What is Web Hosting?


It is a service that authorizes individuals and organizations to make their website available on
the Internet. A web host, or web hosting provider, is any person or company that delivers the
services and technologies that are essential to the website or web page to be viewed.

Types of Web Hosting


Shared web hosting - Easiest and most common type. Shares multiple sites on the
same server.
Dedicated web hosting - Allows you to have full control of your web server, only one
website is hosted in one server.
Virtual Private Server (VPS) web hosting - This acts like a dedicated server in a
shared hosting environment. Uses multiple servers to host one website giving it
more flexibility and resources.
Colocation Hosting - Instead of renting online server space, these services allow
you to rent out the whole physical setup. This is for companies who do not want to
spend money on hosting their own server and instead will just outsource that whole
section of their business to another company. This is the most expensive option.

Web Presence - “If you can be found over the internet in at least one location such as a web
page”. “You exist. You’re there.”
Online Presence - “If you are on the internet and can communicate or interact with others”.

Exposure, in this age of computers and connectivity, means just about anyone with a computing
device has the capacity to see the information about you in the form of content that’s readily
accessible with the use of technology and these are text, images, video.

Online Analytics – the use of analyzed existing or simulated future data to develop realistic
decisions for future actions. Web analytics enables you to get an idea of such things as the kind
of people who visit your website.

ANALYTICS that matter


1. Visits – Count of the times a specific visitor loads a page of your site. If this is high, then
that visitor has a specific interest in what your site has to offer
2. Page Views – the number of time a website has been loaded in a browser in a particular
time period. If this number is high but the time on page is low, then something is wrong
with your site.
3. Bounce rate – this tracks the number of terminated visits after a least one page loads.
4. Time on Page (ToP) – how long a visitor stays on one page on a site before moving on to
another page of the same site.
5. View/Visit Ratio (VVR) – simply the number of pageviews divided by the number of visits
to a website. Gives the average time of a visit in terms of content consumption.

● Refers to a person utilizing information technology (IT) in order to engage in society,
politics, and government - It is also defined as “those who use the internet regularly
and effectively”

● Defined as the norms of appropriate, responsible behavior with regard to technology use.

1. Digital Access (Full electronic participation in society)
- Equal digital rightness and access to information to become productive not for
doing harm.
2. Digital Etiquette (The standards of conduct expected by other digital technology users)
- Rules and policies should be followed when using information found on the net
as well as communication with other users.
3. Digital Law (The legal rights and restriction governing technology use full electronic
participation in society)
- Users must take the responsibility for their actions while using the technology
and manifest ethical use and not causing damage to another

4. Digital Communication (Electronic Exchange of information)


- Users need to learn how to make appropriate decisions as to what and how to
appropriately use a specific technology for effective communication.
