BERGER PROTECTOMASTIC Self Priming High Build Coating

USES
Ideal maintenance coating in fertilizers, chemicals, refineries and petrochemicals, bridges, marine and port installations,
pulp and paper, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage units. It is also suitable for use in containment areas of nuclear power
plants. On damp steel surfaces, the aluminium version should always be used as first coat..

SCOPE
A specaily formulated high build surface tolerant epoxy mastic coating for application over manually cleaned rusted
surfaces. Protectomastic is the best available maintenance coating which not only tolerates firmly adhering rust but also
surface dampness. Existing coating, if firmly adhering need not be removed as Protectomastic is compatible with most of
them. Recommended as maintenance coating with suitable top coats. The product is suitable for application on steel as
well as concrete surfaces.

SURFACE PREPARATION
Steel: Remove grease, oil and other contaminants. Make full use of mechanical tools with manual chipping
and wire brushing to remove loose rust and scale to St. 2 or St.3 Swedish Standard SIS 05 5900. Excessive
burnishing of steel is to be avoided. Thoroughly dust down all surfaces. Performance will improve if applied on
MS blasted to Sa 2 1/2 std SIS 05 5900.
Concrete: NEW CONCRETE: Ensure that the concrete is cured for a minimum of three months. The surface is to be made rough
and free from laitance and other contaminants by sand sweeping. OLD CONCRETE: Remove all salt deposits from the surface
by water jet washing . Light sand blast the surface to remove all loosely bound coatings and roughening up of firmly adhering
coatings to ensure anchorage with recommended systems. Ensure all dust/ other particles are fully removed by suction or air
blast and the surface is fully cleaned and dry before application of paints. In non critical reas where blasting is not possible,
water jet washign and hard wise brushign are minimum requisites.

APPLICATION

Stir the components thoroughly and then mix base and catalyst in equal proportions by volume to uniform consistency;
avoid over agitation if mixing is done with a power mixer. Add 10% Thinner T14 immediately before application. However,
additional thinner may be added, if required during application, depending on ambient temperature. Application of frist
coat should preferably be done by brushing for better wetting of the surface. For brushing, use a short bristle for working
the material into all irregularities. However, brush marks will be visible. In order to achieve desired performance it is
essential that the recommended film thickness is obtained. On sharp edges, bold heads, flanges etc., application of a strip
cot will assure freedom from skips or holidays..
Airless Spray : Add maximum upto 10% Thinner T14. Use any standard equipment having pump ratio 45:1 . Tip size
0.53 – 0.68 mm. Tip pressure 110 –160 Kg/cm . 2
