Artist biography

Isijola damilare joseph is a practicing artist born in lagos state. He is a


painter and an illustrator based in lagos. He undertook his
apprenticeship at ayoola sodade art studio prior to his academic
training. He studied fine art and majored in painting at yaba college of
technology , lagos, Nigeria.
Damilare was mentored by renowned contemporary artists Ayoola
Sodade, Damilola Opedun, Sir Kenny (ken aesthetic studio).
He is a multimedia artist, damilare works in multiple mediums which
includes oil paint, charcoal, digital software. He has been able to
establish that talent is not enough to be considered an artist, it requires
continuous development of skill and dedication.
Damilare has been involved in numerous art projects and commissions
over the duration of his practices.
He is mostly known for his exceptionally unique ability to depicts
realism in his work in a most naturalistic manner, which engages the
viewer, offering them a glimpse into his perception of reality, through
figurative expression which his works primarily present.

This drawing depicts a female cellist practicing some musical notations
in an indoor living room settings. It inspired by one of Amedeo
Modigliani’s painting titled the cellist.
