“Don’t Look Up” short review

"Don't Look Up" is a satirical science fiction movie directed by Adam McKay. The story presents two
astronomers, Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence), who
discover a comet on a collision course with Earth. They struggle to convince the world of the imminent
disaster, facing skepticism and political indifference.

What I Liked:

The movie's satire is sharp and relevant, it offers a biting commentary on contemporary issues like
climate change, media sensationalism, and political apathy. The performances by DiCaprio and
Lawrence are outstanding, bringing both humor and urgency to their roles. The selected cast, including
Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, and Cate Blanchett, adds depth and variety to the film. The mix of comedy and
drama effectively highlights the absurdity of the characters' situations, making the movie both
entertaining and provoking.

What I Didn't Like:

The film can be controversial with its message, sometimes sacrificing subtlety for obvious criticism.
Some of the comedic elements feel forced, detracting from the overall impact. Additionally, the pacing is
uneven, with certain scenes dragging on longer than necessary. The ending, while powerful, might not
satisfy all viewers due to its bleakness.

Overall Overview:

"Don't Look Up" is a clever and timely film that uses humor to address serious global issues. Its strengths
lie in its sharp satire and strong performances, making it an engaging watch. However, the film's
controversial approach and uneven pacing may not appeal to everyone. Despite these flaws, it is a
provocative movie that encourages viewers to reflect on the state of the world and our response to
crises.
