Safety Precautions

Warning

Briot does not assume any responsibilities or liabilities for damages caused by
negligence or ignoring the safety precautions enlisted in this manual.

Note

• The external inverter for use with the Accura Lab must be the Listed Telemecanique
Inverter, model ATV18U29M2.
• The inverter is delivered complete, with cables, plugs, strain relieves, correct
configuration and tested by the manufacturer.
• It must be fixed on the wall at 1.3 m (at least) from the ground and away from water
projection and spill.
• Please note that no field servicing is permitted for this unit.

Safety Precautions

1. Before any operation on the Accura Lab (installation or servicing), check that main
power switch is off and power plugs are both (Accura Lab and inverter) not inserted in
wall socket.
2. Do not place the edger near or on top of a source of energy (radiator or heater).
3. Make sure your voltage source corresponds to the voltage specified on edger nameplate
(see diagram below), located on the rear of the machine.
4. If any type of liquid or material gets into the internal part of the edger, you must do the
following immediately:
• Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet of the edger.
• Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet of the inverter.
• Have the unit checked by a qualified Briot's technician before switching the unit on.
5. If the machine is not going to be used for a long period of time you should unplug the power
cords from the wall outlet.

5 System Cleaning
Accura Lab

Cleaning the Edger

Introduction

In order for your new system to retain its new appearance and ensure proper mechanical
operation, simple care must be taken on a routine basis:
• Clean the edger daily after use
• Follow the direction mentioned in this section
• Care your Briot after sales technician to arrange periodic maintenance.

Daily Cleaning

Basic daily cleaning consists of dust removal by using:

• Pure water or Briot Rex Net
• A soft sponge
• Mild soap or glass cleaner or
• A soft brush
Always wet edger surfaces with a spray bottle with water, to avoid scratching when cleaning.

Caution

Do not use any type of spray hose to clean your system. Avoid any heavy splashing or
spraying that may penetrate the system's scanning and keyboard/interface. This can
cause electrical damage to the system.

Never use chemical solvents, agents or derivatives of such products as:

• Acetone
• Trichlorethylene
• Benzene
• Kerozene
• Lighter Fluid
or
• Any product that claims "Do not use on plastic or painted surfaces" or that contains
CHLORINE, AMMONIA, SODA.
These products directly or even by their simple vapors:
• Might alter the structure and appearance of your system
• Usage of any of these materials will void any guarantee or warranty of the whole unit
or its components.

Accura Lab

Dressing a Roughing Wheel

Warning

Never dress roughing wheel for ORGANIC lenses. You may damage it for good.

Caution

• Make sure you have an ample flow of water over the diamond wheels prior to using the
dressing sticks.
• Use only recommended dressing sticks (orange) by Briot or wheel manufacturer (n° 24 07
016).
• Apply dressing stick to roughing wheel only when considerable slowing down of the cycle time
occurs.

Wear

Please, bear in mind, the more often you apply a dressing stick to your diamond wheels the
faster the wheel is going to wear.

Procedure

Follow the steps below to dress a roughing wheel.

Step Action

1 Start the edging cycle without clamping a lens in the edging station. To do that press
the OK key.

2 Apply the dressing stick on the wheel by applying pressure directly.

For detailed information, see sheet ROUGHING WHEEL CLEANING, supplied with
edger.
3 As you apply the dressing stick on to the diamond wheel, sweep it from left to right to
cover the full width of diamond wheel.
4 Use 20 to 25 mm of dressing stick.
Warning: Excessive use of dressing stick will prematurely decrease the life on the
diamond wheel.

5-4 System Cleaning Issue: June 1999

Accura Lab

Dressing a Finishing Wheel

Caution

• This process requires the water to be flowing over the diamond wheels while using the
dressing sticks.
• Use only the dressing sticks (grey: square section) supplied by Briot, located in the accessory
kit (n° 24 07 017).
• Use only when the finishing cycle time is considerately longer.
• When applying the dressing stick to the bevel wheel, always position the dressing stick to
cover the bevel on the diamond wheel as equally as possible.
• Do not apply the stick unevenly. Uneven application of the dressing stick will alter the bevel
quality on the lens.

Important

When dressing a wheel, you are removing a layer of metal and dull diamonds. Please, bear in
mind, the more often you apply a dressing stick to your diamond wheels, the faster the wheel is
going to wear and thus shorten the life of the wheel and hasten the replacement.

Procedure

Follow the steps below to dress a finishing wheel.

Step Action

1 Start the edging cycle without clamping a lens in the edging chamber. To do that press
the OK key when in the edger screen mode.

2 Apply the dressing stick on the wheel by applying pressure directly.

For detailed information, see sheet BEVEL WHEEL CLEANING, supplied with edger.
3 Use 15 to 20 mm of dressing stick.
Warning: Do not exert on any lateral or rotating motion during this operation.

Issue: June 1999 System Cleaning 5-5

Accura Lab

Dressing a Polishing Wheel

Caution

• Make sure you have an ample flow of water over the diamond wheels prior to using the
dressing sticks.
• Use only recommended dressing sticks (green: rectangular section) by Briot or wheel
manufacturer (n° 24 07 018).
• Apply dressing stick to polishing wheel only when considerable slowing down of the cycle time
occurs.
• When applying dressing stick to bevel wheel always position dressing stick the same way, try
to cover the diamond groove equally with the stick.
• Do not apply the stick in sections, one side or the other.

Wear

Please, bear in mind, the more often you apply a dressing stick to your diamond wheels the
faster the wheel is going to wear.

Procedure

Follow the steps below to dress a polishing wheel.

Step Action

1 Start the edging cycle without clamping a lens in the edging station. To do those press
the OK key.

2 Apply the dressing stick on the wheel by applying pressure directly.

For detailed information, see sheet POLISHING WHEEL CLEANING, supplied with
edger.
3 Use 2 to 3 mm of dressing stick.
Warning: Do not exert on any lateral motion during this operation.
