Ans: The principles of Democracy, Equality and liberty were the main ideals of the American
Revolution. It stated that ‘all men are born equal and have the right to life and liberty’.

Ans:-The colonist had a Liberal and Democratic tradition. They developed an American identity,
based on freedom and individualism.

5. What do you understand by the slogan’ No taxation without representation?

Ans:-Under its mercantile policy, the British government imposed numerous economic restrictions
and extracted taxes from the colonists who argued that the British government had no right to tax
the colonist since they had no representation in the British Parliament . they gave a call for ‘No
taxation without representation.

1. what was the significance of Boston Tea Party?

Ans:- On 16th December 1773, a group of colonists, disguised as native Americans ,destroyed an entire
shipment of tea sent by the English East India Company. They boarded the British ships and threw the chests

of tea into the Boston Harbour. This act was in protest against the new taxes, including a tax on tea, imposed
on the colonies. The British Government saw this as an act of open defiance and responded harshly. The
tensions of the Boston Tea Party eventually escalated into the American war of a Independence.

2. What were the main reasons for the discontent of the colonists with the British government?

Ans:-The thirteen colonies were under the control of British government. Though the government of
Britain gave them freedom in managing their local affairs, it kept a tight control on their economic affairs. In
economic matters, they were subject to the British mercantile policy, which was concerned with the welfare of
the parent country. By the mid-eighteenth century, the colonies had developed prosperous agricultural
economies, with expanding industries and a thriving maritime trade. To cash in on this prosperity, The British
government levied heavy taxes on the colonies. It placed many restrictions on their trade and commerce.
These restrictions greatly hampered the economic development of the colonies. Also, the British empire was
under heavy loss and debt after 7 years war (1756-1763) between Britain and France. It wanted the colonies
to partly bear the expanses of the war. This was resented by the colonies.

3. What were the economic causes that led to the American war of Independence?

Ans:- The economic cause that led to the American war of Independence are :-

 The 13 colonies were under the control of British government. Thought the government of Britain
gave them freedom in managing their local affairs, it kept a tight control on their economic matters.
 In economic matters they were subject to the British mercantile policy, which was concerned with
the welfare of the parent country.
 In 18 th c the colonies had developed prosperous agricultural economies, with expanding industries
and a thriving maritime trade.
 To cash in on this prosperity, British levied heavy taxes, restriction greatly on their trade and
commerce.
 British wanted the colonies to partly bear the expenses of the ‘Seven Years War (1756-1763) this was
resented by the colonies.

4. Describe the birth of United States of America?

Ans: The long war for independence ended in 1781 after the colonists defeated the British
forces. In 1783 the British government formally recognized the independence of the 13 revolutionary colonies
by the Treaty of Paris. Through the treaty, the British government accepted and recognized their
independence and the colonies came to be known as the United States of America.

5. What was the impact of the American Revolution?

Ans:-the impact of the American Revolution are:-

 Birth of a new country United States of America


 America ideals of liberty and equality and the founding principles of its constitution inspired many
nations all over the world to fight for the same ideals.
 There was not one sphere of American life that was untouched by the revolution.
 The American Revolution exerted immense influence on France, with French idealists actively
collaborating with Americans. The American Revolution deeply influenced the French Revolution
of 1789.
