Subject Name: Server Operating System-II

Objectives:

Students will have ability to configure & manage various types of servers like nano server, Web
server, NLB. Students also able to configure server level configuration. Students will have good
understanding of ADDS.

Contents:

1. Introduction of Nano Server & NLB

Introduction of Microsoft Server, Basic configuration of Server, Introduction of Nano server, Create
Nano server VM using command, Nano server configuration, Nano Server remote access from
another machine, Installation of Web Server, Introduction of NLB, Understand Network Load
balancing configuration.

2. Configuring and Managing ADDS

Overview of ADDS, Overview of ADDS domain controllers, deploying a domain controller, managing
user accounts, Configuration of user account, log on to & Log on hours configuration, managing
groups in ADDS, managing computer objects in ADDS, Using Windows PowerShell for AD DS
administration, Implementing and managing OUS, Delegation of OUS.

3. Managing Group Policy in ADDS

Introducing Group Policy, Implementing and administering GPOs, Group Policy scope and Group
Policy processing, troubleshooting the application of GPOs, implementing administrative templates,
Configuring Folder Redirection, software installation, and scripts, Log on Message.

4. Configuring VPN & File servers:

Planning VPNs, Implementing VPNs, Configuring Radius Server, Configuring LAN Routing,
Implementing Distributed File System (DFS) for branch offices, Introduction to file server, Basic of
FSRM, FSRM configuration, Hard & soft Quota.

Unit 1: Network Fundamentals and Operations
Network Architecture
Basic network concepts including topologies, components, and devices. The OSI and TCP/IP
models, covering layer functions and interactions. Network devices such as routers,
switches, firewalls, and access points. IPv4 and IPv6 addressing, including structure,
notation, and conversion.
Network Operations
Network protocols and services including DNS, DHCP, and NAT. CLI commands for
configuration and management of routers and switches. Basic network configuration,
including setup and maintenance. Techniques for performance monitoring and
troubleshooting.
Network Security
Basic security concepts including firewalls, ACLs, and security policies. Network attacks and
strategies for mitigation. Best practices for securing network infrastructure.

Unit 2: Network Access and Switching


Ethernet Basics
Ethernet standards and technologies, including IEEE 802.3. Media types and cabling such as
twisted pair and Fiber optics. VLANs, including configuration, management, and benefits.
Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) operations and troubleshooting.
Wireless Technologies
Wireless standards including 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax. Configuration and security measures for
wireless networks. Troubleshooting wireless connectivity issues.
Switching Concepts
Switch operation including frame forwarding and switching techniques. VLAN configuration
including setup and management. Inter-VLAN routing methods and configuration.

Unit 3: IP Connectivity and Routing


IP Addressing
IPv4 addressing including subnetting and CIDR notation. IPv6 addressing including structure,
subnetting, and configuration. Addressing schemes including assignment and management.
Routing Protocols
Static and default routing including configuration and use cases. Dynamic routing protocols
including RIPv2, OSPFv2, and EIGRP. Inter-domain routing protocols including operation and
configuration.
Routing Concepts
Routing table construction and maintenance. Route summarization techniques and benefits.
Route redistribution, including purpose and methods.

Unit 4: IP Services and Security


DHCP
DHCP operation including configuration and troubleshooting for IPv4 and IPv6. DHCP relay,
including setup and use cases.
DNS
DNS operation including configuration and troubleshooting. DNS resolution processes and
issues.
Network Time Protocol (NTP)
NTP operation including configuration and synchronization.
Network Security
Basic security concepts including firewalls, VPNs, and IDS/IPS. Authentication and
authorization methods. Security best practices including network design and
implementation. Threats and vulnerabilities such as DDoS and malware, and mitigation
strategies.

Unit 5: Automation, Monitoring, and Design


Network Automation
Basics of network automation including tools and concepts. Introduction to network
programming and scripting, such as Python.
APIs and Configuration Management
Understanding APIs, including purpose and functionality. Configuration management tools
such as Ansible and Puppet.
Network Monitoring and Analytics
Network monitoring tools including usage and configuration. Network analytics, including
techniques and performance optimization.
Network Design
Design principles for borderless networks, data centres, and collaboration. Techniques and
benefits of network segmentation and isolation.
