2020 INNOVATION
& GLOBALIZATION

With the Paris Agreement coming into force, initiatives to realize a low-carbon society have been
launched globally. This has led energy-saving and refrigerant regulations in the air conditioner
industry to accelerate and grow more diverse, spurring technological innovation. We at Fujitsu
General—with our advanced energy-saving technologies—see this as an excellent opportunity to set
ourselves apart from other companies.
As a manufacturer, Fujitsu General has continued to grow as technology advances and innovative
technologies emerge. Through product development, we have generated a large number of
advanced products by being the first in the world or in our industry to put many technologies into
practical use. Instead of searching for short-term outcomes, we will continue to focus our efforts
on R&D, looking ten years and even twenty years ahead, as we endeavor to create new value
based on pioneering, innovative technologies.
In light of these circumstances, we will strive to deliver tomorrow’s wonderful solutions that do
not yet exist to people worldwide, thereby enhancing their lives and businesses with the power
of innovation in accordance with our medium-term management policy for 2020, which has the
slogan of “Innovation & Globalization.”
Innovation is born from a chemical reaction that occurs between things of different natures. We
aim to engage in co-creation activities through which we respect each other’s differences and
generate innovation together on a global scale regardless of differences in nationality, race,
gender, age, or sense of values. The basic direction for our company to aim for is the activity President
Etsuro Saito
focusing on actual situation in the local site while having global viewpoint, that is “Glocalization”.
Through the expansion of Information & Communication Systems and Electronic Devices
businesses, which provide quality fire and disaster prevention systems and vehicle-mounted
cameras, as well as the air conditioner business, which is our core business, we aim to be a group
of companies that give peace, richness, smile in the hearts of people all over the world.
In an attempt to achieve these goals and through management to think of and make use of
persons, we will brush up and enhance 3 powers of “Technological power, realization power,
human power” , further accelerate business development; and continue to generate business
innovation into the future.

FUJITSU GENERAL 3
We bring air to people.
Fujitsu General air conditioners provide true comfort with clean and comfortable air
perfect for the time and place for which they are designed.

Air Conditioners

1960 Our air conditioner business began in 1960 with the launch of our first
1971 50 consumer-use window air conditioner in Japan. In 1971, we expanded into
the Middle East (Kuwait). We quickly built a reputation as a high quality air
conditioner brand that delivers stable performance even in sandstorm-prone
regions with ambient temperatures exceeding 50°C. Over the following
half-century, we successfully earned high market shares in Japan, Europe,
Oceania, and the Middle East by continually applying innovative ideas and
cutting-edge technology to improve our products’ environmental resistance—
all thanks to our unique structural designs and control technologies that
2016 8
deliver high energy-saving performance. We are now striving to expand our
Rheem
sales in the Americas and Asia.
Positioning North America in particular as a key market, we partnered with
Rheem Manufacturing Company, a leading air conditioner and water heater
maker in the US, and started supplying products to each other in August
2016. We will further strengthen this cooperative relationship in terms of
VRF joint product development, sourcing, production, and so forth to maximize
synergy through collaboration by making the most of the two companies’
resources.
As the air conditioner market continues to grow, we will expand our
lineup of home and commercial products—from small air conditioners for
residential use to commercial air conditioners and multi air conditioning
systems for buildings (VRF). We will continue to expand and strengthen our
air conditioner business by raising our unique strengths in commercial air
conditioner products to an even higher level. Going forward, we will focus
on strengthening our lineup to meet each global region’s various needs and
AL-6500C
raising our element technology (that will play a role in responding to global
AL-6500C, the first Fujitsu General air

providing our customers with comfortable living environments; and playing a
responsible role in showing concern for the environment.

R&D organization
We have three technology development centers around the world: the
FUJITSU GENERAL ENGINEERING
Kawasaki Head Office, Fujitsu General (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., and Fujitsu
3
General Engineering (Thailand). At each center, we perform durability testing
in test environments that simulate extremely hot and cold environments
in order to develop even more cutting-edge technologies. We also continue
4 to actively invest in our development and testing facilities—such as adding
calorimetric measurement rooms to measure the latest high-capacity air
conditioners. Moreover, we will further enhance efforts launched in April
last year to achieve strategic, concurrent development of technology while
4 R&D continuing to strengthen and improve our R&D bases to generate a stream of
unique products.
In April this year, we established new R&D centers in North America and
Europe, thus accelerating collaboration with local companies.

Air Conditioners

Home air conditioners

We are leveraging our innovative ideas and cutting-edge technological
strengths to develop air conditioners that provide comfort and energy-saving.
1985 We have led our competition by being the first to introduce innovative
1988 features such as the “Double-blow Flap” (1985) that controls the amount
of air being blown, the “Human Sensor” (1988) that saves energy by
eliminating unnecessary operation, the “Lambda Heat Exchanger” (1991)
1991 1995
that is compact without sacrificing energy efficiency, the “Power Diffuser”
1999 (1995), and the “Front Flat Panel” (1999) that allows for more efficient air
intake.
2003 ™ In 2003, we were the first in the industry to set the trend for high-end
air conditioners that include automatic filter cleaners, with our “nocria™”
brand of home air conditioners equipped with “Automatic Self-cleaning
Filter System” (2003) technology, resulting from our pursuit of customer
convenience and the high regard for the ability of our products to maintain a
high level of energy saving performance.

Fujitsu General’s signature room air conditioner series is “nocria®,” which is

Automatic Self-cleaning Filter System “aircon” (short for “air conditioner”) spelled backwards. As the name suggests,
Simply brush to remove the dust on the filter
the series aims to defy conventional wisdom on air conditioners. After
releasing the first air conditioner in the industry featuring the “Automatic
Self-cleaning Filter System,” in 2008 we launched “nocria S.” As the smallest
nocria® commercial air conditioner on the market, it has become synonymous with
aircon compact air conditioners. We have also already launched “nocria X,” which
features the “DUAL BLASTER” feature that controls heating/cooling and room
2008 S temperature currents. This provides customers with comfortable heating
X and cooling that reaches every corner of the room—even with a conservative
setting. The unique technologies we have developed with the “nocria” series
DUAL BLASTER
can even be found in the highly acclaimed air conditioners we sell overseas.

Commercial air conditioners

We continue to expand and strengthen our lineup of commercial air
conditioners. Our multi air conditioning systems can connect several indoor
units to a single outdoor unit, allowing users to reduce the space required
X for the outdoor unit. These systems are particularly popular with shops and
nocria X with DUAL BLASTER (side fan) offices in urban areas in Europe, where consideration must be paid to the
technology scenery. Among strict energy-saving regulations, we leverage the ability
of our products to save energy through finely controlling the temperature
of each room (in contrast with traditional products which cool the entire
building), in an effort to promote adoption of these products in small-to-
medium buildings and commercial facilities in the North American market.
1 Since its launch in 2001, our “AIRSTAGE™” series of multi air conditioning
systems for buildings (VRF) has continued to gain popularity as we expand
the lineup with products that suit the needs of each region, such as Europe,
Australia, the Americas, and China. In order to meet the need for features
such as excellent energy efficiency, exceptional design versatility, and more
comfortable current control,
we will continue to strengthen
2001 VRF AIRSTAGE™ our development of multi
air conditioning systems
for buildings that integrate
our advanced refrigerating
cycle technology and comfort
control systems, and attempt
to expand our share in the AIRSTAGE V-
world market. “AIRSTAGE V-III” multi air conditioning system for

Launching Energy-saving, Compact Multi Air Conditioning

Systems in North America
1 8 In the North American air conditioner market, we launched the
AIRSTAGE J- S “AIRSTAGE” J-IIS series multi air conditioning system, which can connect
up to eight indoor units to a single outdoor unit. By adding to our
J- S
product lineup the J-IIS series that features high energy-saving efficiency
and compact outdoor units, we have strengthened our ability to make
proposals to small stores and offices as well as to small condominiums
and single-family homes, accelerating efforts to cultivate the North
American market.

Improving the technology of core parts (compressors & heat exchangers)

To survive in the global air conditioner market, where technological
competition to achieve energy savings, comfort, cold weather resistance,
and environmental friendliness is intensifying, we are focusing on
improving the technologies used in core parts.
To improve compressors, we are striving to realize a cutting-edge design
to completely reduce friction loss in the rotating part and fluid loss from
refrigerant gas as well as to develop a parts processing technology with
micron order precision to achieve such a design. We have also designed
a unique drive circuit that makes maximal use of advanced electronic
parts for inverters as part of our continued efforts to enhance energy
savings and reduce noise.
In addition to compressors, heat exchangers also affect air conditioners’
energy-saving performance. By using high-density refrigerant pipes and
heat exchanger fins, we achieve heat exchangers that are both small

R&D on radio communication equipment

Regarding the digitization of radio, we acted quickly to realize a

DSP modulation-demodulation section for digital signal processing
using a digital signal processor (DSP). We ensured high reliability by
improving performance and reducing the number of parts. We also
focus on technology for improving the efficiency of high frequency
power amplifiers. A portable transceiver for fire and ambulance
1W services with a 5W output that we developed was well received
5W because it is the only such transceiver in the industry, as it was
difficult to achieve a transmission output of more than 1W due to
radiation and battery capacity limitations.
2017 By further reducing power consumption, in 2017 we achieved
2/3 a compact size of approximately two-thirds the volume of the
previous model (photo on the left). We will continue to develop
new technologies and products, such as digital signal processing for
modulation/demodulation and high frequency power amplifiers.

2017 12 Hamamatsu business office
As represented by its recycling business and repair departments, the
Hamamatsu business office focuses on businesses that closely relate to
reducing social and environmental burdens. In addition to such businesses,
we plan to introduce renewable energy (solar power) at the office in
December 2017, positioning it as a symbolic of environmentally friendly
business offices.
By establishing a biotope, we help preserve indigenous species in the
neighboring areas and actively hold plant tours. We also use the biotope as
a place to deepen people’s understanding about reducing environmental
burdens through Japan’s home appliance recycling system.
