CO2 Applications
Carbon dioxide (chemical formula CO2) is a colorless and odorless gas that is vital to life on Earth.
Chart is the world's leading manufacturer of bulk CO2 systems for the carbonated beverage and swimming pool
markets. Serving a variety of usage requirements, the bulk CO2 Carbo-Series systems meet the unique needs of
every customer and application.

Beverage Carbonation Systems are a safe and reliable substitute for high pressure cylinders. Chart complete
beverage solutions have proven to reduce the risk of costly run-outs allowing you to focus on spending more time
with your customers. Uninterrupted flow of CO2 eliminates flat drinks and ensures proper drink calibration.
Perfect soda dispensing presentation increases customer satisfaction and eliminates complaints of poor taste
and flat beverages.

Micro-Breweries Systems for CO2 and LN2 provide a wide range of high capacity, high flow rate beverage
grade CO2 and LN2 for establishments from the smallest brew pub to full scale breweries. Ideal solution for
Restaurants, Bars & Brew Pubs, Stadiums & Sports Arenas.

Swimming Pool Systems CO2 provide bulk gas for swimming pool pH balancing. CO2 is the safest, most reliable
alternative to using acid to balance the pH level of chlorinated water. CO2 is easily regulated by an automatic
control system, providing several benefits. Maintaining the desired water pH level is critical to ensure swimmers'
safety and reduce pool operator maintenance costs. A more stable pH level secures a drop in corrosion and
overhaul costs. CO2 forms a mild carbonic acid that helps maintain alkalinity and also means that there is
a significant reduction in the contribution to totally dissolved solids levels resulting in less water replacement and
a cut in energy costs.

Water treatment solutions mainly to balance the pH level of chlorinated water for desalination plants.

CO2 Applications
Chemical Industry:
It is used as a raw material in the chemical process industry, especially for urea and methanol production.

Metals Industry:
It is used in the manufacture of casting, influences so as to enhance their hardness. CO2 dosing system cools
down machining tools.

Refrigeration:
CO2 is used as a source of dry ice for food storage purposes and as a cooling medium for insulated
thermocontainers to make it possible to transport chilled or frozen products. In shape of ice pellets it is used for
short blasting.

Fire Extinguishers:
CO2 for fire extinguishing purposes.

Solvent:
Liquid CO2 is considered as a good dissolving agent for many organic compounds. Here it can be used to remove
caffeine from coffee.

Plants:
Plants require CO2 to execute photosynthesis, and greenhouses promote plant growth with additional CO2.
5

CO2 Applications
Pressured Gas:
It is used as the cheapest noncombustible pressurized gas. Pressured CO2 are inside tins in life jackets.
Compressed CO2 gas is used in paintball markers, air guns, for ballooning bicycle tires.

Medicine:
In medicine, up to 5% CO2 is added to pure oxygen. This helps in provoking breathing and to stabilize the O2/CO2
balance in blood.

CO2 Laser:
The CO2 laser, a common type of industrial gas laser uses CO2 as a medium.

Welding:
CO2 also finds its use as an atmosphere for welding.

Oil Wells:
Carbon dioxide is commonly injected into or next to producing oil wells to draw lost traces of crude oil.

Special Effects:
CO2 is used for special effects in the entertainment industry together with a variety of fog (haze) machines.

Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP):

As a part of the gas mixture with nitrogen it is used in packing of red meat, poultry, seafood, convenience food and
diary products to prolong their shelf-life.

The Carbo Series System

Serving a variety of markets and usage requirements, Carbo Series bulk CO2 systems meet the unique demands
of every customer.

Carbo Series systems eliminate CO2 run-outs, allowing your accounts to focus on customer sales rather than op-
erations. One Carbo Series bulk system meets all of your customer's CO2 requirements. The vessel requires no
employee handling, continuously supplying CO2 for a variety of applications.

The system is economically feasible for implementation in accounts with annual CO2 consumption as of 600 kg of
CO2 per year, going up to 800 kg - 1000 kg and above. Properly organized supplies assume that the Chart
standard 2000 l CO2 delivery unit makes a round trip in 2-3 days, servicing 15-20 delivery points per trip with one
location being served /refilled at least once per month or month and a half. Delivery radius between end user CO2
locations and a CO2 filing point can reach as much as 170 km. Through the models range of delivery units Chart in
Europe can support CO2 distributors with delivery capabilities for start-ups of up to 20 CO2 delivery points in a
network and above.

Some of successful European examples of Carbo Series System implementation on a national level
demonstrate, that the CO2 delivery system consisting of 14 delivery units with volumes of 1000 and 2000 l can
support the network of 2500 delivery points.
