Teaching Philosophy
My philosophy in teaching is to stimulate and encourage critical thinking rather than providing answers to learners . That is,
Student-Centered Approach.
Students learn better when they are placed at the center of the teaching and learning process. This is in line with the
constructivist theory of learning which states that learning is an active process in which learners’ ideas are based upon their
past or current knowledge. (Byers 2002)
I am of the view that, learners learn better when they are placed at the center of the teaching and learning process which
allowed them to express their understanding on concept taught in their own words. Thus, making Learners feel involved in
the teaching and learning process which helps develop their confidence level.
1 When moving from the known to unknown, I always go over previous knowledge with the students, either
through spoken questions or question on the board.
❖ i will pose challenging questions to the students and use their responses.
❖ It helps build and develop students’ self-esteem and confidence level. When students are placed at the center of the
learning process, they tend to contribute and share more ideas about the topic. These helped them to build, develop
and know their selves.
❖ It makes the teaching and learning process interactive. The students contribute and share their ideas, this makes the
teaching and learning process interactive with the little help of the teacher.
❖ It sustains students’ interest in the lesson. Always they are ready to participate and contribute in the class.
❖ It also helps we as a student teachers to achieve our instructional objectives at the end of every lesson.
