Steps Involved in Conducting a Community Needs Assessment,

• Identify the population to be surveyed and select a random sample of persons to survey.

• Conduct a review of past and current programs and activities.
• Select a community needs assessment tool/s.
• Identify the goals of the needs assessment.
• Form and established a needs assessment committee or team to solicit citizens and
community involvement and develop a plan of action.
• Determined the community to be assessed and list important issues to be addressed.

Importance of Needs Assessment,
• Give citizens a voice in determining policy, goals, and priorities.

understanding of the different community concerns, processes, dynamics lifestyles through exposure to
and engaging in different activities.

Community Needs Assessment

- is the first step in designing and developing an effective community project or program. It is
both a process and a method. As a process, it can build leadership, group unity, and a sense of
local involvement in the community. It is a process used to determine the needs of individuals
or a group of individuals in order to design a program that will response effectively top the
needs and bring about desired changes in behavior.

within a pre-defined boundary.

Action Plan- A proposed strategy or course of action.

Strategy - A plan of action or policy designed to achieve a major or overall aim.


Policy - It is a course or principle of action adopted or proposed by a government, party, business, or
individual.

Needs - Expressing necessity or obligation in a community.

Community engagement is the process of working collaboratively with and through groups of people
affiliated by geographic proximity, special interest, or similar situations to address issues affecting the
well-being of those people.

It is a powerful vehicle for bringing about environmental and behavioral changes.

Community engagement can take many forms, and partners can include organized groups, agencies,
institutions, or individuals.

Collaborators may be engaged in health promotion, research, or policymaking.

CONCEPTS OF COMMUNITY are insights that provide understanding into the process of community
engagement.

Some of these are Systems Perspective, Social Perspective, Virtual Perspective, And Individual
Perspective.

A community is a social group whose members have something in common, such as a shared
government, geographic location, culture, or heritage.

A community can also refer to the physical location where such a group lives.

The community spectrum is informed, consult, involve, engage, collaborate, and empower.

To consult refers to obtaining public feedback on analysis, options, and/or decisions.

Consult refers to seeking opinion or advice.

To inform refers to providing the public with balanced and objective information to assist them in
understanding the problem and proposed opportunities and/or solutions.

To be informed is when we say “let’s work together to solve this problem.”

Under community engagement were working with the local institutions

Local government institutions may comprise municipal governments, boards of education, district
health boards, and a variety of other special-purpose institutions.

The goal of Community extension service is to empower communities to unleash their potential to
impact.

It is also the best alternative way to transfer technology, talents, and resources of the delivering
institutions.

Community immersion is a group of people living in the same place or having a particular
characteristic in common.
The important elements of a community are demographics, history, culture, economy, income, and ad
structure.

Community engagement serves as the practicum-based element of the NSTP-CWTS where lessons
learned and acquired in NSTP 1 are applied.

To collaborate is to work with each other hand in hand.

To Inform is to communicate from one to others.

The 3rd level of community engagement is Empower.

To empower is to inform the community on how to improve their lives.

The 4th level of community engagement is Collaborate.

To collaborate is to work with each other hand in hand.

The last level of community engagement is Empower.

To empower is to place final decision-making in the hands of the public.

The 1st level of community engagement is Inform.

To inform is to provide the public with balanced and objective information to assist them in
understanding the problem and proposed opportunities and/or solutions.

The second level of community engagement is Consult.

Consult refers to seeking opinion or advice.
