37. Chemical reaction involves chemical changes in which new substances with new properties are formed
when two or more substances react with each other. Combination, decomposition (thermal. electrical
and photochemical), displacement, double displacement (precipitation), redox (oxidation and reduction)
are various type of chemical reactions. Corrosion and rancidity are effects of chemical reactions in our
everyday life.
(a) Ferrous sulphate decomposes with the evolution of a gas having characteristic odour of burning
sulphur. Write the chemical reaction involved and identify the type of chemical reaction.
(b) Which gas is liberated when zinc metal reacts with hydrochloric acid and how will you it?
(c) Why does the colour of copper sulphate solution change when an iron nail is dipped in .What type of
reaction is it? Write the chemical reaction involved in it.
38. If we cross-bred tall (dominant) pea plant with pure-bred dwarf (recessive) pea plants, we will have F1

39. The growing size of the human population is a cause of concern for all people. The rate of birth and
death in a given population will determine its size. Reproduction is the process by which organisms
increase their population. The process of sexual maturation for reproduction is gradual and takes place
while general body growth is still going on. Some degree of sexual maturation does not necessarily
mean that the mind or body is ready for sexual acts for having and bringing up children. Various
contraceptive devices are being used by human beings to control the size of population.
