APPLICATION FORM FOR LATERAL ENTRY TO
B.TECH. (MARINE ENGINEERING)
Indian Maritime University invites applications from eligible candidates fulfilling the educational
and other eligibility criteria for the UG program at its Mumbai Port Campus through the lateral
entry scheme.
It is proposed to fill the seats available for the B.Tech. (Marine Engineering) program being
conducted at IMU, Mumbai Port Campus for Academic Year 2023-2024 through lateral entry
scheme (admission into 2nd year).

The duration will be three academic years consisting of six semesters of course work. For details
of the program and fees please refer to the academic brochure for 2023-2024 available at
www.imu.edu.in.

2nd Year B.Tech. (Marine Engineering) Lateral Entry


(i) Eligibility – 3-years Engineering Diploma in Marine/ Mechanical / Electrical /Electrical &
Educational Electronics, from the colleges approved by AICTE or State Board of Technical
Education with minimum 55% of aggregate marks in the last year of Diploma
Course.
OR
4 years Diploma in Shipbuilding Engineering from the colleges approved by
AICTE or State Board of Technical Education with minimum 55% aggregate
marks in the last year of diploma course
OR
1st year training from the Alternate Training Scheme, approved by D.G.
Shipping (This will not be applicable to MERI).
OR
1st year from the Engineering College in other streams like Mechanical or
Electrical approved by AICTE with minimum 60% average marks.
OR
3 years Diploma Course in the following categories, from the colleges
approved by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education with minimum
55% of aggregate marks in the last year of Diploma Course:
a) Mechanical Engineering Stream : Automobile /Machine Tools and
Maintenance /Plant Engineering / Production Technology /Production
Engineering /Advanced Diploma in Tool and Die Making.
b) Electrical Engineering Stream : Electrical Power System
c) Electrical and Electronics Engineering Stream : Digital Electronics /
Electronics and Communications/ Electronics & Telecommunication /
Industrial Electronics / Electronics / Electronics Production & Maintenance
/Instrumentation / Instrumentation & Control Engineering
AND
The candidate must have secured a minimum of 50% marks in English
language at 10th or 12th or in the Degree/Diploma Course conducted by a
recognized board or University.

The candidate should have completed the diploma within its stipulated duration
of 3 or 4 years as the case may be.
(ii) Age Criteria Maximum age:
(as on Joining date) For Male : Gen-25 years, OBC(NCL)-28 years, SC/ST-30 years
For Female: Gen-27 years, OBC(NCL)-30 years, SC/ST-32 years.

The reference date for calculation of the age will be from the date of
commencement of the academic session.
(iii) Eligibility – Physical Fitness:
Medical Candidates seeking admission to the these Marine Programmes must be
medically fit including eye sight and hearing as prescribed in the Merchant
Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules, 2000, as amended.

At the time of admission, candidates will be required to produce certificate of


medical fitness issued by doctors approved by the Directorate General of
Shipping, Mumbai.

Eye sight :
There shall be no evidence of any morbid condition of either eye or of the lids
of either eye which may be liable to risk of aggravation or recurrence.
Candidates must possess good binocular vision (Fusion faculty and full field
of vision in both eyes). Movement of the eyeballs must be full in all directions
and the pupils should react normally to light and accommodation. Normal
colour vision shall be tested by Ishihara test chart. Distance Vision unaided
0.5*(6/12) in each eye or 0.67*(6/9) in better eye and 0.33*(6/18) in other eye.

At the time of admission, candidates will be required to produce certificate of


medical fitness issued by doctors approved by the Directorate General of
Shipping. (Refer the page at

3. No. of seats vacant :


Total No of seats vacant are 08 and admissions will be made in the order of merit based (i.e. Merit
at the campus level) on aggregate percentage of marks in their respective diploma following the
rule of reservation. The shortlisted candidates will be intimated by e-mail.
4. Procedure to be followed :
A. Candidates should download the application form from www.imu.edu.in /
www.imumumbaiport.ac.in and submit the same along with self-attested copies of
certificates and mark sheets by post or scan copy through e-mail (infomeri@imu.ac.in) so
as to reach the following address on or before 18th July, 2023. The shortlisted candidates
will be intimated by e-mail within 7 working days.

B. The shortlisted candidates shall reach the campus in-person along with all original certificates,
medical fitness certificate issued by DGS approved Doctor, likely to be held between 24-07-2023
and 28-07-2023.

C. An Application Processing Fee `1000/- for General candidate and `700/- for Scheduled Caste
/ Scheduled Tribe candidate to be paid along with the submission of application in the form of
Demand draft payable at Mumbai in favour of “Indian Maritime University, Mumbai Port
Campus”, or you can pay through online, and payment receipt should be sent with the application
form. Online payment can be done through Bank Account No. 1 mentioned below.

D. All candidates require a PASSPORT for joining the course and for obtaining Indian
National Database of Seafarers (INDoS) number. Individually candidates are required to pay
INDOS fees Rs.1416/- (including GST) through online on or before joining date. Following
certificate are required :

i. SSC / 10th Standard Mark sheet / Birth Certificate (for proof of date of birth)
ii. Provisional Certificate / Degree or Diploma Certificate as applicable.
iii. Course Completion Certificate (if provisional certificate is not issued)
iv. Statement of Marks of all Semester / Academic Years.
v. Approved Medical Fitness Certificate from DGS approved doctors complying with MS
Act.
vi. Photo copy of Indian Passport.
vii. Photo copy of Aadhar Card.
viii. Passport Size photo with white background (3 Nos.).

E. IMU reserves the right to allocate any leftover seats in any category to waitlisted candidates in
that category or to any other remaining categories.
F. The selected candidates will have to report at IMU, Mumbai Port Campus and register for the
3rd Semester on 01-08-2023.
5. Fee to be paid after confirmation of admission :
