• Occupational health is an area of work in public health to promote and


maintain highest degree of physical, mental and social well-being of
workers in all occupations.

• Occupational safety is identified as the discipline dealing with the


prevention of work-related injuries.

• Occupational environment can be defined as the workplace surroundings


that encompass the physical and social environment

nonprofit organization devoted to eliminating death, injury, property, and economic
loss due to fire, electrical, and related hazards.

• ASTM International, formerly known as American Society for Testing and Materials, is
a standards organization that develops and publishes voluntary consensus technical
international standards for a wide range of materials, products, systems and services.

• The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), formerly known as American


Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), is a global organization of occupational safety
and health (OSH) professional members who manage, supervise, research and

risk-based approaches to prevent workplace fatalities, injuries and illnesses.

• The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is a regulatory agency


of the United States Department of Labor that originally had federal visitorial
powers to inspect and examine workplaces.

• The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) is a non-profit organization,


whose mission is "Creating knowledge to protect worker health.

• Decontamination is the removal or reduction of harmful substances from a


patient's body. The goal of decontamination is to ensure that a toxic
substance, whether chemical, biological or radiological, is no longer in
direct contact with the patient.

• Personal protective equipment, commonly referred to as "PPE", is


equipment worn to minimize exposure to hazards that cause serious

from contact with chemical, radiological, physical, electrical, mechanical, or
other workplace hazards.

• Personal protective equipment may include items such as gloves, safety


glasses and shoes, earplugs or muffs, hard hats, respirators, or coveralls,
