GROUP PROJECT CEM583_OCT24-FEB 2025_12PO(1)
This assignment is conducted to evaluate students on their cognitive (problem solving) and affective
skills (ethics and communication) which will focus on their ability to deal with relevant Construction
Laws. This assignment is to be carried out by a group of students (maximum of 5 person/group) related
to the problem statement specified.
There are three (3) Course Outcomes (CO) and three (3) Program Outcomes (PO) respectively to be
addressed by this assignment as mapped in Table 1.
CO2: Express concern to the PO8: Ability to exercise professional civil engineering practices
society regarding social, health, with ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and
safety, legal and cultural issues responsibilities.
by accepting professional ethical
standards.
CO3: Adapt the case study/ PO10: Ability to impart effectively complex engineering
problems and conceptualize in activities through presentations, written and verbal
reports of valid findings. communications to the engineering community and society at
large.
Based on the COPO mapping above, the following Learning Outcomes to be attained by the students at
the end of this group assignment are as follows:
1. Students must be able to impart effectively complex engineering activities through presentations,
written and verbal communications to the engineering community and society at large.
2. Students must be able to describe and explain the principles and procedures of law and legislation
in Malaysia as applied to the design and construction process and use this knowledge to analyse
problems and prepare reports of valid findings.
3. To provide students with a systematic understanding of the knowledgebase of various aspect of
Construction Laws; the ability to analyse complex issues both systematically and creatively; make
sound judgments in the absence of complete data and communicate their conclusion clearly; the
ability to be self-directed and independent learning in tackling and solving problems.
4.0 Knowledge Profiles (WK), Complex Problem Characteristics (WP) and Engineering Activities
(EA) Characteristics
This group assignment requires the students to identify, analyse, propose, and justify the solutions to
complex engineering problems (WP1, WP2 & WP6) with required knowledge profiles (WK3, WK5 & WK9)
and engineering activity characteristics (EA1, EA2 & EA4) to be demonstrated by the students as shown
below:

Department of Environment (DOE) Malaysia has enforced an Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA)
to be carried out and submitted for their review and approval prior to the relevant affected project (as stated
in the Environmental Quality (Prescribed Activities) (Environmental Impact Assessment) Order
2015). The possible negative impact on the surroundings of developing for any risky project urges the
professionals to develop solutions to mitigating the problems. Presume you and your firm are appointed
as the EIA lead consultant/EIA consultant for a project in Malaysia as describe in the Prescribe
Activities [Environmental Quality (Prescribed Activities) (Environmental Impact Assessment)
Order 2015)] specifically Schedule 9: Infrastructure. Plan and assess the implementation pertaining to
this report for the selected project sites before kicking-off the construction activities. In addition, you must
comprehend the role of engineering in society and identified issues in engineering practice in the discipline:
such as ethics and the professional responsibility of an engineer to public safety; the impacts of
engineering activity: economic, social, cultural, environmental and sustainability.
