10.0 Surface Speed or Delivery Speed to Production
Surface speed is the amount of distance cover by a roller in a
specific amount of rotation.
Example, Let’s say two roller with diameter 40mm and 100mm in
diameter rotates at 600 RPM calculate the surface speed and
production when the hank is 0.098Ne.
 Then the surface speed or delivery speed=π*d*N

 Surface Speed of 40mm roller=3.14*40*600

=75360 mm/min
 Surface Speed of 100mm roller=3.14*100*600
=188400mm/min
From the result it can be seen that with same roller RPM
higher diameter roller covers more distance

 Production of the rollers per day:

 Production of 40mm Roller
 Delivery Speed=75360mm/min
75360
= m/min
1000
75360∗1.09
= yards/min
1000
75360∗1.09∗60∗24
= yards/day [1 day=60*24 min]
1000
 Problem 1: Calculate the surface speed of a roller of
diameter 300mm and rotating at 1000 RPM.
 Problem 2: Calculate the surface speed of a roller of
radius 100mm and rotating at 1200 RPM
11.0 RPM to Surface Speed
RPM is the number of rotation a roller make in a minutes. To
calculate delivery speed or surface speed the diameter of the roller
needed to be known.
Let’s consider the parameters,
 Roller RPM (N) =500
 Roller Diameter (d) = 34mm
Then the surface speed or delivery speed=π*d*N
=3.14*34*500 mm/min
3.14∗34∗500
= m/min
1000
=53.38 m/min
=53.38*1.09yds/min.
[Note: 1m=1.09yds]
12.0 Surface Speed to RPM
Problem 1: Calculate the RPM of a roller having diameter 550mm
and delivery speed or surface speed is 1450 m/min.
According to equation, Surface speed
π*d*N=1450 m/min
or, π*d*N=1450*1000 mm/min ( Note: The
surface speed is converted to mm per min as the diameter is given
in mm).
1450∗1000
Or, N=( )
π∗d
1450∗1000
= RPM
3.1416∗550
=839.18 RPM
