Course Objective: To introduce the concepts of digital logic, functioning design of digital devices, and
learn about logic families, electronic memory and related devices.

CO1 Demonstrate knowledge on Switching algebra and their realization using logic gates.

CO3 Understand the various circuits of combinational logic and their implementation

CO4 Understanding the memory concepts and applying for logical function implementation

Introduction to Number Systems and Codes, Boolean Algebra, Venn diagram,
switching function and minimization, switching functions with don’t care
UNIT 1 terms and applications (Karnaugh’s Map Method & Tabulation Techniques), 8
Designing of combinational circuits, Encoders, code converters, Decoder,
Multiplexers and Demultiplexer and their applications, comparators.

Introduction Logic Gates, Logic Families TTL, Tristate Logic, ECL, CMOS
UNIT 2 and T2L Logic, Logic parameters, Bistable, Monostable, Astable and Schmitt 8
trigger circuit.

Gated memories, M/S flip flips, Shift Registers Serial & Parallel Counters,
UNIT 3 Ring counters, Up Down counters. Designing of combinational circuits like 8
code converter, address decoders, comparators, etc.

Introduction to semiconductor memories: ROM, PROM, EPROM, STATIC &


DYNAMIC RAM. Introduction to Encoders, Decoders, Multiplexer,
UNIT 4 Demultiplexer, Designing Combinational circuits with multiplexers and other 12
digital logic blocks, PROM. Concept of Digital to Analog Conversion Ladder
Networks, and Concept of Analog to Digital conversion: Dual Slope method.
