    1) What is the difference between technique and method of translation?

    The technique is different from the method. According to Molina and Albir, the translation
    method justifies the entire translated text, while the translation technique focuses more on
    analyzing the components. Method of translation refers to the overall approach a translator
    adopts for an entire text. The translation method is a way of carrying out translator's objective.
    Methods guide the translator's philosophy throughout the process.
    For example, using literal translation (word-for-word) or free translation (conveying the meaning
    without adhering to word-for-word translation).
    Technique of translation refers to specific procedures applied to solve particular translation
    challenges at the word, phrase or sentence level. To conclude based on Newmark's opinion in
    Ordudary (2007), translation method covers to whole texts, while translation procedures or
    techniques are used for sentences and smaller units of language.
    For example, using calque (creating a new expression in the target language based on the source
    language) or modulation (changing the perspective).

    2) When do translators need techniques of translation?

    Translators use techniques when dealing with specific translation problems or nuances, such as
    translating idiomatic expressions, cultural references, or technical terms, resolving differences in
    grammar, syntax, or structure between the source and target languages, maintaining tone, style,
    or connotations while adapting the text.
    Example: Source (English): "Break a leg!"
    Direct Myanmar translation: "ခြေကိုကျိုးပါ။" (Not meaningful).
    Translation Technique (Adaptation): Translate it to "ကံကောင်းပါစေ။" (May
    you have good luck).
    Example: Source (Myanmar): "ပုလဲဆန်"
    Literal translation: "Pearl Rice"
    Translation Technique: Use "High-Quality Rice" to match the cultural meaning.

    3) When do they use translation methods?
    Translators apply methods at the start of a project and throughout the translation to set the tone
    and direction, such as deciding how closely the translation will adhere to the source text, aligning
    the translation with the target audience's preferences (formal vs. informal, direct vs.
    interpretative), handling literary texts, legal documents, or creative works where consistency in
    approach is critical.
    Example:
    Literal Method - Source (English): "The cat is on the mat."
    Translation (Myanmar): "ကြောင်တစ်ကောင် စက်ကွက်ပေါ်
    မှာရှိတယ်။"
    Free Method - Source (English): "The meeting went smoothly."
    Translation (Myanmar): "အစည်းအဝေး အဆင်ပြေပြေဖြစ်သွား
    တယ်။"
    Example - Source (Myanmar): "သူ့စကားကို ချန်ထားပြီး သွားကြ
    တော့။"
    Literal Method: "Leave his words and go." (Awkward in English).
    Free Method: "Ignore what he said and move on."
