To provide students with further knowledge and skills of Calculus and introduce them to
the set of complex numbers

16. Intended Learning Outcomes


On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
a) differentiate transcendental functions,
b) integrate transcendental functions,
c) sketch curves in polar coordinates,
d) evaluate areas, volumes, surface areas and arc lengths using parametric equations,
e) evaluate limit of sequences,
f) prove convergence of series using various tests,
g) perform algebraic operations on complex numbers.

17. Indicative Content

a) Transcendental functions: logarithm functions, trigonometric functions, hyperbolic


functions.
b) Parametric equations and polar coordinates including applications to conic sections..
c) Indeterminate forms. Improper integrals.

d) Infinite sequences and series: Taylor polynomials and approximation, bisection
method as a sequence.
e) Introduction to Complex numbers.

Continuous Assessment 40%; Final Examination 60%.
