INTRODUCTION

H- Welcome to our presentation about the United Kingdom. We´re going to speak about the
country in different topics: Basic information; Location ,population and language, About the
country : history, culture, flag, shield, watchword; Things from the country : buildings, sport,
music, famous people, universities, fauna…

TOPIC 1 LOCATION

J-The U.K is located in Europe, concretely in the northwest. The U.K is formed by England,
Wales, Scotland and North Ireland

TOPIC 1 POPULATION

M- The United Kingdom is a very populated country that has 67.081.000 habitants

Specifically there are:

In Wales: 3,136 habitants

In Scottland: 5,454 habitants

In North Ireland: 1,885 habitants

In England: 55,98 millions

TOPIC 1 LANGUAGE

H- There are a lot of difference between the American English, the British English and
the Australian English, like the pronunciation and some words change. Here are some
different between the American and the British:

In America this is called sprinkles and in the UK they call this hundreds and thousands

In America they call this an angry person and in the UK they call this a mad person

In America they call this Fall and in the UK they call it Autumn

In America this is called French Fries and in the UK this is called chips

In America this is called cookie and in the UK this is called biscuits

In America this is called vacation and in the UK this is called holidays

In America this is called apartment and in the UK this is called flat

In America this is called sneakers and in the UK this is called trainers

In America this is called elevator and in the UK this is called lift

And there is some changes in the orthography too:


In America they write this color and in the UK they write it colour

In America they write this gray and in the UK they write it grey

TOPIC 2 HISTORY

h- A recently new is that the queen Elizabeth is dead, there are a lot of theories that she is an
alien, she is not dead, and so on (etc)

Union of Ireland

North Ireland belongs to U.K since 1 of January of 1801

THE 19 CENTURY

1800 the best year for U.K.

During this period, a lot of historical events ocurred. That made England a modern and a
powerfull country

TOPIC 2 CULTURE

h-Christmas:

Christmas start the 25 of December and is the principal day, but ends the 1st of January.

Are diferent traditions:

1.The discourse of the Queen: This tradition start in 1932; the duration is 10 minutes and it is
at 3 p.m.

2. Christmas ads: The U.K. is obsessed with christmas ads. In this ads battle diferent brands
like: John Lewis, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Marks & Spencers do an ad that they think the people like

3. Christmas Eve: People are reunited with their classmates, ex boyfriends or girldfriens and
know about their lifes. You can judge everyone without feeling guilty because you know the
rest is doing it to you. Everyone tends to drink much more than they should. Desperate to
show how much money they make now.

4.Plays: They do plays, normaly for the children, They are a mixture of comedy, stories like
Peter Pan, Aladdin and so on.
j-Halloween: Is the 31 of October; Halloween is the day of spirits of dead people. Some ones do
parties and they dress up as esqueletons, ghosts or other scary figures.

They eat vanilla and chocolate eyes, witches' fingers, and all kinds of cookies and foods that
look bloody and scary.

Thousands of people walk the streets and go from house to house saying trick or treat

m-Food:

In the U.K. people eat a lot of junk food. This are some examples.

1.English breakfast: Has fried egg, bacon, beans, mushrooms, tomato, potatoes, English
sausages called "British Bangers" and slices of toast.

2. Fish and chips: Fish battered and fried in oil with potatoes.

3. Apple pie: Has sweet Apple and usually eaten with a crème anglaise.

TOPIC 2 FLAG, SHIELD AND WHATSWORD

J :Flag: The flag of the United Kingdom is formed by the union of the flags of the different
cities. They call this flag: the “union flag”, but they use too the “union Jack” or only “Jack”.

J:Shield: It is called the Royal Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom and it´s divided in three
parts.

H:Watchword: The watchword is “Dieu et mon droit” that means: God and my right.

TOPIC 3 BUILDINS

M:The important buildings of the U.K. are:

1. Big Ben: It is on the corner of the Palace of Westminster. Was built in 1859.
2. London eye
3. Buckingham Palace…

TOPIC 3 SPORTS
J:In the U.K. the sport has been a significant activity at the social and economic level.
The most famous sports are:
1.Rugby
2. Cricket
3.Golf
4.Tenis
TOPIC 3 MUSIC
M:The pop music is very popular in the U.K., diferent types os rock too.

Pop: This type of music use: Drums, wind instruments, guitars and so on.
Rock: This type of mucic use : guitar, drums, piano. A popular group is the Rolling Stones.

TOPIC 3 FAMOUS PEOPLE

H:Millie Bobby Brown: Began her acting career at an early age when she moved to Orlando,
Florida in 2011. She rose to fame for her portrayal of the role of Eleven in the Netflix series
Stranger Things.

Thomas Stanley Holland: Known as Tom Holland; is an actor, voice actor and dancer. He
started his career in the theater in 2008 playing the title character in the musical Billy Elliot.

TOPIC 3 UNIVERSITIE

M:One of the most famous universitie of the U.K. is Oxford.

Oxford: Teaching already existed at Oxford in 1096, is the oldest universitie.

TOPIC 3 FAUNA

J:Some typical animals in the U.K. are squirrels, badgers, kestrel and deer.

A small number of large mammals such as the brown bear and red deer survive in England
because There have been drastic changes.
