PROJECT TITLE: A HOME MADE FAN

PRESENTOR:NIMANYA RUTHY

PROBLEM STATEMENT.
Due to the high temperatures caused as a result of global climate change , people living in poorly
ventilated houses are affected by death, inability to do work well and uncomfortable living.
As a result it has been deemed necessary to come up with a design of a cheap home made fan.

HOW THE IDEA WAS CONCEIVED.

 By observing the resources in society that are available and yet not exploited.
 Based on how much wastes like boxes and Jerry-cans are dumped in the environment
causing pollution of soil and the environment generally.
 Fans are highly demanded by people in society so we made the fan to meet this need of
people

RATIONALE
A home-made fan is based on the knowledge of electromagnetism in physics that is on the flow
of current aided by dry cells to the wires of the motor producing electric energy that is converted
to mechanical energy / dynamic energy. This causes the motor to move with the propellers to
produce fresh air. The fresh air helps people to work in a more comfortable environment.

OBJECTIVES
At the end of this project, the following objectives will be attained;
1. To help people to get fans at an affordable price.
2. To reduce on the rate of disposal of wastes like papers and plastics
which pollute the environment.
3. To exploit the available yet not used resources that is motors from old Radios as
well as boxes and used Jerry-cans from the environment.

MATERIALS USED
 Boxes
 4 pieces of wood
 3 motors
 3 plastic propellers
 Sellotape
 Glue
 Wires
 6 dry cells
 Switch
 Universal Serial Bus port

PROCEDURES
 The 4 pieces of wood were joined to obtain a firm frame.
 The 2 hard boxes were joined together to the frame to form a hard base.
 3 smaller pieces of box with holes were attached so as to fix the motors firmly in the
holes. These were then fixed to the base.
 The wires from the cells were connected to the switch and then to the motor .
 Sellotape was used to stick all the wires to the base. The holes where motors were fixed
were then cut out.
 Plastic propellers were then fixed to the motors.
 With the switch closed, the circuit is completed and this sets the propellers in motion.
 Alternatively, the cells can be substituted with a Universal Serial Bus port and connected
to electricity.

RISK
Operating a DC motor at voltages outside of its specified
range can lead to inefficiency, overheating, and potential damage to the motor.

PRECAUTION
One should always handle the fan with care and keep it in dry places.

Finally ,the home made fan will cost sh.25,000 after an investment of sh.16,500 of which we
had invested as follows;
Charts @ UGX 1,000 shillings
Sellotape @ UGX 3,000 shillings
Wire mesh @ UGX 2,000 shillings
Motors @ UGX 3,000 shillings
Wires @ UGX 1,000 shillings
Dry cells @ UGX 7,500 shillings
Total cost = UGX 16,500 shillings
Hence the profit made will be UGX 8,500 shillings
