Abstract

Creating an eco-friendly, and organic air freshener face a significant gap. Research has

shown that the non-organic air freshener made with different chemical may be effective, but

because they contain chemicals the results may also cause harmful and other health related effect

thus people tend to use this product in different settings such as homes, schools, and office. The

researchers utilized different data gathering instruments, such as observation, experimentation,

and questionnaires, to collect data from 30 Senior High School students. Statistical tools like

ranking and weighted mean were used to analyze the data. The study aimed to identify the

components of lemon peel that make it an excellent air freshener, compare the duration and

effectiveness of lemon air fresheners and commercial air fresheners, and explore the significance

difference between natural and commercially available air fresheners.

The study findings revealed that Limonene, Citral, Linalool, α-Pinene, β-Pinene,

Carvone, Geraniol, and Citronellal are the most effective components of lemon peel for air

freshening. Lemon air fresheners made from natural ingredients such as lemon peel and juice had

a more authentic and refreshing scent than commercial air fresheners. Moreover, lemon air

fresheners were found to be safer and healthier for people and the environment. Although

commercial air fresheners with lemon scent provided a stronger and longer-lasting scent, they

can emit harmful chemicals that can contribute to indoor air pollution and negatively affect

human health.

Based on the study findings, the researchers concluded that lemon air fresheners are a

safe and effective alternative to commercial air fresheners. They suggested conducting further

research to investigate the potential health benefits of lemon air fresheners and their

effectiveness in different settings.

 Introduction

Lemon, with its bright and zesty aroma, has long been utilized as a natural deodorizer and

air freshener. The use of lemon in household cleaning products and air fresheners has been

gaining popularity in recent years, as consumers become more aware of the harmful effects of

synthetic fragrances and chemicals on their health and the environment. In this study, we explore

the potential of utilizing natural odor eliminating air freshener and deodorizer made from lemon

peeling extracts and juice.

Lemon peels are often discarded as waste, but they contain natural compounds that have

been found to be effective in eliminating unpleasant odors and freshening the air. Previous

studies have shown that lemon peeling extracts and juice contain compounds such as limonene,

citral, and linalool that have potent antimicrobial properties and are effective in eliminating

unpleasant odors. These components are responsible for the unique properties of the substance,

and their concentration can vary depending on the source and method of extraction. (Ming, L., &

Le, T. (2021))

By utilizing lemon peeling extracts and juice as a natural air freshener and deodorizer, we

can provide an eco-friendly and sustainable alternative to commercially available products that

often contain synthetic chemicals and fragrances. The use of natural ingredients can also provide

additional benefits such as antibacterial and antifungal properties. Furthermore, lemon peels are a

readily available and inexpensive source of natural ingredients, making this approach an

affordable option for households and businesses looking for a safer and healthier alternative to

traditional air fresheners. In this study, we aim to investigate the effectiveness and feasibility of

using lemon peeling extracts and juice as a natural odor eliminating air freshener and deodorizer.
