Empowering Educators: 3-Day In-Service Training Highlights
In a testament to the continuous commitment to excellence in teaching,
Patnanungan National High School (PNHS) held a transformative 3-day In-Service Training (INSET) for teachers with the theme “Beyond Boundaries: Transformative Strategies for the Modern Classroom” on November 25-27, 2024 at PNHS Serbisyong Suarez Computer Room. Packed with enriching discussions, dynamic presentations, and collaborative activities, the event aimed to equip educators with innovative strategies and essential tools to enhance teaching effectiveness and student learning. Day 1: Kicking Off with Higher-Order Thinking Skills The program began promptly at 7:00 a.m. with participant registration, followed by an inspiring opening program. The morning sessions featured three esteemed speakers who captivated the audience with their expertise on Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) Professional Learning Package. Ms. Princessarah A. Sollestre, Ms. Alyzza G. Palicpic, and Ms. Irish S. Sigue shared insights into fostering critical thinking and problem-solving in classrooms as well as crafting SOLO model questions. The participants were given ample time to finish the assigned group activity and craft a super SOLO question. The afternoon session delved deeper into pedagogy. Dr. Dyra Marie J. Borreo tackled Pedagogical Approaches: Theories and Frameworks, providing a comprehensive overview of modern educational paradigms. The teachers show their talent on a role play while highlighting different scenarios of teachers applying the pedagogical approaches learned throughout the session. At 3:00 p.m., Dr. Clarinda B. Romano took the stage with Pedagogical Approaches in Practice: Techniques and Application, emphasizing actionable strategies for classroom use. Teachers were able to share best practices and improvements based on experiences in each teaching career. Day 2: Enhancing Teaching through Technology and Innovation Day 2 started with Mr. Randy Boy C. Magno’s engaging session on Empowering Curriculum Delivery through ICT Integration, inspiring educators to embrace digital tools in the classroom. The teachers were able to craft and present gamified teaching material from the shared apps given by the speaker. This was followed by Dr. Arvin V. Casilao’s presentation, Beyond the Basics: Innovative Approaches and Strategies to Elevate Teaching Effectiveness, which highlighted creative methods for engaging students. Teachers were given the chance to ask questions and reflect on how students’ questions during and after each class session are essential for teacher reflection to improve teaching strategies and approaches. In the afternoon, Dr. Kareen C. Avecilla led a lively discussion on Mastering the Art of Classroom Harmony: Strategies for Effective Classroom Management, offering practical solutions for fostering a positive classroom environment. The participants share their experiences in the classroom, scenes they encountered and action they took to address the problem. The teachers also take a quiz to identify their classroom management profile. The day concluded with an essential session by the Finance Department, which provided Latest Updates on DepEd Financial Policies and Related Financial Matters. Ms. Manilyn R. Sacdalan, discussed the following: 1) documentary requirements for common government transaction-COA circular No. 12, 2) requirements to claim the first salary of an employed teaching personnel, 3) salary differentials due to promotion/ and or STEP increment, 4) maternity leave, 5) loyalty cash award incentive, and 6) training expenses for INSET/ GAD training. Day 3: Reflecting and Looking Ahead The final day began with Dr. Sheryl Jean N. Dig, the Officer-in-Charge of Paaralang Sekundarya ng Patnanungan Norte as she provided a comprehensive discussion on Republic Act 11650 also known as “Instituting a Policy of Inclusion and Service for Learners with Disabilities in Support to Inclusive Act”, an essential legislative framework ensuring inclusive education for learners with disabilities. Her session highlighted the law’s provisions and implications for educators, emphasizing the role of schools in fostering equity and accessibility in education. An inspiring Principal’s Time led by Sir Jesson R. Parale, Principal III, was a highlight of the 3-day INSET, energizing teachers with valuable updates and practical reminders. Sir Parale focused on aligning school operations with recent DepEd policies, ensuring an inclusive and cohesive approach to education. A significant part of the discussion revolved around DepEd Order No. 5, s. 2024, which highlights the framework of School-Based Management (SBM). Sir Parale detailed its core components, including Leadership, Governance and Accountability, Curriculum and Teaching, Human Resource Management, and Financial Management. He encouraged educators to strive for higher Degrees of SBM Level of Manifestation, underscoring the importance of collaboration and accountability in achieving excellence. Inclusivity was another key focus of the session, with Sir Parale emphasizing adherence to the observance of VAWC (Violence Against Women and Children) laws. He highlighted the school’s role in fostering gender-sensitive and inclusive practices, ensuring the protection of learners' rights. This reflects the school’s commitment to providing a safe and equitable environment for all. Administrative matters were also addressed to streamline school operations. Teachers were reminded to submit exam results, including Mean Percentage Scores (MPS) and identified least mastered competencies, to the testing coordinator promptly for intervention planning. A strong reminder was given about avoiding habitual tardiness and ensuring that a Form 6 (Leave Form) is submitted for any absences. Sir Parale emphasized the need for professionalism, time management, and accountability in day-to-day responsibilities. In his closing remarks, Sir Parale inspired the audience with a powerful message: “The biggest room in the world is the room for improvement. Expect change, move forward, don’t be stagnant. Always grow.” These words served as a call to action, reminding teachers to embrace continuous learning and adapt to the evolving educational landscape. With Sir Parale’s guidance, the school community is well-prepared to meet challenges, implement new policies, and uphold its mission to deliver quality education for all learners. As a fitting conclusion to our 3-day In-Service Training (INSET), a Demonstration Teaching Session was conducted, showcasing the application of the concepts and strategies discussed throughout the program. Spearheaded by esteemed educators Dr. Clarinda B. Romano, Dr. Kareen C. Avecilla, Dr. Dyra Marie J. Borreo, and Dr. Arvin V. Casilao, the session was a dynamic blend of theory and practice, highlighting how innovative methodologies and frameworks can transform classroom instruction. Applying Pedagogical Theories in Practice Dr. Clarinda B. Romano demonstrated Pedagogical Approaches in Practice: Techniques and Application, skillfully integrating advanced teaching methods into a real classroom setting. Her session emphasized the seamless transition from theoretical principles to practical techniques, leaving participants inspired by the ease of implementation. A Culmination of Learning and Collaboration This demonstration teaching session was a testament to the transformative power of professional development. By applying the topics discussed during the INSET— ranging from pedagogical theories to innovative strategies and ICT integration—the speakers showcased how teachers can translate knowledge into impactful classroom practices. Looking Ahead The demonstration teaching not only solidified participants' understanding of the topics but also provided them with practical examples they could adapt to their own classrooms. This culminating activity affirmed the importance of professional learning in driving educational excellence, ensuring that every lesson is an opportunity for meaningful and transformative learning. With the skills gained during the INSET, our teachers are now better equipped to inspire and empower their students, creating brighter future for the generations to come. The training concluded with a post-conference session, followed by an awarding ceremony and a heartfelt closing program, celebrating the collective achievements of the participants. The 3-day INSET was a resounding success, leaving teachers inspired, informed, and ready to apply new knowledge in their classrooms. This event not only fostered professional growth but also strengthened the bonds among educators, reinforcing the shared mission of shaping a brighter future for students.
