    ANNOUNCEMENT

    A Three Day National Seminar on


    INDIA AS A LINGUISTIC AREA – A REVISIT
    5th - 7th February 2025

    Venue: Rabindra Bhavan Seminar Hall, V. I. Subramoniam Memorial ISDL Complex,
    St. Xavier‟s College P.O. Thiruvananthapuram – 695586

    International School of Dravidian Linguistics is organizing a Three Day


    National Seminar on “India as a Linguistic Area – A Revisit” during 5-7
    February 2025 in collaboration with Central Institute of Indian Languages.
    Emeneau (1956) first recognized „India as a Linguistic Area‟. Some
    attempts have been carried out to map Linguistic and Cultural Traits, since then.
    For instance, Linguistic Traits such as the existence of Retroflex sounds, SOV
    Word Order, absence of Prepositions, Morphological Reduplications
    (Expressives), Echo Formations, etc., have been discussed. Process of
    acculturation has also been equally marked. Yet we have not given due attention
    to map a compendium of the socio-cultural and linguistic processes of
    Indianness.
    Keeping the antiquity of coexistence in mind, and understanding the
    outcomes of the policies adopted since independence for maintaining the unity
    in diversity, the seminar proposes to deeply discuss various trajectories of these
    Linguistic and Cultural processes.
    Linguistic and Cultural Achievements as part of the nation state in
    strengthening fraternity, integration and shaping the Indianness is intended to
    examine through this seminar. Grey areas, if any disrupts this process of unity,
    may also get explored.
    Call for Abstract:
    Participants are requested to submit abstracts on the following themes:

    1. Indian Multilingualism and its Uniqueness.


    2. Linguistic contact and its Convergence.
    3. Areal Linguistic features in Phonology, Morphology, Word Order.
    4. Typology of Indian Languages.
    5. Reduplication and Eco Word Formation.
    6. Semantic Universals in Indian Languages.
    7. Language Policies of India aiming National Integration.
    8. Cultural Syncreticism.
    9. Pan Indianness in Literature.
    10. Pan Indianness in Performing Arts, Music, etc.
    11. Pan Indianness in Ethics.
    12. Spiritual Unity and Diversity of India.
    13. Genetic Archaeology.
    14. Archeo- Linguistics.
    15. Indian Festivals and their Underlying Similarities.
    16. Pan Indian traits in Folklore, Proverbs, Riddles, Idioms, etc.
     The abstract should be limited to 250 words excluding references typed in
    MS word, Times New Roman, 11pt font, single spacing with one-inch
    margins on all sides. The abstracts must include the name of the author,
    affiliation, designation, etc.
     The abstract will be selected after review. The interested participants must
    send an email about their interest to participate in the seminar. The abstracts
    and email should be sent to the following email id: isdlseminar@gmail.com
     Selected abstracts will be duly acknowledged.
