Dear Candidate,

Congratulations! I am glad to inform you that you are PROVISIONALLY selected for the Ph.D. Programme in
the Department / Centre / School / Interdisciplinary group of the Institute.

To confirm your admission, remit the following fees by December 22, 2022 (12:00 midnight) through SBI Net
Banking, Canara Net Banking, PAYU (Net Banking, Google Pay, UPI), failing which your offer will stand
cancelled AUTOMATICALLY and NO CLAIM against this offer will be entertained thereafter .

For payment of fees, please visit the Ph.D. Admission webpage "http://www.iitb.ac.in/newacadhome/phd.jsp"
and login to “Online application portal” using your email ID and Password and then select the dept / centre /
school / ID group in which you have been offered the admission to pay the fees ONLINE.

Fees for all categories


(i) Group I (Concessional Fee) :

[Fees are subject to change depending on decisions arising out of Covid-19 situation and consequent impact on mode of
conduct of next semester(s).]
*All candidates admitted under Sponsored Categories (i.e. SW/EX/SF/CT/PS/IS etc.) are
required to make their own arrangement for accommodation and needs to pay fees
without hostel accommodation in IIT Bombay.

The academic programme at IIT Bombay runs in semesterly mode with the duration's of Autumn and Spring
semesters as July, 2022 to December, 2022, and January, 2023 to June 2023, respectively.
If you have opted for Hostel Accommodation then you are required to submit the Mess Advance of
Rs. 27,000/ by ONLINE payment/Net Banking as per the link provided in the online admission portal.
The candidate shall directly contact the Assistant Registrar, Hostel Coordinating Unit(HCU), Ground
Floor, Main Building, IIT Bombay on 022-25768900/8901 or email at arhcu@iitb.ac.in /
hcu.office@iitb.ac.in, for all hostel related queries. Please note that the Institute provides
accommodation on campus strictly for the stipulated duration of Programme under which one is
admitted.
Due to non-availability of Hostel Accommodation during the last week of December
2022, the hostel room will be allocated to new entrants only after Friday, the 30th
December 2022 [12:00 noon onwards]. You are therefore advised to book/plan your
travel accordingly.
Hostel accommodation will be extended to FA/TA/RA/TAP/RAP/SF (Monash) category students of all PG
programmes. However, please note that due to the extreme paucity of hostel rooms at IIT Bombay the initial two
years of accommodation will be in double occupancy
The Registration & Orientation Programme is scheduled on January 1, 2023. You are
advised to refer Ph.D. Admission webpage "http://www.iitb.ac.in/newacadhome/phd. jsp"
for more details on Registration & Orientation Programme.

Verification of documents / certificates will be held on in the concerned academic unit. You are required to
show self-attested copies of your Educational qualification, Date of Birth, Migration, Caste / Tribe / Non-Creamy
Layer / Disability / EWS certificates, etc. along with ORIGINALS for verification. The OBC-NC candidates needs
to submit the latest OBC-NC certificate issued after 31st March, 2022, as per the given format. You are
advised to refer http://www.iitb.ac.in/newacadhome/phd.jsp for more details about verification of documents
in the month of January 2023.

If you have not yet completed your qualifying degree (result awaited) then you need to email a certificate issued
from the Head / Principal of the Institute / College, which you have last attended, that you will clear your degree
requirements before the commencement of the semester when you will join. This email needs to be send to the
concerned Head of the Department wherein you have been selected.

You must submit your passing certificates and proof for having First class or 60% Marks (55% for SC/ST) in
qualifying degree examination by 28th February 2023, failing which, your admissions will stand canceled.

The candidates selected under Sponsored / External / College Teacher category are required to submit the
following additional certificates before the commencement of the semester:
1. Sponsorship Certificate,
2. Bio-data of External Guide (External candidate only)
3. Details about the Research facilities at the parent organization
4. Candidates working in Colleges/Universities have to produce a letter from the University stating that the
University has no objection to him/her to pursue studies and obtain Ph.D. degree from IIT Bombay.
5. Certificates for the present employer permitting to undertake course works from IIT Bombay.
If you are admitted under the Fellowship Awardees (FA) category with CSIR / UGC / NBHM / DBT / DST
Inspire fellowships, then you MUST submit a valid JRF Offer Letter issued by the respective agency confirming
the award of the fellowship for Ph.D. programme before the commencement of the semester failing which the
offer under the respective category will stand cancelled.

Please note that your admission is PROVISIONAL subject to the fulfillment of all academic and non-academic
requirements specified in the information brochure and in this Admission Offer letter. The Institute reserves the
right to withdraw the admission at any stage in case a candidate does not possess the minimum qualification or
First class or 60% marks (55% in case of SC / ST / PwD)* in qualifying degree or do not fulfill any requirement
given in brochure / admission offer or give any false information.

Candidates, with First class or 60% marks (55% for SC / ST / PwD) in M.Sc. / B.E. / B.Tech. or equivalent and
provisionally selected under Teaching Assistant (TA) / Research Assistant (RA) / Fellowship Awardees (FA)
categories MUST HAVE a valid GATE score or a valid JRF Offer Letter issued by the respective agency [i.e.
CSIR / UGC / NBHM / DBT / DST Inspire] confirming the award of the fellowship for PhD. programme, failing
which the offer under the respective category will stand cancelled.

Candidates selected under TA / RA / TAP (TA thru' project) / RAP (RA thru' project) categories cannot accept or
hold any appointment paid or otherwise or to receive any emoluments, salary, stipend from any source during the
tenure of TA / TAP / RA / RAP -ship. Hence, candidates selected for TA / TAP / RA / RAP and having
employment with or without pay with any organisation / Institution / Establishment / project etc. must leave the
job and submit relieving certificate before joining the Ph.D programme.

Candidates joining programme under SW / CT / EX categories must submit requisite certificate (in the format
given in the Information Brochure) from their employers before joining the Ph.D programme, failing which, their
admissions will stand cancelled.

Please note further that submission of all documents have to be on-line and the procedure will soon be
uploaded on the Ph.D. Admission webpage "http://www.iitb.ac.in/newacadhome/phd.jsp". Please visit this
page regularly.

If you want to cancel/withdraw your admission after paying the requisite fees then you MUST communicate the
same by email to phd_unit5@iitb.ac.in, with subject "Cancellation of Ph.D. admission (2022-23) (1st Offer)" by
specifying the department and specialization. Please note that such request will be entertained, ONLY IF, the
request is made through the email ID given in the Application form.

The details about the “Refund of fees due to cancellation / withdrawal of admission’ are given in the Institute
webpage https://www.iitb.ac.in/newacadhome/phd.jsp . The refund will be sent to the respective candidate's Bank
account (through which they have debited/paid the admission fees) within 8-10 weeks from the receipt of such
email/request.

The use and maintain of any motorized vehicle on the campus is strictly prohibited, excepting medical cases as
required.
