1. GENERAL
This manual contains maintenance and repair instructions for
passenger seats type 9629 double configuration manufactured by
SICMA AERO SEAT INC.
Subtask 25-28-48-870-001
A. CONFORMITY TO CERTIFICATION
The numerous requirements for demonstrating that a «seat system»
meets all the static and dynamics loads, the permanent deformation
limitations, and the injury criteria, imply that individual
elements of a «seat system» cannot be evaluated independently from
each other. This difficulty translates into keeping the integrity
of structures and other essential features affecting the
performance of the «seat system» intact as certified. These parts
include structural components, seat belts, backrest and bottom
cushions, fabric or leather covers, armrests, shrouds, armcaps,
baggage bars and impact surfaces on the seat backs, such as in arm
tables and appliances. Modifications by a non-OEM, or the
replacement of a non-OEM component, will invalidate the TSO C127
certification, unless certified by the OEM.

2. DESCRIPTION
Subtask 25-28-48-870-002
A. GENERAL
The passenger seats feature maximum comfort design and consist of
an aluminium base frame assembly to which are attached reclining
seat backs, central armrest assemblies, armrest and backrest
mounted food table assemblies and fully upholstered seat back and
bottom cushion assemblies. The passenger seats are installed and
secured to the floor tracks located in the aircraft cabin by track
attachment fitting at each front and aft leg. Seat dimensions are
shown in Figure 5. Seat dimensions not shown are the same as the
opposite view. Refer to Table for dimension tolerances.

B. SEAT’S FRAME
The seat’s frame is comprised of a front and a aft beam to which
fore and aft spreaders and machined legs are mechanically
attached. The spreaders serve as support for the armrests, the
backrest and the foodtray arms.

C. CENTRAL ARMREST
The central armrest consist of light weight metal structure which
is covered by a formed thermoplastic shroud, a molded injection
armcap and a metal escutcheon. It is designed to house, as
required, a passenger in-flight entertainment control unit,
backrest recline control and an ashtray. It can be pivoted upwards
to stow between the two adjacent backrests.

D. OUTBOARD ARMREST
The outboard armrest is similar except mounted in a fixed
position.

E. AISLE SIDE ARMREST
The aisle side armrest is incorporated into rigid structures and
shrouds. It is designed to house the control unit of the backrest
recline control, an ashtray and an in-arm table. In addition of
most of the features mentioned above, it also includes bumpers,
rub strips and a step for use by the flight attendant.

F. BACKREST
The backrest consists of a rigid metal box structure which is
attached to the primary frame in such a manner tha it can be
positioned at any recline angle between the design limits. A
molded foam cushion is glued to this structure then covered with
fitted upholstery which is secured with VELCRO.

G. SEAT BOTTOM CUSHION SUPPORT
The seat bottom cushion support is a sheet metal bottom attached
to the primary structure.

H. SEAT BOTTOM CUSHION
The seat bottom cushion is molded foam and is covered by
upholstery which secured by VELCRO. The cushion is held in place
with VELCRO.

J. FOODTRAY
The foodtray is stowed in the aft face of the backrest. In its
stowed position it moves in harmony with the backrest. However, in
its deployed position, it functions completely independently.
Even if the backrest is fully reclined, the full utilisation of
the foodtray is not affected.

K. RESTRAINING BAR
A restraining bar is installed through the front legs and wraps
around to attach to the underside of the aisle side armrest. This
allows for carry-on baggage to be stowed under the seat.

DO NOT LIFT AND TRANSPORT THE SEATS BY THE ARMRESTS.

3. SEAT ASSEMBLIES OPERATION

A. SEAT INSTALLATION AND REMOVAL
(1) To secure the seat assembly in the aircraft, position the leg
assemblies into matching holes in floor tracks. Slide the seat
to its proper location. Tighten the front studs castellated
nuts and the aft track member screws.
(2) To remove the seat, reverse the above procedure.
CAUTION: SCREW OF AFT TRACK FITTING MUST BE TORQUED TO

B. FOODTRAY DEPLOYMENT AND STOWAGE
(1) The foodtray is secured into the stowed position by a latch
which is positioned on the center of the backrest just above
the upper edge of the foodtray. To deploy the foodtray, move
the latch in either direction to the horizontal, pull the
foodtray towards you.
(2) To deploy an in-arm table, open the hinged armcap. Pull up on
the loop or notch at the aft edge of the table. It will rotate
180° in the vertical plane, then down 90° to the horizontal
position for use as a beverage or writing table. Unfold the
secondary leaf for use as a table as demonstrated below.

C. BACKREST RECLINE AND RETURN
(1) Depress the control button located in the forward near side of
the armrest while pressing back on the backrest. Release the
button when the desired angle of recline is achieved. Pressing
the reverse button, returns the backrest to full upright
position.

4. GENERAL FIREBLOCKING INFORMATION

Fireblocking is the term used to describe the method or system of
providing increased thermal protection for the foam in seat cushions.
For that reason, the cushions, fireblocking liner and dress cover are
considered to be a fireblocking system. Changes to any of the three
components of the system can affect the thermal protection capability
of that system. Two factors that affect capability are the
cleanliness of all the components and the integrity of the
fireblocking liner.
Liners are made of materials, which, because of their chemical
composition, provide inherent capability and do not depend on yarn or
fabric treatments and coatings. Liners have no shelf life and their
capability is not decreased by dry cleaning. Liner capability will be
decreased by mechanical damage and, as stated above, will be
influenced by the cleanliness of all components of the fireblocking
system (cushion, liner and dress cover).

A. FIREBLOCKING LINER
(1) Cleanliness: Slight discoloration, fading or color transfer
from the dress cover to the fireblocking liner are normal and
do not affect the capability of the liner system. Heavy stains,
particularly petroleum products, should be removed using mate-
rials and methods currently listed for upholstery. Care should
be taken not to soak the stain into the underlying cushion.
Commercial dry cleaning is acceptable for removing large
stains. If a liner is to be dry cleaned, be aware that liners
have a large amount of hook Velcro and care should be taken to
prevent them from damaging the liner or other covers and liners
during the dry cleaning cycle.
(2) Damage to Liners: The primary factor in liner capability is
the mechanical integrity of the liner. The mechanical
integrity is affected by wear holes and seams. If holes are
being worn in liners, the structure should be made locally less
abrasive. Dress sharp edges with a file or use glass tape. Tape
may also be used elsewhere.
- Generalized wear which results in a change of the liner
surface texture, sheen or color is of no consequences as long
as there is no hole through the liner.
- Holes in the liner can degrade its capability but tests have
been conducted that show that up to three (3) holes of 0.312
diameter still permit the liner to exceed minimum thermal
performance requirements. The number and size of holes noted
do not render the system nonflightworthy but the holes
should be repaired at the next maintenance interval.

B. REPAIR TO LINERS
(1) Seams: Resew seam using same stitch pattern and stitch count
used on other similar seams on the liner. Use only kevlar
thread.
(2) Holes: Must be patched, darning alone is not acceptable.
- Patch must be of the same material as the liner.
- Patch must be overlock stitched along its perimeter (not
required for felts).
- For cosmetic purposes and/or to prevent snagging, the hole
may be darned prior to sewing the patch in place.
- Patch may be on the outside or inside surface of the liner.
- Patch to be sewn on with the noted Kevlar thread using the
same stitch pattern and stitch count as other seams on the
liner.

- Patch to be sized so that seams in the parent fabric that
attach the patch are in undamaged parent fabric, preferably
at least one-half damage diameter width from the edge of the
damaged area.

C. DRESS COVERS
All previously stated considerations concerning dress covers
remain in effect. In addition to appearance and sanitary
considerations, the cleanliness of dress covers may affect the
thermal performance of the fireblocking system. Cleaning
intervals for dress covers should be evaluated to ensure against
excess contamination buildup and transfer of contamination
through to the fireblocking liner.
NOTE: The fabric looses it’s fireblocking capacity after twenty

washings.

D. CUSHIONS
The factors affecting the thermal performance of cushions are the
density of the cushions and theirs cleanliness.
Tests have shown that changes in cushion firmness (IFD /
Identification Force Deflection) do not affect the thermal
performance properties of the cushion.
Heavy stains on cushions, particularly from petroleum products,
should not be allowed to build up. Mild non-volatile, non-
flammable cleaners may be used gently on the surface of the
cushion. Do not rub hard enough to break the skin of the foam.
Because of the fire blocking layer, cushions can be expected to
remain fairly clean.

A. SEAT BACKREST ALIGNMENT
(1) Visually check alignment of foldable armrests in the deployed
and folded position.

B. BACKREST
(1) With all seat backrests in full upright position, visually
check alignment of the seat backrests against each other, none
should be obviously out of alignment.
(2) Check the upright position according to the paragraph
"Dimensions" (refer to Chapter "Description and operation").
(3) Adjust the position as necessary by loosening the 2 jam nuts
(item 5, figure 1001) of recline lock and moving forward end
of the recline lock forwards or backwards.
(4) Tighten the 2 jam nuts (item 5, figure 1001) after the correct
backrest adjustment is reached.

(6) Press the recline lock control button on armrest while applying
a force to the top of the seat backrest assy.
(7) The seat backrest assy should move to full recline position or
stop at any position upon releasing the recline lock control
button.
(8) Check the recline position according to the paragraph
"Dimensions" (refer to Chapter "Description and operation").
If required, slide the cover (item 5, figure 1002) backwards

then adjust the position as necessary by loosening the setscrew
(item 10, figure 1002) and moving the stop washer (item 15,
figure 1002) forwards or backwards.
(9) If needed, plastic washer(s) P/N 1-11-04-01-200 (item 20,
figure 1002) have to be added on recline lock rod to complete
the adjustment. Tighten the setscrew (item 10, figure 1002)
after the correct backrest adjustment is reached. Restore the
cover (item 5, figure 1002) to normal position.
(10) With the seat backrest in fully recline position, remove any
pressure applied to the seat backrest and depress the recline
lock control button on armrest. The seat backrest assy should
automatically return to full upright position.
(11) If pressing or depressing of the recline lock control button
on armrest does not allow the recline or return of the seat
backrest assy, ensure that the recline control head is attached
to the front end of the recline lock then ensure that the
plunger on end of the recline lock is pushed in when the
recline lock control button is pressed or depressed.
(12) If necessary adjust the setscrew (item 20, figure 1003) to
reach a correct operation.

(13) If above steps does not allow the recline or return of the seat
backrest assy, replace the recline lock if recline control is
mechanically operating correctly or replace the recline
control head if pressing or depressing recline control button
does not push in the plunger on end of the recline lock.

(1) Extreme care should be taken in cleaning all plastics. Alcohol
or bleaches based agents will never have to be used to clean
any plastic materials.
(2) All plastic surfaces should be cleaned with a mild soap (Ph< 7)
and water solution.

(4) Apply the solution directly to the surface and rub with a clean
cloth to loosen any dirts and debris.

CAUTION:
Cleaning agents with chlorinated solvents, methylated
spirit, acetone and/or strong detergents with high ammonia
or alkaline contents are strictly forbidden.
Steam cleaning is strictly forbidden.
The use of above mentioned product or procedure will affect
the material property, then it becomes brittle.

B. UPHOLSTERY CLEANING PROCEDURES (SEAT COVERS AND FBL)
NOTE: For woolen fabrics (carpet included) , machine cleaning
process (washing) must be avoided to prevent shrinkage.
Dry cleaning is recommended. When in doubt, contact the
fabric supplier.
(1) Machine cleaning process
(A) Identification and classification of the stains.
The covers must be examined before cleaning in order to
identify those having stains which will not be removed by
machine cleaning and therefore submit them to a pre-
washing. Machine cleaning can in fact alter these stains
and make their successive elimination quite difficult.
As general criteria remember that the following stains
are not directly removed in the machine and therefore
require a pre-washing :
- coca cola, wine, blood, fruit, sweat, food.
On the contrary, machine cleaning removes stains of :
- coffee, fats, alcoholic drinks, some kinds of ink.
Generally stains can be recognized as follows :
- coffee and ink stains for their color and neat outline.
- wine, coca cola, alcoholic drinks and sweat stains for
their extensive and shaded outline.
- food and fat stains for their consistence.
- Fruit and blood stains are not easily recognizable.

(B) Pre-washing
NOTE:
Pre-washing is advisable for all of stains of
uncertain nature.
Pre-washing must be carried out as follows:

(b1)Prepare a mixture of BC-2 Solugan, Perchlorethylene,
water with a 1: 0.5: 0.5 ratio.Quantity: about 1 liter
of mixture for 30 covers. Put the mixture in a bucket
and immerse the stained portion of cover rubbing
the fabric energetically until the characteristic
dirt of the stain has disappeared. Wring the fabric
by hand and repeat the operation if necessary.
(b2)Prepare a mixture of Neptune, Perchlorethylene, water
with a 1: 1: 1 ratio.Quantity: about 1 liter of
mixture for 30 covers. Perform the pre-washing as
described above.
(C) Preparation of covers
The adhesive stripes of all covers must be covered in
order to avoid fraying of fabric at the end of the
cleaning phase.
(D) Preparation of the machine
At least once a day it is necessary to perform the
following operations
(d1)to regenerate the Perchlorethylene through
distillation.
(d2)to add, directly in the reservoir, 1 liter of the pure
additive used in pre-washing to every 100 liters of
perchlorethylene.
(E) Washing phase
Before each load of covers add one of the following
additives to the Perchlorethylene, directly in the drum:
(e1)BC-2 Solugan: prepare a mixture of additive, alcohol,
water in a ratio of 1: 1: 1,
for 1,5 liter of mixture (0.5: 0.5: 0.5)
for each 40 Kg. of covers to be washed.
(e2)Neptune: prepare a mixture of additive, alcohol water
in a ratio of 1: 1: 1, for 1,5 liter of mixture for
every 20Kg. of covers to be washed
NOTE:
The additive introduced in the drum must be the same as
the one used for the pre-washing.

- Mix the Perchlorethylene and the mixture before
introducing the covers, in order to facilitate the
dispersion of the additive in the solvent.
- Load the drum with the covers, making sure that the
adhesive stripes are covered. The quantity of covers must
not be over 80% of the machine maximum operation load.
-Wash for 5 minutes at room temperature.
-Spin without exceeding 500 r.p.m. for 3 minutes.
-Rinse for 5 minutes with pure solvent at room
temperature.
-Dry at a temperature not exceeding 60° C.
(F) Control and repetition of treatment
After drying take the covers out and check them, one by
one, to separate those which still have stains.
These still having stains should be pre-washed once more
following steps (1) b) and c). Following this they should
be machine washed, together with another load of the same
type. The second pre-wash is essential to avoid the stain
becoming even more resistant to removal.
(G) Ironing and final control
The covers which have not been rejected must be ironed
and must subjected to a more accurate control, to select
and return to the cycle those still having stains.
(2) Dry cleaning process
NOTE:
LANTAL (VS3859) wool or mohair fabrics, cleaned in
accordance to the following recommendations can be dry
cleaned up to 20 times without loosing the flame resistant
properties.
(A) All hook (male) Velcro tapes must be covered with their
counterpart (loop tape) to avoid any damages to the fabric
during the dry cleaning process.
(B) The covers should be sprayed with a detergent activator
and left for about 20 minutes before loaded to the dry
cleaning machine. Heavily stained areas should be slightly
brushed with a soft brush.
(C) For the dry cleaning process, please follow the instruc-
tions of the machine supplier.
(D) About 70 to 80% of the covers should become clean during
pre-treatment and dry cleaning-depending on the cleaning
system and kind of staints. The spots still disable can be
cleaned with a steam gun and then dry cleaning again. Be-
fore loaded to the dry cleaning machine, the fabric must
be completely dry to avoid shrinkage.

1. GENERAL
This maintenance program is applicable to "SK6" SICMA AERO SEAT seats
such as describe in this manual.
The operators establish requirements of any Service Bulletins
applicable to these seats. During check, the operators determine
which Service Bulletins, if any, are to be incorporated.
For all operations describe below, refer to the "DIMENSIONS",
"DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION" and "TESTING AND TROUBLE SHOOTING"
chapters of this manual.
Perform checks under a bright light. Use a 5X to 7X power magnifying
glass to detect cracks or damage. The aircraft must be electrically
supplied (115 volts / 400 Hz).
Any part that fails to meet the requirements of check must be
replaced with a serviceable part. If defective part is repairable,
note defect and assign part for repair.
Dents or other damage must not impair finish or functional operation
of any part.
Proper reassembly and adjustment of a seat assembly precludes any
additional checks. However, prior to disassembly or following any
significant repair, perform the following check as applicable.
NOTE :
If repair of the seat assembly is necessary, refer to "REPAIR"
chapter.
If overhaul of the seat assembly or a sub-assembly of the seat is
required, the "CHECK" chapter, paragraph "Entry in service after
storage" and if necessary "REPAIR" chapter have to be used as
applicable workscope.

1. GENERAL
Tolerance of scratches, cuts, nicks, dents, etc., on plastic and
other components is established by the airline's own standards for
aircraft interiors.
Plastic components which have been cracked, must be replaced; they
are considered "not repairable".
Metal components which have been damaged, must be replaced; they are
considered "not repairable".
In case of 16g seats, beams, spreaders and their attachment to each
other are neither user repairable nor user replaceable. if any of
these components are damaged beyond safe use, the user is requested
to contact the seat manufacturer.
In case of 9g seats, beams, spreaders and their attachment to each
other are not repairable.
If any of the components are damaged, the user is instructed to
replace the beam and spreader assembly (see fig.3 items 5, 10, 40, 55
& 70) or contact the seat manufacturer.

A. SCOURING
WARNING :

- To scour paint from metal parts, use SYDOL SID.

- Before application, each part must to be cleaned thoroughly.
- To protect zones not to be painted, use masking tape.

C. VELCRO
In the event that any velcro which is bonded to metal or plastic
has come loose it should be replaced. For best results remove the
entire piece, clean the exposed surface (see chapter «CLEANING»,
§3 PROCEDURE page 4001) and wipe dry with clean cotton cloth.
Install a new piece of velcro according to manufacturers
instructions.

D. PAINT
Repaint each part after inspection according to assembly of
colors of figure 6002.
Some plastic part may be painted after repair. The spot repainting
diameter can not exceed 1 inch.
The coating must be submitted to SICMA for approval before using.

E. CORROSION AND PROTECTION
(1) Corrosion elimination:
Sand lightly the corroded surfaces with an abrasive paper
(grit P 600), until complete disappearing of the corrosion.
If necessary use an abrasive paper (grit P 400) or less.
CAUTION :
BE CAREFUL NOT TO DETERIORATE THE CORRODED PART BY A TOO
IMPORTANT SANDING.
(2) Treated surfaces protection:

Protect the sanded surfaces with a anti-corrosive film.

(2) Rivet Installation:
Before installing new rivets, check the size of the hole to
determine if the original fastener size may be reinstalled or
if an oversize fastener will be required. Use the aircraft
structural repair manual or FAA document EA-AC65-15A, «Air-
frame and Powerplant Mechanics Handbook» to make this deter-
mination and install the new fastener in accordance with these
documents.
(3) Rivet Removal: (secondary structure only)

Should it be necessary to remove any solid rivet, the work is
to be accomplished in accordance with the aircraft structural
repair manual or FAA document EA-AC5-15A, «Airframe and Pow-
erplant Mechanics Handbook».
Should it be necessary to remove any blind rivet, the work
should be accomplished in accordance with the preceding rec-
ommended procedure as shown in figure 6004 (a thru e).

TASK 25-28-48-420-801
1. GENERAL
Before assembly, verify that the CLEANING, CHECKS and the REPAIR of
all component parts have been carried out.
After repair or replacement of any damaged or worn parts, reassemble
the seat assembly following accepted workshop practices, noting the
following detailed instructions. Use a tracking fixture to support
the seat structure.
Refer to the illustrations in the Illustrated Parts List for
location, sequence, quantity and identification of assemblies, sub-
assemblies and parts. These illustrations are also intended as a
guide line for the assembly procedure.
Whenever possible, replace low cost items during reassembly to
prevent possible future maintenance work as a result of failure of
these parts.
The self-locking nuts and pins shall systematically be replaced after
a dismantling operation.

NOTE: In order to avoid errors during assembly, refer to the

marking or numbering of the component parts. Following the
replacement of worn or damaged parts reassemble the seat as
follows:

A. STANDARD LEG EQUIPPED ASSEMBLY (REF. IPL, FIG. 12)
(1) Attach the lower tie bar (15) on the base member (10) with the
front stud (115) and the castellated nut (120).
(2) Place the shafts (70&75) on the front leg (25) and the base
member (10) then attach the absorber assy (-30) with the the
nut (35).
(3) Attach the front leg (25) and the aft leg (20) on the base
member (10) with the screws (55&60), the washers (85&90) and
secure with the nuts (100&105).

(4) Attach the fitting track assy (40) and the stop (45) on the
base member (10)with the screw (65), the washer (95) and
secure by the nut (105).

spacers (145), the screws (140) and secure with the tension
adjusters (150).

(1) Position the backrest link equipped (5) on the hub backrest,
attach with the washers (10,15&20) and secure by the nut (25).
(2) Place the backrest on the spreader bases then pull it aft.

(1) Position the lock shaft (30) and the washer (35) on the

backrest link equipped (5) with the washers (60), the nuts (65)
and the clip (55).
(3) Position the recline control inside the armrest structure.
(4) Attach the control assy (-65) with the button assy (120), the
washers (110&115), the guide (105) and secure by the spring
(100) to the armrest structure.
(5) Connect the cable (85) to the hydrolock (50) with the screw
(125) and the circlip (130).
NOTE: Before installing hydrolock ensure that it is in the
fully extended position.

G. FOODTRAY ASSY ASSEMBLY (REF. IPL, FIG. 13 AND 9)
(1) Ref. IPL, Fig.13: Attach the tray (5) and their fittings
(10&10A) with the shafts (20) and the screws (25) on the table
arms (40&40A). Check for free movement of all moving parts;
adjust as necessary with the screws (15).
(2) Attach the table arms (40&40A) through the tube assy (30)
with the screws (50).
(3) Place the backrest in the breakover position then position the
back foodtray.
(4) Ref. IPL, Fig.9: Fit the table latch cover (120) with the
table latch assy (125) into the backrest structure (10) by
press on the clip (135).

(1) Position the drives (65), attach with the screws (70) on the
bracket (60).

(90).
(3) Place the bearing (90) in the hinge bracket assy (-55), attach
with the shaft (75) and the screw (80).
(4) Place the leafs (45) on the half trays (10&35), attach with
the shafts (50).
(5) Place the arm table assy (-5) inside the armrest assy, attach
with the shaft (115) and the washers (110).

NOTE 1 : Use new low cost items such as pins, screws, washers,
nut and tie-wraps wherever possible during the reassembly pro-
cedures to prevent future repair requirements due to failure
of these parts.

with some adhesive double side tape.

This kit is composed of:

- A loosening handle : P/N 00-6021
NOTE 1 : Each item can be ordered separately.
NOTE 2 : See figure 1 page 3 for torque value of torquage.
CAUTION :
To obtain the requested torque value a coefficient reducer 0,8
has to be applied.

Set the torque at 8 Nm.

1. STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
Subtask 25-28-48-550-001
A. GENERAL
(1) The seat is essentially corrosion resistant and special
preservation is not required.
CAUTION : AVOID PLACING THE SEAT LEGS ON CONCRETE GROUND OR

ON STEEL SURFACES WHICH ARE NOT PROTECTED AGAINST CORROSION.
Subtask 25-28-48-550-002
B. PROCEDURES
(1) For prolonged storage, wrap seat assembly in waterproof
wrapping paper plastic cover.
(2) Identify seat assembly part number and date of overhaul on a
tag or in a convenient location on the seat assembly wrapper.
(3) Store seat assembly in cool, dry place away from sunlight and
heat sources.
(4) After a year of storage, check all the seat systems as
described in "CHECKS" and "TESTING AND TROUBLE SHOOTING"
sections of this manual.
