But before anything else,do you have an idea what social thinker is?
Well, A social thinker is someone who analyzes and reflects on societal issues, structures, and
behaviors. They explore topics like culture, politics, economics, and social justice, often
contributing theories or ideas that influence how we understand social dynamics. Social thinkers
can be philosophers, sociologists, activists, or writers, and their work helps to shape public
discourse and policy.
The Philippines is a nation brimming with vibrant culture, history, and
resilience, largely shaped by its social thinkers. These influential figures have
not only crafted our identity but have also challenged societal norms and
inspired movements that echo through time. As we delve into the lives of
these remarkable individuals, let’s explore how their ideas can stimulate
critical thinking and inspire today’s youth.
Let’s begin with the first Filipino thinker..none other than our National Hero:DR.PROTACIO
RIZAL MERCADO Y REALONDA
1. DR. José Rizal is known as The Visionary Reformer
José Rizal’s influence extends beyond literature; he embodies the spirit of enlightenment. His
novels, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, serve as mirrors reflecting societal issues, urging
readers to question authority and fight for their rights. Rizal believed in education as a powerful
tool for change, famously stating, “The youth is the hope of our future.”
THIS IS THE Stimulating Fact ABOUT HIM; Rizal was not just a writer; he was also a
scientist and artist. His diverse interests remind us that knowledge knows no bounds,
encouraging today’s youth to explore multiple disciplines and pursue their passions without
limitations.
2. NEXT IS Andres Bonifacio: The Revolutionary Spirit
Andres Bonifacio’s commitment to independence and social justice sparked the flames of
revolution. As the founder of the Katipunan, his writings emphasize the importance of collective
action and sacrifice. Bonifacio’s revolutionary spirit is a call to action for youth to stand against

What is his Influential Though?t: Bonifacio declared, “Ang di marunong lumingon sa
pinanggalingan ay hindi makararating sa paroroonan.” (He who does not know how to look back
at where he came from will never get to his destination.) This encourages young people to

3.Third,we have Apolinario Mabini: The Power of the Mind
Apolinario Mabini, despite his physical limitations, became a key political thinker during the
Philippine Revolution. His writings laid the groundwork for Philippine governance and

Inspiring Insight: Mabini famously said, “No one is incapable of contributing to the greater

4. Then,Maria Ressa who Champions Truth and Freedom

and democracy. As co-founder of Rappler, she battles misinformation and advocates for the
rights of citizens to access truthful information. Ressa’s story emphasizes the role of media as a

5 Last but definitely not the least. Walden Bello: The Advocate for Global
