% error = abs((actual – expected)/expected)

= abs((296.4 – 343)/343)

= 28%

Analysis

1. The distance between antinodes is λ/2 because they correspond to every half-
wavelength in the standing wave pattern.
2. As proven in the chart, the average distance between antinodes is 15.98cm and the
wavelength of sound is 31.8cm, which is roughly double the average distance
between antinodes.
3. Using v = f λ, we can plug in the numbers that we got from the experiment to find the
speed of sound. V = 800 * 0.318, which is equal 254.4m/s.
4. Our average speed of sound was 296.4m/s which has a 28% error to the actual
speed of sound.
