STATEMENT OF TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
During my Ph.D study, I had the opportunity to teach undergraduate students as a seasoned part-time
language and business lecturer at Anhui Institute of International Business, Hefei, China in 2021 and 2022 fall
semester. This chance to serve as an international intern helped me gain more teaching experience.
Working as a lecturer at the Institute, I gained more teaching experience in Business ethics, Oral English and
English countries survey as I was assigned to teach the undergraduate first year students. Since 2021, the satisfaction
I gained from imparting knowledge to others propelled me to volunteer as a tutor for first year at the University of
Science and Technology of China (USTC). I tutor them on Quantitative and Qualitative Research Method and how to
use some softwares such as SPSS and AMOS which enhance them to produce effective research during my PhD study.
With these teaching experiences also came tremendous opportunities to mentor students on interpersonal relationships
and leadership skills from my experience. As a Ph.D candidate at UTSC, I have also volunteered for 3 consecutive
years to assist and orient International students on balancing their social and academic life, this skill alongside my
academic prowess has equipped me for the duties of a course advisor.
I am deeply interested in the management education of undergraduate and graduate students. My desire is to
be a significant representation to emulate as well as a guardian for my students, I will avail them the audience and
resources for tackling management in class by providing the opportunity to pilot their learning, given that most
students long to predominantly champion their educational successes. I ultimately want to create favorable
circumstances for them to develop these capabilities while attending my class.
Interestingly, the effect of a conducive learning environment cannot be overemphasized. As a foundational
philosophy of mine, I ensure that before teaching I stress my believe that every human being is highly capable of
learning and high performance mirrors our efforts regardless of the diversities that economically and naturally exist.
Part of my introductory strategies will be to ascertain the English proficiency of my students because effective
communication is key to carry all my students along. By so doing, equity in language speaking is established right
early. I will further encourage my students to interact with each other while in my class by occasionally issuing group
assignments when necessary to fosters teamwork, enlarges individual intellectual breadth, improves personal
communication skills and encourages students to embrace the unique positive diversity amongst them. The aim is for
students to gradually learn that every students enrolled in American University of Sharjah is endowed with quality
attributes and soft skills that can benefit everybody no matter the differences. I intend to use my position as a teaching
Assistant Professor to create avenues that aid my students in harnessing their diverse potential. Another teaching
philosophy of mine will be to acknownlege and encourage students that demonstrate exceptional academic excellence,
however, there must be sensitivity for the emotions of others, compassion and understanding. Caution must be
observed to prevent inference of race, culture or other differences linkage to certain academic prowess and capacity.
Stating that students from a particular ethnic group do better in class or extracurricular activities will amount to
segregation that would generate negative emotions in the students from other ethnic groups.
Also, I intend to apply the drag-back entry behavior method during my teaching to promote comprehension.
I will start from the abstract to the concrete while teaching the concept/theory of management with trending industry
examples. Should I be hired for this position, for the first class I hope to assess students expectation and levels with a
simple online questionnaire to ascertain their differences to help them accordingly. I would tailor the scheme of work
to meet the average level of the majority of the students, this might require teaching some foundational topics to
explain the challenging management concepts to achieve parity in the class. Once, I establish a fair balance in the
scheme covered by every students, then I can proceed to teaching the course. During my studies, my lecturers and
mentors have implored this method to teach me, which have been very effective. I implored this method when I learn
a concept at a higher level, I try to acquire the foundational knowledge first before furthering to the relevant knowledge
that will enable me tackle the higher-level concept.
Another strategy I will employ to booster equal participation among students is generalizing questions
without necessarily singling out individuals to provide answers to the questions. By this, every student is given an
equal opportunity to attempt to answer questions. This will encourage every student to take part in answering questions
while avoiding derogatory remarks when a learner gets the answer wrong. I use graceful and encouraging words to
spur the student to an excellent performance in the future.
For out-of-classroom teaching activities such as workshops, field trips, excursions, symposiums and
conferences, I will present an approachable and friendly demeanor to all my students. This implies giving my students
equal opportunity to gain hands-on knowlege without any forms of limited assess to me. In addition, I will ensure that
all my students are taught how to apply foundational theories to attain their research prowess without prejudice.
