ACCOMPLISHMENT COMPLETION IN
FILIPINO VALUES MONTH
The celebration of Filipino Values Month this year focused on the theme “Pagsulong ng Bagong
Pilipinas: Ang Kabataan Bilang Pundasyon ng Pagbabago” (Advancing a New Philippines: The Youth
as the Foundation of Change). This theme highlighted the critical role of Filipino youth in the nation’s
development and transformation. It emphasized how the values of bayanihan (community spirit),
pagmamahal sa kalikasan (love for nature), paggalang (respect), and pagkakaisa (unity) can be
harnessed by the youth to build a brighter, more progressive, and sustainable future for the Philippines.
Various activities were organized throughout the month to promote these values, engaging the students
and community members in meaningful ways.
The Filipino Values Month officially began with a flag-raising ceremony, followed by a short
program where the significance of Filipino values was discussed. Students and faculty members came
together to show their commitment to honoring these values in their daily lives.
One of the most anticipated activities was the Poster Making Contest, where students were tasked
with illustrating the theme of the month through art. This contest provided a creative platform for
participants to express how they perceive their role in building a new Philippines by embracing the
values of respect, unity, and love for the environment. Students used a variety of materials and artistic
techniques to depict messages about bayanihan, environmental stewardship, and the importance of
youth leadership. The event encouraged participants to not only showcase their artistic talents but also
to reflect on their role in the nation’s transformation.
The Reading Marathon was an exciting activity that encouraged students to read as many books as
they could within a specified time. Books ranging from classic Filipino literature to modern novels were
made available for students to explore. During the marathon, students were observed fully immersed in
their reading, showcasing their enthusiasm for books and stories. This activity aimed to encourage a
love for reading and help students develop better reading habits. At the end of the marathon, the
students shared their thoughts on the books they had read, discussing the themes and messages they
found most impactful.
Throughout the day, cooking demonstrations were held to showcase the preparation of classic
Filipino dishes. Local chefs, along with culinary students, demonstrated how to prepare popular Filipino
meals, allowing participants to learn firsthand cooking techniques and tips. This interactive session not
only gave attendees the chance to explore Filipino cooking methods but also emphasized the values of
patience, creativity, and resourcefulness in the kitchen values that are often passed down through
generations in Filipino families.
A major highlight of the National Science and Technology Week was the exhibition showcasing
innovative projects, research, and technologies developed by students, researchers, and local
entrepreneurs. The exhibits covered a wide range of fields, from environmental conservation
technologies to medical advancements and digital innovations. These exhibits provided students with a
hands-on experience of how science and technology are transforming various industries and
contributing to nation-building. They also offered insight into the critical role of the youth in advancing
scientific solutions to address challenges in the Philippines.
The Filipino Values Month, with the theme “Pagsulong ng Bagong Pilipinas: Ang Kabataan
bilang pundasyon ng Pagbabago” (Advancing the New Philippines), was a successful and meaningful
celebration that highlighted the crucial role of Filipino values in shaping the future of the nation. The
series of activities, such as Araw ng Pagbasa, a Food Festival, Poster Making and Art Contests, and the
National Science and Technology Week, effectively engaged students and the community in reflecting
on how values like bayanihan, respect, and love for the country contribute to national progress. The
event also emphasized the importance of the youth as the foundation for positive change, inspiring them
to actively participate in shaping a better future for the Philippines. Through these activities, students
not only deepened their understanding of Filipino culture and heritage but also recognized their
responsibility in advancing the nation. Overall, the Filipino Values Month successfully fostered a sense
of pride, unity, and responsibility, motivating the youth to embrace their roles as future leaders
committed to building a New Philippines grounded in strong, values-driven foundations.
