NOTE: A linipot measurement always starts as follows:
-Calibration, setup, linipot, and analysis or,
-Setup, linipot, post-calibration, and analysis.

NOTE: Calibration is not necessary if the amplifier is calibrated with the

sensor you will use in this special procedure.

NOTE: Pre-calibration is not necessary if you calibrate the

amplifier/computer after the analysis (post-calibration option).

CAUTION: MAKE SURE TO GROUND THE CALIBRATION STAND TO THE COMPUTER AT EACH
LINIPOT SENSOR USE.

CAUTION: DO NOT CONNECT THE SENSOR CO-AXIAL CABLE TO THE AMPLIFIER UNTIL
INSTRUCTED.

CAUTION: DO NOT LET THE SENSOR TOUCH THE MICROMETER CALIBRATION FLANGE
AFTER THE SENSOR CO-AXIAL CABLE HAS BEEN CONNECTED TO THE
AMPLIFIER/COMPUTER OR DAMAGE TO THE AMPLIFIER COULD RESULT.

A. Connect the amplifier/computer as follows: Refer to Figure 201.

(1) Set the ON/OFF switch on the amplifier/computer to OFF.

(2) Connect the power cord to the power inlet at the rear of the
amplifier/computer.

CAUTION: BEFORE YOU CONNECT LINIPOT RUNOUT, 856A1360 OR TOOL SET,

9429M94 TO THE POWER SOURCE, MAKE SURE THAT THE POWER SOURCE
IS THE CORRECT VOLTAGE.

(3) Connect the other end of the power cord to the correct power
source.

NOTE: Use linipot runout, 856A1360G01 or tool set,, 9429M94P01

with 110V AC.
Use linipot runout, 856A1360G02 or tool set,, 9429M94P02
with 220V AC.

NOTE: Do a check of the ground lead resistance with an ohmmeter

to make sure you have a correct ground.

(4) Connect the ground lead to the socket at the rear of the
amplifier/computer.

(5) Set the ON/OFF switch on the amplifier/computer to ON.

B. Calibrate the amplifier/computer with the sensor as follows: Refer
to Figure 202.

CAUTION: DO NOT CONNECT THE SENSOR TO THE AMPLIFIER UNTIL INSTRUCTED.

(1) Connect the ground lead from the runout tool/amplifier to the
calibration block.

(2) Install the sensor in the calibration block as follows:

(a) Set the micrometer to zero.

(b) Install the sensor in the V-groove of the calibration

block. The lead points away from the micrometer. The
sensor must lightly touch the calibration flange of the
micrometer.

NOTE: If the sensor tip and calibration flange are

not parallel, calibration will be automatically
rejected.

(c) Hold the sensor in position with the clamp.

(3) Rotate the micrometer counter-clockwise one full turn.

CAUTION: DO NOT PERMIT THE SENSOR TO TOUCH THE CALIBRATION

FLANGE AFTER THE SENSOR HAS BEEN CONNECTED TO THE
AMPLIFIER/COMPUTER OR DAMAGE TO THE AMPLIFIER WILL RESULT.

(4) Connect the sensor co-axial cable to the input connection at the
rear of the amplifier/computer.

(5) Set the micrometer to 0.005 inch (0,13 mm).

(6) Prepare the computer as follows:

(a) Select option 1 (Application. LGDAS or LGWAS) for linipot

data gathering.

NOTE: Option 2 and 3 are for training and option 4 and

5 are for back-up data.

(b) Make sure the written station is correct (Y/N).

(c) Enter the operator's name.

(d) At the READY prompt, select C (Calibration), one of the

subsequent options from the top of the screen:

NOTE: You must always do the setup before the linipot.

(e) Enter data/information as requested on the screen.

(7) Do the calibration as follows:

CAUTION: DO NOT PERMIT THE SENSOR TO TOUCH THE CALIBRATION

FLANGE WHILE IT IS CONNECTED TO THE AMPLIFIER OR
DAMAGE WILL RESULT.

NOTE: The digital display on the screen is in VOLTS

and should read between 0.002 and 0.005 inch.
The values on screen are not always equal to the
dimensions of the micrometer.

(a) Press the C key to record the data.

(b) Set the micrometer to 0.010 inch (0,25 mm).

(c) Press the C key to record the data.

(d) Do steps (b) and (c) again at 0.005 inch (0,13 mm)
increments until you get a final measurement of 0.075 inch
(1,9 mm).

(e) If calibration is good, go to step (h). The computer will

automatically save it in memory.

(f) If the calibration is automatically aborted, do the

following:

1 Check the probe installation in the v-groove on the

calibration stand.

2 Make sure the linipot probe is connected correctly in

the computer.

3 Examine the linipot probe wire for tears in the

insulation or bare wires.

4 Make sure the ground wire is connected properly to the

computer and the calibration block.

5 Check the electrical continuity of the ground wire.

(g) Do steps 3B.(6) and 3B.(7) above to repeat calibration. If
calibration is automatically aborted:

1 Replace the linipot wire and do the calibration again.

2 Refer to calibration failure in the LGDAS or LGWAS

User's Manual for troubleshooting procedures.

(h) After you complete the calibration, disconnect the sensor

co-axial cable from the back of the amplifier.

(i) Remove the probe and ground lead from the calibration
block.

(j) If "Calibration Done" is displayed on the computer, type

"C" for (Continue). Comments are possible through option
"A" (All Comments) or "S" (Select Comments).
