Technology

Theme: Unleashing the Power of Emerging Technologies for

Socio-economic Development
Venue: Delta Lecture Theatre, National University of Science and Technology, Bulawayo,
Zimbabwe
Date: November, 28- 29, 2024

One of the main reasons developing economies are lagging behind industrialized economies
has been identified as the failure to utilize emerging technologies for socio-economic
development. This failure has been associated with several weaknesses in developing and
deploying emerging technologies by developing economies. Of particular concern are
technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and data
science which are still in their infancy in developing economies.Their use in industry and
commerce as well as education and society has been proven to be determined by
appropriate designs, models, and availability of skilled technologists from both industry and
academic institutions. This, therefore calls upon practitioners and academics to develop
both technological and human capacity to deploy technologies that are appropriate for the
context of developing economies.
Against this background, this call for papers invites full papers and research in progress on
empirical studies that aim to address the approaches and models that are necessary for
harnessing emerging technologies for socio-economic development. Areas of Study include:
