I remember the first time I got lost shopping center you ever seen one of those
would have seen plenty before. And we were there for a big sale. Mum loved a sale.
And she obviously didn't mean to lose me or I didn't mean to lose her don't know
which one of us did the losing. But suddenly, I'm alone, surrounded by coats and
racks. The size of trees. Have they felt that big to me because I'm only six or
something. And I make a nest in a fairy one that's fallen on the floor. And I start
to cry. And when she finds me, Mum, she's she just froze and all the shopping and
keeps me up. And I still remember what she said. If you've ever lost my love, just
talk to someone. Anyone?
Speaker 2 1:36
No, you haven't. I've heard so many stories about your childhood. there when you
were a child never heard that big.
Speaker 1 1:43
It's been a long few days weren't getting on each other's nerves.
Speaker 2 1:46
I'm not getting on yours. Oh, yes. But the thing is, all your stories just happen
to involve your mum. Don't think I don't know what you're doing. What we're doing,
trying to get me to talk about her. About what happened. Who she was to me who she
was to you. We're not family. You and me. We're not Tyler's and your mom's? What?
From a different universe. Gunny? I tried to explain that you know what I think? I
think you are lost. If it's true and you're hopping from one dimension to the next
then you shouldn't be here should you got no ties to the place never heard never
will. We really don't need to talk no, because I'm not lost. I know exactly where
I'm going and why is that this way? And that's all I need to know. Just one foot in
front of the other if you like alright Danny is too just
Speaker 1 2:45
I've lost people before and I bottled it up if I'm trying to do anything
Speaker 2 3:58
Got a lot so loud My head's ringing your I
Unknown Speaker 4:03
don't know what this is. mine shaft can you see your way back up?
Speaker 2 4:12
I'm not sure oh my foot. Oh that hurt. You hurt yourself just landed on it badly.
And there's all this gunk on the floor.
Speaker 2 4:25
I don't know. But this thing is making me lightheaded. All right, well, don't sniff
it easy for you to say you are not covered in it.
Speaker 1 4:36
I'm coming down I just need to find can uses a lot of there's a fine when you need
one.
Speaker 1 4:45
Ah no, you're injured stop moving. I can maybe wait. What we've got company who? No
idea. You keep quiet because they might not be You
Speaker 3 5:24
isn't looking for trouble? You're gonna find it out here regardless. Find out those
burned out buildings. They're
Speaker 3 5:31
You don't last long on your own. I've learned that much. Looks like you could learn
it to you Navy fall down that Oh, don't go to the edge. Don't worry. I wouldn't
risk it.
Speaker 3 5:43
See those symbols on the stones around it? That marks it as a hiker pit was a hiker
pit, a pit made by a hiker? I totally know what the hikers are. Do you? Are you
still alive? ask myself that every day. You fall down there and you're dead. It's
not the height that kills you. It's the stuff they line it with little see you off.
What's wrong? Oh egg. You're not alone. Are you?
Speaker 3 6:10
Maybe there's still time. Everyone back here. Now.
Speaker 3 6:21
may not be able to but resin is a powerful sedative. HawKer. Get the tow line from
the truck. Delphi empty everyone's rations. Got any meat on you know why the hikers
lay these traps for food. If they come here, see it's open and empty. They'll track
the scent of the resin. Any injuries
Speaker 1 6:43
There's something up with her foot. I'll be careful when I grab them. You're not
going down. I'm responsible for them. And
Speaker 3 6:49
I respect that but I know what I'm doing. Right is the line. Just pray we get them
in time
Speaker 1 7:19
They're gonna be okay. You know we've washed off what we could still smell that
stuff on him on me.
Speaker 3 7:24
We've signed showers at the settlement. They do wonders, but that gash on their
foot. We can handle it. I promise. I'm Laura. By the way.
Speaker 3 7:36
Don't mention it. We'll get it patched up and you'll be on your way in no time. Are
you to each other? You're not old enough to be their mom.
Speaker 3 7:48
It's complicated. Life here usually is. You've seen anyone else lately. Maybe out
on the road. Not that there's much of a road these days.
Speaker 1 7:59
Few more land pirates a couple of days back but we kept our distance where we are.
That's your settlement. The
Speaker 3 8:24
You find no but we found some other wastes and strays. Rose This is Minton, our
medic. You've got to help Danny. What's happened? Her kid fell into a hiker trap.
Speaker 1 8:34
I see her. You got to clean them clean. Yeah,
Speaker 3 8:38
as best we could. And we're all getting sanded before we step inside the colony.
I'll carry down through no rows you need to get sanded to Yes. He'll
Speaker 4 8:47
take them in. Don't worry, love. I'll make sure they're all right. Just
Speaker 3 8:53
show rose the showers. It's not exactly spa treatment, but it'll suffice and it
won't take long will it you'll be back with your attorney before you know it
Speaker 4 9:07
managing jets take them onto medical you shouldn't follow us Laura. You need to get
cleaned up as well. I know what's up. If I didn't know better. I'd say you wanted
to hug luckily, you do know me better. No sign of lexan
Speaker 3 9:26
I'm never gonna find Laura. I'm fine. I'm sharing and I'm heading back out first
thing
Speaker 3 9:34
She better be cuz right now. I want to throttle myself
Speaker 1 9:49
I'm here. What? Were Keep still, those people who came they brought us back to
their camp. It's no counselor state used to live on arrays. Are we safe? Early
days, but we wouldn't have rescued you without them. Why
Speaker 1 10:06
I've been blasted with sand. What's your excuse?
Speaker 2 10:09
I can still smell that gunk. Oh,
Speaker 4 10:16
not a doctor love. We used to have a surgeon and I made the mistake of passing him
needles and bandages every once in a while. Now that he's gone. I'm the only one
left with half a clue. I
Speaker 2 10:28
I can help. What do you mean he's gone? Was it until I? Yep.
Speaker 4 10:33
It's if I go into all the grisly details. I'd be accused of having a terrible
bedside manner. We need to get this residue off. You can't use a sun shower with
that injury of yours. But I've got a bomb that will kill this think anything I
should know first medical conditions of mutations. No.
Speaker 1 10:53
They're perfectly normal. I can speak for myself not damaged your tongue.
Speaker 4 10:56
Let me take a closer look at that foot. Keep that love. You only get the sense on
you again. Stay outside.
Speaker 4 11:16
Really? Please love. I need to work.
Speaker 1 11:20
I'll be right outside. Shout if you need me.
Speaker 4 11:27
She's protected. Suppose we don't have to chat suits me just fine. Finally, a
patient on my wavelength. Right back down on this stick. Right? If your screen to
run back in munchie I've got to disinfect this cut and stitch it back up. And
luckily for you, we ran out of painkillers a few months back.
Speaker 3 11:54
minsum more sought them out. She reset my arm a couple of months back. I enjoyed it
a little too much. But she knew what she was doing. So tell me, what were you both
doing out there? Just trying to get pie? Aren't we all? Will you need to stay the
night? I don't know. Maybe any longer and we'll ask you to pitch in. Only keep. We
won't
Speaker 1 12:16
stick around. No offense. We just came from a community and it wasn't the
healthiest. So I did wonder.
Speaker 3 12:25
Well, we keep things fair and equal here. No special treatment for anyone. The high
roads got around 80 families living here now. We've got farming balconies. Water
collectors on the roof. communal meals are on the fourth floor. If you stand by the
old lift shafts you can guess what's cooking. I'll show you around. If you like
maybe later. I want to wait near dunny course. I'd be the same. Exactly the same.
Speaker 3 12:53
You need me just ask around someone will know where I am. But try not to worry.
You're Danny safe with us.
Speaker 2 13:21
It's not my foot anymore. Something feels wrong here.
Speaker 4 13:34
After you put the bomb on, you can take one of these what is it? It'll help you
sleep there safe enough. I take myself marvelous at blocking it all out.
Speaker 4 13:45
Can you blame me? Life is pretty grim these days. But that's perceptive of you.
Speaker 4 13:55
All right, bomb than pill. And you won't want us breathing down your neck. I'll
speak to your friend out there. We'll let you rest
Speaker 1 14:17
saw no streets on back there. So that's where the name came from high road.
Speaker 3 14:22
What do you think it was some sort of moral declaration
Speaker 3 14:48
Just glad you run into us first and not the hikers.
Speaker 3 14:55
But I never have to. Don't travel around at night. Have you decided if you're
staying the
Speaker 1 15:02
evening won't be long before the sunset? Because we have to now, you're still wary
of us.
Speaker 5 15:11
But into like a leader who's willing to scrub a dirty wall itself.
Speaker 1 15:16
Who says I'm the leader? Basically, everyone I've spoken to so far. Had a little
poke around the lobby met some people. Got a good set up here. Better than what we
came from. They all seem happy for a start. And you're right about the lift shafts.
Speaker 1 15:41
Hang on. What is this? We're washing off.
Speaker 3 15:49
Well done. Animals say this is the memorial walk. And why are we washing them off?
Got to make room? Oh, this
Speaker 1 16:00
feels wrong. What do you mean? We're scrubbing out people names of people where
they lost to the empty.
Speaker 3 16:08
Most of them. Yeah. They get three months I'm here. More or less. Then we have to
clear the way. Always more names to write. Look, I'm not judging sounds as though
you are. Why can't you just small, we have to keep things contained. This section
here between these doors. We all agreed. But call it the name spill over it stretch
around the whole tower eventually. I'm not having our settlement scribbled with
grief. We're not a backwards looking place. In fact, we reckon we have a little
glimpse of the future. As you mean, let's finish this later. Come on. Best view of
what I'm on about is from the ninth floor.
Speaker 3 17:10
while Toby leaning out of it. walkways hole collapsed on this level so it's
uninhabitable. But I come here for the panorama. It's perfect for this time of day.
When dusk is kicking in
Speaker 3 17:29
to in a manner of speaking, but don't go over there. Why no, we call that the low
road. A dark joke.
Speaker 3 17:38
That's where the anti life lives? What if that's not a contradiction?
Speaker 1 17:43
What do you mean? That's where the set over there? Seen that stuff is
Speaker 3 17:47
dangerous. Dangerous doesn't even cover it? It's a plague on reality. And yet, it's
moved in next door. Look, what's that? The 11th 12th floor third window from the
left.
Speaker 3 18:02
It'd be monstrously violent, but from this distance is just a gentle glow.
Speaker 1 18:08
That's anti life. Yup. But what's it doing? Why is it in there?
Speaker 3 18:13
No idea. Maybe it's just trying to get by as well.
Speaker 5 18:16
And you'll live in side by side with it. Where it doesn't come
Speaker 3 18:21
out. doesn't trouble us. just stays there and leaves us well alone. Does that scare
you?
Speaker 1 18:27
A little bit? Yeah. So when you're talking about the future,
Speaker 3 18:31
I don't know what that stuff is. What it's done to my friends, my people. But we're
going to have to figure out a way of surviving with it, aren't we? And maybe this
is how we do it.
Speaker 1 18:43
I think that's remarkably come with you.
Speaker 3 18:47
Top floor. There's more huge clump of the stuff. Maybe that's a whole family of
anti life. Maybe they merge together and form one big void? Nobody. Nobody does.
Speaker 3 19:04
Come on. I'll take you back down again. Your Danny's probably awake by now.
Speaker 1 19:33
Rise and shine Sleepyhead How do you feel? Grim? Yeah, you look at she did a good
job on your foot. What's his ointment you've used? You've never smelled better.
Charming?
Speaker 2 19:46
Is a crutch for you here was something wrong rose. We're in danger here.
Speaker 2 19:53
It's near by? So much darkness. I can't. I hit my abilities for so long. I find it
hard I wanted to know what they're saying what they're bringing to the surface.
Sorry. Sorry.
Speaker 1 20:05
I know. I know. What is the anti life? Is it here? It's nothing to worry about.
Speaker 1 20:11
don't mean it's. I just mean we're not in any trouble. I'll explain over dinner.
Get up. First let me show you the room they've given us for the night beats camping
in burnt out buildings. See the state
Speaker 1 20:24
We managed with that crap. Sure. Do I need to carry you as F? Oh, easy. Leave off.
Speaker 2 20:47
a total anti life pool of eels. This is like, trying to live on a raft in the
middle of that Laura says it's peaceful, peaceful. After what it did to mum. And
she's the only one you saw change. You're new here. You don't know how the stuff
could shredded to pieces. You're right. I'm new.
Speaker 1 21:04
And I don't know what's going on. But what's happening here look, compared to the
ocean dame? I just find this place a little more hopeful. estates like this.
They're always underestimated. They're building something special here.
Speaker 2 21:18
What do you care? He'll bounce away as soon as you get the chance. Danny, that's
not fair. What do you do with me? Leave me in a dump like this A grotty tower blog
with
Speaker 1 21:29
Danny, what you're showing you so far. I don't care. You're acting like a kid.
She's coming over. Great.
Speaker 2 21:44
us better slop on the ship. And we were prisoners. You'll Apologize right now. Ah.
Speaker 4 21:53
don't mention it. Strong. That's good. Means I recover quickly. What did they mean
prisoners?
Speaker 1 22:01
They weren't what the mother was. It's a long story and not a very interesting one.
Speaker 4 22:08
I'll be the judge of that. You can tell me as we eat. Can I join you?
Speaker 1 22:45
Danny, can I come in? It's not locked. That's not what I'm asking. Is burst into my
room without knocking
Speaker 1 22:53
Yeah. Because I miss my mom. And you miss yours. And they're not the same person.
But there's something special that tethered the two of them. So I just want you to
know, I'm here for you. Not as a mother either not as a sister, even though on some
level on? I don't know. I don't know. But I'm someone else who's
Speaker 2 23:24
I'm sorry, roses. Just everything that's happened. And then this place that
monstrous stuff. So nearby, our balcony doesn't face that way. I'm unsure if that
doesn't make a difference. Or hear it in my head. And it reminds me of what it did
to her and I'm scared. Rose. I don't want that to happen to me. I don't want that
to happen to you. I won't let you can't make that kind of promise. Can I?
Speaker 1 23:54
I'm Rose Tyler. I can leave across dimensions. Not at the moment. You
Speaker 1 24:00
I guess not. Go to bed. I'll be back soon. I want to find Laura. Why? I'll tell her
we're leaving early and ask her something
Speaker 1 24:22
you're all the way up here. You might be on the ninth again. Just
Speaker 3 24:33
And always Is everything all right? Minton mentioned there was upset of dinner.
Speaker 1 24:40
Danny's just tired. But I've got a question. You're an established Khalidiya Have
you heard of any others? Perhaps one more?
Speaker 3 24:56
These collectors not advanced enough for you? Do you break down twice
Speaker 1 25:01
a week? Just for when we move on? You'd
Speaker 3 25:05
be welcome to stay for a while. But if Danny needs to let that foot of theirs heal.
Speaker 1 25:11
Like I said before, we're not really settling guide, but I do. I do admire what
you've done here.
Speaker 3 25:17
Thank you. I don't know of any other settlements like ours, I'm afraid and surely
Tech's not working anywhere. We're lucky to have those vehicles running. I can ask
around to make sure we've had people join us from all over. Thanks. It's a pity you
want to leave. I was going to ask you a question to what was it? If you'd be
willing to help me? I never said why I was out this morning. I was looking for my
daughter. Your daughter, Lex. She ran away five days ago now. Why? Why did Danny
run out of the food hall? is just what youngsters are like, bursting with potential
and rage. I think she thought she'd be better on her own. And she's not. That's not
how you survive out here.
Speaker 3 26:06
I'm so angry with her. And I just want her back. If it is wrong with me to say
Minton has an idea about who Danny is. or other. What they are. What do you mean? I
won't say anything, so you don't have to lie to me. But if there's a chance that
they have a talent for tracking I'd be grateful rose. I'm at my wit's end. I
Speaker 3 26:37
But you want to help close it. Then that's enough for me. One leads me to my stars
Speaker 1 27:08
Pair of escaped around each other.
Speaker 1 27:14
I just bought it. No, you join mom
Speaker 2 27:18
heard about this memorial wall. Next some chalk.
Speaker 5 27:21
Funny. This beautiful. I didn't know you could draw. got yourself a real skill
Speaker 2 27:28
there. Thought I should leave something behind. Nearly done.
Speaker 1 27:31
You're packed. So I'm gonna want to run past you. What is it? Laura has asked us
for a favor. What kind of favor to look for someone?
Speaker 2 27:42
Does she know about my other skill? No. Then why would we hunt someone down for
her?
Speaker 1 27:50
Cuz she saved your life. That's why. And we're not hunting them.
Speaker 1 27:55
our problem. You don't mean that? You helped me and you didn't know who I was?
Speaker 2 27:59
Is she out there? In this wasteland? That's what Laura thinks. Fine.
Speaker 1 28:07
It's the right thing to do. I'm finishing this first. All right. Your mum would
have really appreciated it. You think? Yeah. I'll meet you by the entrance in an
hour. See this?
Speaker 3 28:33
He's a sketch of Lex and a personal note from me. In case she needs convincing.
Speaker 3 28:41
I know. But you're trying. You'll manage on that foot of yours. I'm a quick healer.
And we'll take it easy. Watch out for hikers look out for their symbols. They
always mark their territory. They like dark, dank places.
Speaker 2 29:16
Right, so let's take it now. How do you stop the saying? Suppose they did a good
job with it. And we're going in the right direction. We're going away from the
creepy tower of anti life. That's the right direction for me. Are you tracking legs
or what? Tracking legs? Yeah, maybe I don't want to do that. But that's what we
agreed. Well, that's why you agreed. We don't need to go back there. Now. We could
just be on our way. Danny. I hope you're not seriously suggesting that. Sorry. You
want me acting as your sniffer dog to you. I thought you were trying to protect me
from that life. That's not fair. What it is if you think you can use
Speaker 1 29:54
me, I'm not using you. You have an ability and ability to help others to help the
people who rescued you. I think that's the right thing to do. Don't
Speaker 1 30:08
You do what you want, Danny, I'm not your mom. I'm not your keeper. But if this Lex
is lost right now, just imagine how she feels.
Speaker 2 30:16
I don't have to imagine why. Because I'm sensing her anti. Last scared. And thereby
Speaker 2 30:28
help it. Because I'm an idiot who should know better than to stick their neck out
for strangers. No.
Speaker 5 30:34
Because you kind of brave
Speaker 2 30:39
Come on. I've got to go now over this next rich
Speaker 1 31:08
I mean, it's some kind of motorway tunnel. But that's not why it was some sort of
graffiti. So you didn't get a good look at the rocks around the
Speaker 1 31:31
Maybe whatever these heights can't be sensed. Possibly.
Speaker 1 31:42
sign of trouble. You're running out of here as fast as possible. Yeah.
Speaker 6 32:27
Legs, backs against the wall. Now. Maybe you
Speaker 6 32:36
Let's do the fun of this plan. Who are you both? How do you know my name?
Speaker 1 32:40
I told you. We're friends. I don't have any friends.
Speaker 2 32:43
Think why we don't mean you any harm. And neither do you. You're not going to use
that.
Speaker 1 32:51
mum sent us. My mum. She's worried about you.
Speaker 1 33:04
Do you mind if I read it? Next Mueller. Please come home. I know you're scared. We
need you back here.
Unknown Speaker 33:15
We'll stop it. You need to go right now.
Speaker 1 33:18
We're not leaving you. Is this place? hiker dead? Aren't you in danger?
Speaker 6 33:23
She's convinced you about those as well as she was you mean there are no hikers not
anymore. Sorry. I fell into one of their traps. They left traps all over. But
they're long gone. Maybe the anti life took them to no idea.
Speaker 6 33:38
You think she doesn't already? You think the threat of what's out there isn't a
handy tool to keep her colony
Speaker 1 33:43
in line of sight and think we don't have the full story here. You reckon?
Speaker 2 33:49
I'm guessing because of something bad. You're scared your head heading across the
way the low road Yeah,
Speaker 6 33:59
I'm next next for next to go inside. being picked
Speaker 1 34:11
What does that even mean? Next to go inside? You can't go over there not without
stuff inside.
Speaker 6 34:15
She's going to make me her own daughter. Bumping us off one by one. You don't know
what she's willing to do? A place like that requires a sacrifice. That's what she
always says. He need to hide. I am hiding. At least I was till you show that No, I
Speaker 2 34:30
mean you need to hide right now. I can sense them at the mouth of the tunnel since
who? They were tracking us all along. Why didn't I see Lex?
Speaker 3 35:18
What has she been saying to you the truth? I see the truth. Probably some nonsense
about me being a tyrant or worse, kids these days? Not sure you can write it off
like that. You've got a choice Rose, who to believe I
Speaker 1 35:34
just want to understand legs, things you'll send in her into the low road.
Speaker 3 35:39
She knows what she has to do, and I won't do it. So it's true. I'm not explaining
myself to outsiders, because you're ashamed. No, because you're not with us. You're
on your own can wait to get away. Look at a bear the two of you No, Ill we helped
you. And you helped us and now you can be on your way. We even brought you extra
supplies for your onward journey. Trying to fob us off. I haven't got time for
this. If you won't come willingly. Let's
Speaker 2 36:42
here we go. Now you obviously beard. I dragged you out here for a bit for shear.
Her still full of sand by the way. Laura, she's gone.
Unknown Speaker 36:56
You're right.
Speaker 2 37:03
They took her watching her back home. I was watching them. Like they were taking
her to be executed.
Speaker 2 37:14
We're gonna go after, aren't we? We have the perfect chance to leave this all
behind. That Laura may have been lying about a lot of things but not about our
supplies.
Speaker 1 37:26
But we're not going to leave it all behind. Even if we left right now it sticks
with us the guilt. The shame.
Speaker 2 37:37
put the kid in danger. It's not your fault. You know?
Speaker 1 37:40
I don't know. I need it to make sense. What she said about sacrifice. Surely laro
couldn't do that to your own daughter.
Speaker 2 37:49
There was genuine sadness there. We need to catch up with them. They are not going
to be pleased to see us. Help me up
Speaker 5 38:06
that's something mum. My mum used to say. And when to
Speaker 1 38:31
hoped I come in peace. A bit of a cliche, but it's true.
Speaker 3 38:35
It's alright. Just for the gonna keep patrolling. Laura.
Speaker 3 38:50
I told you. We can't travel at night. You took a risk coming here yourself. Where's
Danny?
Speaker 1 38:55
I left them in the tunnel. For it's worse than ever. And
Speaker 3 38:59
I'm sorry about that, too. I shouldn't have let things get so heated. You should go
back to them. They may not be safe up there. Why didn't you see the markings? That
was hiker territory.
Speaker 1 39:11
Oh, the hikers. Yeah, I reckon they'll be fine. Like we talk. Well, let's
Speaker 3 39:18
stroll the camps perimeter. Underneath the stars again. Where his legs. She's safe
Speaker 1 39:27
and comfortable. Tell me what you're doing with her. She called it a sacrifice.
Speaker 3 39:33
In a way it is a sacrifice for the high road.
Speaker 1 39:37
So it's true. You really are sending her into that tower block.
Speaker 3 39:42
I'm not sending her anywhere. She's going over her own accord.
Speaker 1 39:46
Doesn't seem like it. She'll come around. He said the anti life left you
Speaker 3 39:50
alone. It does. But only if we we discovered whatever they are. They need their
fill there. Oh I fail. I don't pretend it isn't hard or abhorrent, but under
certain conditions, we can live in harmony with the anti life
Speaker 3 40:12
They leave us alone. Their presence scares away monsters, land parents, anyone who
threaten our community, and all it requires is, is a compromise. And how often do
you compromise? Barely once a year? You saw the lights of the windows, you saw how
they gleaned last night when they get too bright it's time otherwise the whole
settlement will be swamped. That will before a few years back we will need to act
and how families will take
Speaker 1 40:40
so you've send someone in and they don't come out and Next in line is your own
daughter. I don't think I have the words Laura to think I let myself respect to you
Speaker 2 41:12
he's that your gallon rescuer you came back for me. We kind of got you in this mess
in the first place seems only right. They've tied you up nice and tight. I'll get
you free. Then come with me
Speaker 3 41:32
there's a lottery when it needs to be done. Nobody's exempt not even me. But this
time Lex drew the short straw and you think what? I should protect her?
Speaker 3 41:44
and the leader of the settlement. I have to think of the greater good
Speaker 1 41:48
this is you then is it taking the high road a moral declaration after all?
Speaker 3 41:54
Let's do the risk we all do every time it comes around and is not barbaric there's
a midnight party celebrating the life of the hero going over the road to save us
all to be surrounded by so much love to know you're doing the right thing. I can't
think of a better way to go
Speaker 1 42:14
so that makes it alright then big old Nisa next doesn't know
Speaker 7 42:19
the trouble she's caused nerve of Hirsch at risk
Speaker 1 42:26
this way has to be a bit way why
Speaker 6 42:32
No no, I'm better off on my own
Speaker 7 42:36
We could have preyed on outsiders outside just like you but we didn't this is an
internal matter if you could hear yourself of course I can hear myself and I hate
it with every fiber of my being but this has to be done so we can all be together
and all be safe what was happening a hiker quickly Great.
Speaker 1 43:30
she know maybe maybe it's not too late. We got Danielle before can't sensor
anymore. Coming next Laura don't look bigger. She must badly she's not I don't
know.
Speaker 7 44:04
I wanted her death to have dignity. She was playing her part from a colony she was
making me proud but this is senseless it's restrain them narrow please nobody's to
blame the low road
Speaker 1 44:19
still needs a new resident is when you're thinking about right now.
Speaker 1 44:27
do this. Do don't do this backup
Speaker 7 44:31
camp. It's nearly dawn Laura. Silence. You've done enough damage. I'm doing what
little I can to set things right
Speaker 3 44:50
It's nearly time. Just hold on, please. Oh, Rose commented my other view I guess
You can leave us a call when I'm done.
Speaker 1 45:11
I trust you're comfortable. That sells fine, because what you need, but I'm not
comfortable about any of this. They said you had a proposal for me. Yeah.
Speaker 3 45:21
If it's all take Danny's place then I'm sorry. I can't agree to that. I have no
idea if you'll stay on after this, but your team useful rose. Also in the child.
There
Speaker 1 45:33
is absolutely zero chance I will stay on here. And who were you to say who's useful
or not? Remember?
Speaker 3 45:39
I know what they are rose. swelled is no place with Pathik. Those holes twisted out
of reality.
Speaker 1 45:49
I pity them. They don't need your PC. Say what
Speaker 3 45:53
you need to say. You can go back to your room. We send them in at Daum. I'll let
you up tomorrow when it's all over. Trust you won't give us any trouble.
Speaker 1 46:01
I'm nothing but trouble. I never told you why I was asking about technology before.
What I'm going to tell you is it's going to sound wild. Basil true. I promise you
I'm from another dimension. And I don't mean that metaphorically. I am literally
from a whole other universe. They're all a bit like this or dying or crying out to
be saved and nobody's doing anything about it. I'm looking for the only man who can
Speaker 1 46:41
Yeah. Look at me you know I'm not lying. I have a device that gets me from place to
place a dimension callin is not working at the moment. But look, this is incredibly
powerful tech. And I will give this to you if you let Danny go.
Speaker 3 47:02
If that thing really is what you say is what's to stop me from taking nothing.
Speaker 1 47:15
where you've got a better chance of getting it fixed, and then you can get away
from here.
Speaker 3 47:19
Go to another dimension. Yeah, leave my colony. My community.
Speaker 1 47:24
A community built on a lie. Is no community at all.
Speaker 3 47:34
I don't want other versions of we worked so hard on this place. She designed those
water collectors on the Rufina she spent hours up there. When you if you've really
just arrived here Who are you to judge? Why you care so much about this? Danny? Why
not just leave and keep looking for this man of yours?
Speaker 3 48:02
them and are you going to take Danny to all those other universities as well? Are
you giving all that up?
Speaker 3 48:12
I don't think you will. You're not settling kind remember? You've got the low road
rose it's far too bright tonight. All my people will suffer if we don't dim it
soon. I'm impressed you care so much for someone you barely know it's a testament
to your big heart but we can't have big hearts they beat him easily.
Speaker 1 48:39
I'm done here Laura if you don't want this device then maybe there's another way
there isn't
Speaker 7 48:43
I know it hopefully
Speaker 3 48:46
it will be over for them swiftly like it was for my legs so you're the morning rose
Speaker 1 49:37
I knew you'd come for you couldn't sense things with that stuff out there.
Speaker 1 49:45
Oh Rose Tyler. But we haven't got much time. Call the lever quickly. Find my me
Speaker 1 50:00
more widely this way
Speaker 1 50:04
it's alright Debbie. Hi Minton. Little midnight stroll, something like that. I was
just about
Speaker 4 50:11
to visit you, Danny. offer you a last meal. You know, I can't let you go.
Speaker 4 50:23
walk out of here. You reckon you can talk your way out of this?
Speaker 1 50:26
I've got nothing to say that will change your mind refreshingly honest, because
your mind doesn't need changing. You know, this isn't right. Oh,
Speaker 4 50:34
I see. Well, it doesn't matter what I know, doesn't it?
Speaker 1 50:38
Did Lex leave the high road on our own? Or did she have some help? And why would I
have helped? She said she didn't have any friends here. But one thing we all have
is family. Laura clearly keeps it quiet. Maybe she thinks it would undermine her. I
know who you are. I see the resemblance.
Speaker 1 51:01
You're not seriously going to tell me you're willing to stand by and watch your
granddaughter be taken next door? You're not like Laura you could have done
anything to save her then No, I'm going to do anything to save Danny she was a
brave girl your links I'm sorry I knew it briefly.
Speaker 2 51:51
who's gonna see us in the pitch black someone there? Great. Thanks
Speaker 7 52:21
This is horrifying. To see where we have a few indicators broken.
Speaker 7 52:42
in pursuit. Harper Stenson Jeff's after the put your beams on full are all
following the truck. Wait a moment laughs Don't call me that.
Speaker 4 52:51
What happens if you don't get them back? Another lottery. There's no time
Speaker 7 52:54
of prep for evacuation. No. Absolutely not
Speaker 4 52:58
that towers lit up like a beacon now and it will be dark again. So
Speaker 4 53:05
please stay safe and calm this YouTube
Speaker 1 53:32
will hide in those buildings that
Speaker 1 53:40
so well. Last time. We have to try and make them see reason.
Speaker 1 54:10
So we slip away quietly. Didn't want to cause a fast.
Speaker 7 54:24
making this so much worse than it has to be. You're scaring the kid.
Speaker 2 54:27
I'm not a kid. And you're the one that's terrifying. Says the Pathak
Speaker 3 54:31
the freak. We accepted you for what you were 1000s wouldn't
Speaker 1 54:37
You say you won't take me instead. But you will. Why would I? Because Danny will
detonate a mind bomb inside you. Oh, it's nothing to laugh about. Patrick's have
done it before. tons of times.
Speaker 2 54:56
don't do this rose. Won't let them take you instead of me. You have to They, please
I won't let them
Speaker 2 55:05
They come. scurrying scuttling wailing whistling what is that? I guess
Speaker 7 55:22
next was wrong. I've always said we shouldn't be out here in the dog. We need to
Speaker 7 55:52
not if you're driving. No, this is interesting. Because now you have to make the
choice that I make all the time. My life to save yours and Danny's. Is it worth it?
It doesn't have to be that way. What happens when it does when you make the
impossible choice?
Speaker 7 56:16
When the world is tearing apart, you can always go Go on. Go. Take the truck. Lead
them off. Nora. This is what I choose to do. And I like to you southwest. The DOS
apparently is some kind of haven where technology still functions. That's where you
need to go. Fix your cannon get out of this hell goodbye rose. Danny
Speaker 2 57:46
Fine. No, not fine. What's going to happen to the high road? I
Speaker 1 57:53
can't see minting carrying things on the way they were. But it may not be up to
her.
Speaker 5 58:00
I should have listened to you before when you said you wanted to lead
Speaker 2 58:04
No, it's not your fault. I don't blame her. Laura. What do you mean? She was just
doing what she needed to do?
Speaker 5 58:13
She would have killed you and can many others that have been sent to their deaths.
But
Speaker 2 58:20
she was right about impossible choices in this broken world if she got into the
truck, but she didn't. She wouldn't. And that's not your fault either. I hope you
get away soon rose I don't want this place. Poisoning you. You're so pure in my
mind. Despite the chaos your point of calmness.
Speaker 1 58:54
we've got about maybe 40 miles of petrol left in this. Then we're back on foot
looking for these domes. But until then, just you and me driving through the night.
And I want you to tell me everything about
Speaker 4 59:31
minsum I'll be all set. Just a minute jets. We need to leave now. I know. I know.
The low road is about to go any moment isn't him. Just wanted to put two more names
on the wall.
Speaker 8 1:00:47
You have been listening to Rose Tyler the dimension cannon trapped the lower road
by TIM FOLEY. Rose Tyler was played by Billie Piper, Danny M Fein Laura, Heather,
Coombs, Minton, Cleo, Sylvester, Lex, Chelsea little. All other parts were played
by members of the cast. Director Helen Goldwyn script editor, Matt Fitton, sound
design, Joe Kramer and Aiden van leer, Kramer music, Joe Kramer, producer Emily
Cook, executive producers, Nicholas Briggs and Jason Haig Ellery.
Speaker 9 1:01:44
Hi, my name is Tim Foley, and I'm the writer of the lower road.
Speaker 2 1:01:48
Are you lost right now? If we don't have a guy, not the same thing?
Speaker 9 1:01:57
I had a great time zooming with Lizzie, Helen, Matt, and Emily. In the early days
when we were sort of fleshing out what this world was going to look like who these
characters were going to be, and became clear that I was gonna write the middle
episode. And the middle episode, I think sometimes can be a bit tricky, because
you're dealing with what you get from episode one, you need to be heading towards
episode three. So there's always the risk of this story, feeling disposable, when I
think actor with any story has to be the one that, you know, gets deeper into the
theme starts to crystallize what the story is about. So I approached this story
knowing it was going to be something of a pivot from episode one to episode three,
but ensuring that we were keeping what we wanted to do front and center. And I
think the key thing was it this is a story about mothers and children. Now
obviously, Rose isn't old enough to be Danny's mother. But there's something about
you know, the events of Episode One in Lizzie story. That Rose is left in loco
parentis, as it were with Danny. And so it's about showing different societies
showing different mothers. Seeing how rose thrived in those situations and the
difficult decisions she'd have to make
Speaker 3 1:03:16
for travel? You're gonna find it out here regardless. Find out those burned out
buildings there.
Speaker 8 1:03:38
Hi, I'm Helen Goldwyn. And I'm the director of Rose Tyler the dimension canon
volume three.
Unknown Speaker 1:03:43
Episode Two is the lower road by TIM FOLEY. We've loved working with him. It's a
brilliant script. I absolutely love Laura and Lex as characters. I was talking to
Chelsea ditto and Heather goons about this. You play Lex and Laura. And it's quite
sweet. I was there the moment the two of them met and they sort of clocked each
other and said aren't playing your mom, I'm playing your daughter. And then they
started bonding and they were absolutely brilliant. And I think they're such well
written characters well rounded characters. And yeah, Chelsea and Heather just
absolutely went for it and some amazing death cries
Speaker 8 1:04:23
was I think that I said to Heather, you know, I had to think about who could play
that part. And of course, I know a lot of actresses in their in that age bracket.
But I don't know many that have got the subtlety and the layers and the nuance that
Heather can bring to it. It she's such an intelligent actor. And when she first
started, it's all very, it's all quite straightforward that Lara seems to be what
she appears to be. And then gradually it's unveiled this very twisted version of
morality that she's had to develop. And there's that emotional cost Conflict of,
you know, what is the right thing to do? What would we do in Laura's position? Is
there something wrong with her? Or is she actually just trying to do the right
thing? I think Tim created a very intriguing moral, ethical debate there.
Speaker 2 1:05:13
from her point of views. This is like, trying to live on a raft in the middle of
that Laura says it's peaceful, peaceful, after what it did to mum, and she's the
only one you saw change your new hair, you don't know how the stuff could shredded
to pieces.
Speaker 3 1:05:35
So Laura is the leader of the community. And she feels she's got a great deal of
responsibility on her hands, Laura meets rose out in the wilderness. And she's
actually on her way to look for somebody else entirely different. She's on the way
to look for a daughter. And she's got a terrible burden that she's holding within
herself. She has responsibilities that she can't, she can't share with other people
because they're fairly abhorrent responsibilities. And so she's holding a lot in at
the beginning, she's holding a lot in and trying to keep control of everyone around
her. I don't feel that she would have chosen this life being the leader of the
community. I think it's fallen on her perhaps, from whoever was community leader
before. So I think she's ended up being the leader and suffering in her soul
because of it really, Lex
Speaker 6 1:06:31
is Laura's wayward daughter, shall we say the least. And she's very stubborn, quite
brash, and quite abrasive at times. But I think she does embody a lot of the power
and strength of Lara. But I really liked her. She's quite a complex character in
the sense that there's still a lot of naivety fear, nervousness, because she's
still young and feels quite betrayed. There's a lot of mistrust in there. So she's
not necessarily what you think she is I
Speaker 2 1:07:12
Hi, my name is Anne, Thane and I play Danny, I mean, with with this script, it's so
many different layers going on. And something that I really enjoyed, sort of when
you when you're reading it for the first time it sort of like, or like all these
little plot twists around the corner and finding out more about Lauren. You know,
there's complexity there. And she has to make this really, oh, my gosh, you know,
the hardest decisions you could ever make and sacrificing her own daughters, you
know, crazy, but you just think, oh, you know, she must be completely soulless
person. But that, you know, that's not necessarily true. And so I think the thing
that stuck out for me was all these, the nuances and the the real, literal life and
death struggle here that you come to discover throughout throughout the story.
Speaker 3 1:08:01
We even brought you extra supplies for your onward journey, trying to fob us off. I
haven't got time for this. If you won't come willingly, let's get away from her.
That one has a bad foot stamp on it. No. I think one of the things about this is
that this is a universe where everything's gone wrong, you know, the world is being
torn apart. And so people are making horrific decisions. Laura won't be the only
one doing that. I think. I don't think she's soulless in any way. I think she loves
Lex just think she's also thinking of the 80 other families that are there. And I
guess, you know, if Lex doesn't make that sacrifice, then she will, the whole
community will fall apart. And that's 80 families grieving or dead. So I don't
know. It's absolutely I read this with my daughter last night, and she had some
very hard questions for me. And I'm just glad I'm not really in Laura's position
because I don't think I could be as brave as her. I think she's hugely brave. My
daughter's questions. The very, very pertinent question was well, so what would you
do mom? That was exactly what she asked me. To the point. I'm not answering that
questions. Twins are good. You all have I said, No, I didn't.
Speaker 6 1:09:30
I agree. I think Laura's character. I don't want to say a lovable villain. But
she's an understandable villain. You You don't want to like her. But you can also
understand how she has gotten to the position that she's in that has made her make
those choices. And I agree with them and that the whole plot of the scene alone
goes on so many different trajectories. I lit when I first read the script, I did
not know where it was gonna go and that's so exciting to be part of but also to
listen to, to not have a clear vision of where it's gonna end anything. Guess what,
Doctor Who does so well as you think it's gonna go one way. And then it completely
changes its direction and you're like even the characters you think you build a
picture of a character and then they show a whole other dimension to themselves and
you're like, wow, I wasn't expecting that on. So I thought the script was really
fun. A lot of potential.
Speaker 4 1:10:16
If I didn't know better, I'd say you wanted to hug. Luckily, you do know me better.
No sign of lexan I'm never gonna find Laura.
Speaker 4 1:10:29
My name is clear. Sylvest man playing Minton. Well, she's a paramedic. And she is
very outrights. Very says what she thinks doesn't take fools gladly. And she's
actually, it turns out during the episode that she's Laura's mother, I was totally
surprised. Actually. It was It came as I hadn't expected it. I thought maybe.
Thought maybe they might be lovers. But, um, yeah. So it did come as a revelation.
This particular story I thought was fascinating. It had so many elements in it, it
made me um, it's quite scary at times. And then there's the sort of humanity about
it as well. People trying to sort of help each other.
Speaker 3 1:11:27
Yeah, it's actually been rather lovely. Personally, in the middle of this sort of
trio, because clear is my mum. And with lovely Chelsea here as well. It's been a
lot of fun, hasn't it? I
Speaker 6 1:11:39
honestly had the best time. And yeah, first of all, just so grateful to be here.
And then also to watch you perform. And everyone here, there's just so much talent
in the room, and it's just really nice to be amongst that. And everybody's just so
nice. We're all lovely. She's gonna make me her own daughter, bumping us off one by
one. You don't know what she's willing to do? A place like that requires a
sacrifice. That's what she always says. You need to hide. I am hiding.
Speaker 8 1:13:19
Yes, it's been one of the best parts of this has been seeing that relationship
between Danny and Rose evolve. And also specifically seeing Fein playing that role.
And growing through the process over the three days, I mean, they started off I
could see that they were nervous, and, and the first day of recording I had to kind
of really pull quite a lot more out of them than they knew they had. And then as
the time went on, it's particularly today day three of recording it was so
fantastic to see them stretching their full range really experimenting with vocal
techniques and and dynamics and I felt quite maternal myself I felt like there had
been something nurtured there that hopefully they'll take away and use in all of
their their acting thereafter.
Speaker 2 1:14:16
I hope you get away soon rose I don't want this place. Poisoning you. You're so
pure in my mind. Despite the chaos you're a point of calmness.
Speaker 2 1:14:32
Mum used to say I was chaos personified. Well, first of all, it's been a real
slightly surreal experience, obviously, you know, working with with Billy and being
in the same, you know, recording studio as each other working together, but then
she's in a separate booth so you can't quite see her. It's sort of you're just
listening and it's Oh, but it's it's been so lovely. I mean, she's amazing at what
she does over Nestle and I'm learning so much offer. So first of all, that's just
been a brilliant experience for me. Yeah, in terms of, of Danny and Rose, their
relationship now is really starting to get they're becoming closer and it was
really lovely today to have those first moments where, you know, they're fully
trusting each other I think now and fully well just becoming more comfortable with
each other. You know, at the beginning of the episode, there's, you know, tension
Danny's just lost their mother still couple days ago. It's all very difficult
circumstances and you know, they, you know, roses still a stranger. But by the end
of this episode, they're much closer. And that's just been really lovely to have
that journey through this episode, where they've relied on each other. More and
more, you know, they've saved each other multiple times. Now
