Learning Episode 3: THE TABLE OF SPECIFICATIONS (TOS)

ANALYZE

1. Did the distribution of the items in the TOS are expected to measure the
learning competencies of students?

Yes, TOS are expected to measure the learning competencies of students In terms of
exam questions that are effective and fair.

2. Was the items in the TOS favorably or unfavorably in assessing

students performance?

The items in the TOS are favorably in assessing students’ performance based on the
learning competencies that is given.

3. What would be the effect of TOS in the teaching-learning process?

The effect of TOS in the teaching-learning process is that it improves the validity of the
tests made by the teacher and also it has a positive impact on the quality of learning
outcomes.

4. One thing that went well in the development / making of the TOS is

There is a match between what is taught and what is tested. The TOS can be used in
conjunction with lesson and unit planning to help teacher make clear the connections
between planning, instruction, and assessment.

5. One thing that did not go very well in the development / making of the TOS is

Even though making TOS takes enough preparation, I can’t think any part that did not
go very well in the development of TOS.
6. One good thing observed in the TOS is

I observed that it has a strategy that improves validity of a teacher’s

evaluations based on a given assessment. It assist teachers in framing the
test creation decision-making process and increase the validity of teachers'
evaluations based on tests created for classroom use.

7. One thing in TOS format that needs improvement based on what we

have observed is

I think there is no need to improve as it demonstrates a thorough and

concrete foundation for conducting a test.

REFLECT

1. How would attainment of learning outcomes be affected if TOS

were not employed?

The table of specifications (TOS) is a method for ensuring that a test or

assessment measure the material and thinking skills that the exam is
designed to assess. However, if TOS were not employed, you can still
give exams to your students but there is no support of validity and
students may felt that the test they studied for was completely or partially
unrelated to the class activities.

a. The making of TOS went well because

If there is a fit or alignment between what is taught and what is practiced,

TOS making will proceed successfully based on what has been tested.

B. The making of TOS did not go well because

When the questions that has been made is not relevant or fit to the
learning objectives or topic, the TOS will go wrong.

ACT

To ensure that the process in the making or development of the TOS serve
its purpose, to help in the learning process, I will learn from other’s best
practice by researching on
What are the strategies to align assessment to the learning objectives, as well
as to improve the validity on my given assessments.

PLAN
To help improve the TOS practices and implementation, I plan to conduct
an action research on
Relevance of Table of Specification in the Educational Development

LEARNING EVIDENCE
POINTS OF INQUIRY
“A good essential question will inspire a quest for knowledge and
discovery.” Rethink about the key ideas you learn in this episode and
focus on those that you were most intrigued by, then pose/write down at
least 3 questions that can reveal where your understanding is still
uncertain.

1. What has a table of specification to do with the content validity of test?

2. What benefits does table of specification give to both the teachers and
students?
3. To what extent does the creation of TOS aid students in their learning?
