Introduce SKIMMING and SCANNING

Daily Routine Role Play:


Activity: Pair up students and give them different roles, like "a busy parent,"
"a student," "an office worker," etc. They will have to describe their daily
routine based on that role. For example, "I wake up at 6 a.m., prepare
breakfast for my children, and then go to work at 8 a.m."

Daily Routine Bingo:


Activity: Create bingo cards with different activities written in the boxes (e.g.,
“wake up early,” “eat lunch at work,” “watch TV in the evening”). Students
move around the classroom asking their classmates if they did any of these
activities. If the classmate says “yes,” they can mark that box. The first
student to get five in a row wins.

Round 1: Chia 2 team, mỗi lượt 1 người đại diện team sẽ dùng bảng con để

Round 2: Discuss in team then decide which adverbs belong to the

Guided writing (Show example => Controlled practice

Pair discussion => Group discussion (2G) => Show the word, which team use

Give Ss a word/phrase and ask them to write a sentence with that


word/phrase, then transfer the paper to their friends to continue their work

Ask Ss to complete the email individually => Group discussion => Divide into 2
teams, take turn to write down answer on mini board
Each S write down daily routine of somebody with the job but don't write job
name. Ask Ss to go around to guess the name of the job

Each of Ss will receive a bingo card with different holiday activities. Show
definition on slide, Ss read definition and mark the activity on your card that
matches the definition. When you’ve marked off a full row, column, or
diagonal of activities, shout "Bingo!" You’ll win the game if your answers are
correct.

Warm-Up Activity: Activate prior knowledge


Ask students: "What was your last holiday destination? What did you enjoy
most about it?"
Prompts:

What activities did you do?
What did you like/dislike?
Target Lexical Resource (Warm-Up):
Destinations (beach, mountains, city, countryside, abroad, domestic)

Running dictation:
Runner: One person runs to read the text on the wall, memorizes a part of it,
and runs back to dictate it.

Extra activity

For losing team:


English Tongue Twisters: Ask the losing team to repeat a challenging tongue
twister several times (like "She sells seashells by the seashore").
English Charades or Pictionary: Have the losing team act out or draw a word
related to the topic you're teaching. The class can guess what it is.

Picture Prompt Speaking:


Activity: Show the class several pictures that represent different parts of a
person’s day (e.g., breakfast, commuting, working, exercising). Students
describe each part of the day as if it’s their own routine.

Chain Story (Group Speaking):


Activity: In a group, each student starts by describing one part of their day
(e.g., "This morning, I woke up at 7:00 and had breakfast."). The next student
has to continue by describing the next part of their day and so on. The chain
keeps going until each student has added to the story.
Main task (25 minutes): planning and writing the email.
Brainstorm ideas:
- Ask students to write down the name of a place they recently visited or a
holiday they enjoyed.
- Encourage them to note down 2-3 activities they did during the trip.
- Have them think of one question they would ask their friend about a
holiday.
Organize the email:
- Start with an opening (greeting and reason for writing).
- Describe where you went and what you did (at least 2 activities).
- Ask the friend about their holiday (use the structures from earlier).
Prompts:
Where did you go on your holiday?
What did you do there?
How did you feel about the trip?
What do you want to know about your friend’s holiday?

Gap dictation
A. Model Analysis:
- Show the class the example provided in the book.
- Discuss the structure by asking questions like:
1. What ingredients are used in the recipe?
2. How does the writer organize the steps for making the dish?
3. Why does the writer think the dish is popular?
- Highlight the introduction, ingredients section, instructions for preparation,
and conclusion (reasons for popularity).
