TITLE SOLAR ECLIPSES

EXPLANATION

Solar eclipses are fascinating celestial events that occur when the moon passes between the sun
and the Earth, casting a shadow on our planet.

GENERAL STATEMENT

During a solar eclipse, the moon’s shadow falls on the Earth, temporarily blocking sunlight from
reaching certain areas.

A SEQUENCED EXPLANATION OF STAGE

1.) Partial solar eclipse

As the moon begins to move between the Earth and the sun, it partially covers the sun’s disk,
creating a partial eclipse. During a partial solar eclipse, creating a noticeable darkening of the
sky.

2.) Total solar eclipse

A total solar eclipse is a rare and awe-inspiring event where the moon completely blocks out
the sun, plunging the area beneath its path into darkness.
This phenomenon only occurs when the apparent size of the moon matches that of the sun,
allowing it to entirely obscure the sun’s disk.
Observers within the path of totality experience a brief but breathtaking moment when the
sun’s corona becomes visible, along with stars and planets in the daytime sky.

3.) Anullar solar eclipse

An annular solar eclipse happens when the moon covers the center of the sun, leaving a
bright ring or annulus of sunlight visible around the moon’s silhouette.
This occurs when the moon is farther from the Earth, and its apparent size is smaller than
that of the sun, resulting in the sun’s outer edges being visible during the eclipse.
