Synopsys:

Miriam "Midge" Maisel is a housewife living in New York City in 1958. Her husband, Joel,
is a businessman who moonlights as a struggling comedian at The Gaslight Cafe. One night,
after a particularly unsuccessful performance as a stand-up comedian, Joel confesses to Midge
that he has been having an affair and leaves her. After drinking too much wine, Midge returns to
the Gaslight Cafe and impulsively goes on stage, delivering an impromptu set about her
predicament which the audience finds hilarious. Another comedian, Lenny Bruce, warns Midge
that the comedy business is terrible, but Midge takes his warning as encouragement and teams
up with Susie, a comedy club employee, to hone her act.

Overall Review:

Here I will mention about those scenarios of this drama series what will help me
to highlight about similarities and dissimilarities of the visual story plot in the contrast of
life of Bangladeshi women.

Maisel is an optimist Jewish woman who is living in very emotionally and

physically comfortable life with her perfect husband, two kids and an accomplished
house in upper town of New York. She had a love marriage experience against her
family and her husband’s name was Joel, a good businessmen. The troubles begun,
when Joel left Miriam just because he fell in an affair with his personal secretary. At that
moment of time she was going through very frustrated emotional life what lead her to
committing many mistakes in her life.

Miriam Maisel had a hard time of life as a single mom back in his father’s home,
one day she discover her hidden talent on standup comedy what was going to change
her life. Her parents did not support her as a standup comedian. She had to face very
cruel behavior from her mother when she was listening to the audio of comedy practice
on the radio. She was also responsible for both of her and kid’s financial necessities
because her father was more economically supportive for her brother than her.

This is why Maisel had to look for work to support herself as single mother, what
would bring her on the stage of standup comedy. As a professional comedian there was
no proper time schedule and she had to visit many different places of city, it takes away
all sort of comfortableness from her life. Especially when her conservative Jewish father
did not allow his daughter to stay outside of the home at the middle of the night. Tough
condition of her life made her very rough and tough in many times, she had face court
and police various time. As a typical Jewish girl she was supposed to be lead very
house and family centered life but cruelty of life made her exposed.
Similarities:

1. As a Jewish single mother living in parents home it was very disrespectful for
Mrs. Maisel. We can encounter same scenario in the life of Bangladeshi
divorced mother living in father’s home.
2. Mrs. Maisel had less mobility in her professional life just because of her
orthodox Jewish family background. In the context religious families of
Bangladesh we will find exact same obstacle for a woman who is working
outside for money.
3. After breakup in marriage life with two kids Mrs. Maisel had to support both
herself and children with a very little help of her parents. In this case we will
see similar stories in the life of Bangladeshi single mother as well.
4. Mrs. Maisel was also unable to get proper judicial support from local judge
and she had also difficulties to meet proper justice just because she’s a
women. In Bangladesh women has also to go with very vulnerable condition
when they seek for help in traditional law enforcement system.
5. If we look at the emotional conditions of Mrs. Maisel from the beginning till the
end, then we will also see how she used react during her good times to bad
times. Here I would say there has an existence of universal similarities in
women feelings that we can relate.

Dissimilarities:

1. When Mrs. Maisel gets angry for reason there she had many things to express
her anger, but in Bangladesh women can hardly express their anger in right
situation.
2. The uncompromising characteristics of Mrs. Maisel, what helped her to establish
herself in this cruel society. But in this country sometimes it became tough to find
such a women just because of internal and external pressure.
3. The way Mrs. Maisel handled her life it could be a reflection of American culture
in that frame of time. If we think about Bangladesh in exact same time frame then
it would be impossible for a Bangladeshi woman to do so just because of
massive cultural differences.
