Summary: The poem ‘’The Sea’’ by James Reeves presents to the readers a whole new
different and imaginative view of the sea. We find certain similarities of the sea with a
hungry dog. The wildness of the sea is well compared to a hungry dog chewing bones.
Reeves presents the sea both as playful and calm just like a dog who after having a playful
day sleeps peacefully when it tires out. Similarly the sea becomes calm in May and June
creating a calm, peaceful tone. Each stanza shows a different aspect of one of nature’s
wonders, the sea.
