particularly the
Great Pacific Garbage Patch. It uses advanced technology to collect and concentrate
debris, which is then recycled or repurposed.

• UNESCO has supported the Ocean Cleanup initiative by promoting


awareness and providing a platform for collaboration. The organization has
emphasized the importance of addressing marine plastic pollution through research
and education, encouraging partnerships among governments, NGOs, and the private
sector to enhance efforts in cleaning up oceans and protecting marine biodiversity.

7. Priority Africa
Project: Africa Climate Change Fund.

This initiative focuses on supporting African countries in addressing climate


change challenges through capacity building, funding for climate adaptation
projects, and promoting sustainable practices.

• UNESCO has been involved with the Africa Climate Change Fund by
supporting capacity-building initiatives and promoting education related to climate
change. UNESCO also collaborates with various stakeholders to ensure that climate
change adaptation and mitigation strategies are integrated into educational
programs and policies across the continent.

8. Priority Gender Equality


Project: UNESCO’s Global Education Monitoring Report on Gender

This annual report monitors progress towards gender equality in education worldwide
and highlights effective policies.

towards gender equality in education. It highlights gender disparities, provides
recommendations, monitors SDG progress, raises awareness, and supports national
planning.
