• DETAIL: Ability to rewrite the understanding in your own way without deforming the original meaning
• EXPANCIATE: Ability to advance the understanding gotten using the former knowledge as a stepping stone.
• NETWORK: Ability to relate one or more related subjects/themes without mixing up the subject/theme
• TRANSFER: Ability to teach to other people. This helps to have many who can be called a student. So, we will now
have STUDENTS

KEY NOTES ABOUT STUDENT?

 STUDENT is more of responsibility than nomenclature. “Don’t enjoy the name and its benefits and neglect the work”.
 The level of your STUDENT-MODE determines the level of your MASTER-MODE. “Don’t run after success as a
STUDENT if you’re not ready to do the work of a STUDENT”.
 It is not a joke to be a student. So, stop joking with your studies! What are you running after? “If what you’re after is
excellent as a student, then GET TO WORK!”

STUDY SMARTER NOT LONGER

1. ALWAYS PREPARE TO STUDY

Manage your time: Make a weekly schedule and devote a certain amount of time per day to studying.

Pace yourself: Find the best speed for you to study and adjust accordingly.

Get enough rest

Clear your mind of anything that doesn't have to do with the topic you're studying. If you've got a lot on your mind, take
a moment to write yourself some notes about what you're thinking about and how you feel before you start studying.
This will help to clear your mind and focus all your thoughts on your work.
 Eliminate electronic distractions
2. ALWAYS SET UP YOUR STUDY SPACE

 Find a good study spot

 Choose background music carefully

 Keep the television turned off

3. SPACE OUT YOUR STUDYING

Kornell compares our memory to water in a bucket that has a small leak. Try to refill the bucket while it’s still full, and you
can’t add much more water. Allow time between study sessions, and some of the material may drop out of your memory.
But then you’ll be able to relearn it and learn more in your next study session. And you’ll remember it better, next time, he
notes.

“Cramming before a big test can leave you exhausted. But you’ll learn and remember material better if you space your study
sessions over the course of several days”.

4. ALWAYS USE THE EFFECTIVE STUDY TECHNIQUES

Try a five-step approach: SURVEY, QUESTION, READ, RECITE, and REVIEW. This is called SQ3R or SQRRR.
 Start with Survey, which means to glance through the chapter to look for tables, figures, headings, and any bold
words.
 Then Question by making each heading into a question.
 Read the chapter while trying to answer the questions you made from the section headings.
 Recite the answers to the questions verbally and any important information you remember from the chapter.
 Review the chapter to make sure you include all the main ideas. Then think about why this is important.
 Highlight important details. Use a highlighter or underline the most important points in the body of the text,
so that you can spot them more easily when you review the material.
 Summarize or outline the material. One good way to study is to write the material in your notes and the
textbook in your own words. That way you can think about it in your terms instead of textbook language.
 Break things into smaller parts
Make associations
Make flashcards
Make a study sheet
Use the THIEVES strategy.
 Start with the ”title”
 Scan the "headings" and subheadings
 Move to the ”introduction”
 Read the first sentence of “every paragraph”
 Look at the ”visuals and vocabulary”
 Read the ”end of chapter questions”
 Look at the chapter “summary”
5. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE! (Daily Practice is your key to success as a STUDENT)

Musicians practice their instruments. Athletes practice sports skills. The same should go for learning.

Some students took practice tests over several weeks. On the final test, they scored more than a full letter grade better, on
average, than did students who studied the way they normally had.

“If you want to be able to remember information, the best thing you can do is PRACTICE”, says Katherine Rawson.

6. LOSE THE CONFUSION — ASK FOR HELP

You can't study effectively if you don't understand the material.

Be sure to ask your teacher for help if you're confused about something. You can check yourself by reading through your
notes. Does it all make sense? If not, ask your teacher to go over it with you. If you're at home when the confusion occurs,
your mom or dad might be able to help.
