BELIEFS IN EDUCATION AND ITS IMPLICATIONS
TO CURRICULUM PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT
MODULE OVERVIEW

This module explores the foundational principles, objectives, and interdisciplinary

approaches of Home Economics as a field of study and professional practice. It
emphasizes the importance of equipping learners with essential life skills, resource
management techniques, and the ability to adapt to evolving societal needs. The module
delves into themes such as sustainability, ethical living, family-centric development, and
lifelong learning, showcasing the relevance of Home Economics in addressing
contemporary challenges like environmental conservation, social justice, and financial
literacy. Focusing on the key areas such as, holistic development of individuals (physical,
emotional, social, and intellectual growth), responsible management of resources with an
emphasis on sustainability and environmental stewardship, empowerment through
decision-making and financial literacy, interdisciplinary applications integrating nutrition,
education, sociology, and economics, promotion of family well-being and community ties,
development of entrepreneurial and livelihood skills to address global economic crises,
and practical hands-on learning and critical thinking for real-world challenges.

MODULE LEARNING OUTCOMES

 Describe the key principles of Home Economics, including sustainability, ethical

living, and family-centric development, with real-world examples.
 Explain how Home Economics integrates disciplines such as nutrition, sociology,
and economics, using specific case studies or scenarios.

demonstrating efficient resource use and creative problem-solving.
 Demonstrate a positive and empathetic approach during collaborative group
activities, highlighting the importance of teamwork and mutual respect.
 Apply practical Home Economics skills to create a functional product, such as a
preserved food item or handmade craft, and present it to peers.

 Home economics emphasizes the development of the whole person, fostering

physical, emotional, social, and intellectual growth. This development includes
acquiring life skills that promote self-sufficiency and adaptability.

o Home Economics focuses on helping people grow in all areas of life—

physically, emotionally, socially, and mentally. It teaches practical skills
that help individuals take care of themselves and others, like cooking,
cleaning, and managing money, as well as how to stay healthy and
handle stress. The goal is to help people become well-rounded and
capable of managing everyday challenges. By learning these skills,
people can live more independently, adapt to changes in their lives, and
make better decisions for themselves and their families. Ultimately, Home
Economics aims to give individuals the tools they need to live a
successful and fulfilling life.

 One core philosophy is the responsible management of resources, focusing on

sustainability, conservation, and environmental stewardship, as applied to food,
shelter, and clothing.

o One key idea in Home Economics is learning how to manage resources

responsibly. This means using things like food, clothing, and shelter in a
way that helps protect the environment for the future. It’s about being
smart with what we have, making sure not to waste food or materials, and
finding ways to conserve energy and resources. The goal is to make
choices that are good for the planet, while still meeting our needs for
basic things like food, clothing, and a place to live. By doing this, we help
ensure that future generations can enjoy the same resources we have
today.

 Home economics promotes empowerment by giving individuals the skills and

knowledge they need to make informed decisions and take control of their lives,
particularly in managing household tasks and financial literacy.

o Home Economics helps people take charge of their lives by teaching them
important skills and knowledge. It gives them the tools they need to make
smart choices, especially when it comes to managing tasks around the
house and handling money. By learning these skills, people become more
confident and capable in taking care of their homes, budgeting effectively,
and making decisions that improve their everyday lives. Essentially, Home
Economics empowers individuals to be more independent and in control
of their personal and family responsibilities.

 The field adopts an interdisciplinary approach that integrates knowledge from

various fields like nutrition, education, sociology, and economics. This allows
learners to apply diverse concepts to real-world situations.

o Home Economics takes a broad approach by combining knowledge from

different areas like nutrition, education, sociology, and economics. This
means that students can learn how to use ideas from each of these fields
to solve real-life problems. For example, they might apply what they know
about nutrition to plan healthy meals, use ideas from sociology to
understand family dynamics, or use economic principles to manage a
household budget. By bringing together different types of knowledge,

Home Economics helps students see the bigger picture and better
understand how everything in life is connected.

 Home economics centers on the family as the primary social unit, aiming to
improve family relationships, promote healthier lifestyles, and strengthen
community ties.

o Home Economics focuses on the family as the most important social

group, with the goal of making family life better. It teaches ways to
improve communication and relationships within the family, helping family
members get along and support each other. It also promotes healthier
lifestyles by encouraging good habits like eating well, staying active, and
managing stress. Additionally, Home Economics aims to strengthen the
connections between families and their communities, encouraging people
to work together and support one another. Overall, it’s about creating
stronger, healthier families and communities
 The field promotes ethical living and seeks to address issues such as poverty,
inequality, and consumer rights, aiming to create a more just and equitable
society.

o Home Economics encourages people to live in a way that is fair and

responsible. It focuses on important issues like poverty, inequality, and
the rights of consumers, aiming to help create a society where everyone
has an equal chance to succeed. By teaching people about these issues,
Home Economics helps them make better choices in their own lives and
encourages them to support fairness and justice in the world. The goal is
to help build a society where everyone is treated fairly and has access to
the resources they need to live a good life.
 A commitment to lifelong learning, equipping individuals with knowledge and
skills to adapt to changing personal, familial, and societal conditions throughout
their lives.

o A commitment to lifelong learning means always being open to gaining

new knowledge and skills, no matter how old you are. It helps people
keep up with changes in their personal lives, families, and the world
around them. This ongoing learning allows individuals to adapt to new
situations, solve problems, and handle challenges that come up over time.
It’s about staying flexible and ready to learn new things to keep up with
changes in life, whether it’s in your job, relationships, or society in
general.

 To develop analysis and synthesis skills through examination of contemporary

events and situations based on personal, family, and societal settings relevant to
student.

o The goal is to help students build skills in understanding and combining

information by looking at current events and situations that are important
to their personal lives, families, and society. By examining these real-
world examples, students learn how to think critically about what's
happening around them, make connections, and understand the bigger
picture. This process helps them develop the ability to analyze different
situations and come up with well-thought-out conclusions, which is useful
in both their personal and professional lives.

 Intends to cultivate livelihood and entrepreneurial skills in learners for their

survival in the instance of a global financial crisis

o The goal is to teach students skills that will help them earn a living and
start their own businesses, especially in tough times like a global financial
crisis. By learning these skills, students will be better prepared to handle
difficult situations, support themselves, and find ways to make money
even when the economy is struggling. This kind of training is meant to
give them the tools they need to be more independent and successful, no
matter what challenges the future may bring.

 Includes numerous hands-on activities and exercises, each designed for a

specific topic, which promote mastery of the theories discussed and their
applications.

o This involves a lot of practical activities and exercises, each focused on a

specific topic. These activities help people understand and practice the
ideas they've learned, making it easier to apply those ideas in real-life
situations. By doing these hands-on tasks, individuals get better at using
what they’ve learned, turning theory into practical skills.

 To reinforce, enrich, and supplement cognitive learning and to develop hands-on

skills relevant to each lesson

o The goal is to support and strengthen what students learn in their minds
by giving them practical, real-life skills that match the lesson. This means
not just teaching theory, but also providing opportunities for students to
practice and apply what they’ve learned in a hands-on way. This
approach helps make the learning more meaningful and ensures students
are ready to use their knowledge in real situations.
