LSES Celebrates Eight-Year Winning Streak in Gulayan sa Paaralan

Lucapon South Elementary School has once again demonstrated its commitment to
excellence in both environmental and educational initiatives. The school has won the
Municipal Gulayan sa Paaralan Contest a remarkable 8 times in a row, solidifying its reputation
as a leader in promoting sustainable practices among schools in the district.
In addition to this impressive streak, the school earned 2nd place in the 2024 Division Search
for the Best E-GPP (Enhanced Gulayan sa Paaralan Program) Project Game School
Implementer in all Zambales, showcasing the school's creativity and effective innovation in
promoting environmental education.
The continuous success of LSES can be attributed to the combined efforts of the school’s
dedicated faculty, staff, and the entire community. School Head Joann M. Medrana expressed
her gratitude for the hard work and determination shown by everyone involved. "This
achievement would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our teachers,
parents, and students," Medrana said. "Their cooperation and commitment to fostering a
culture of sustainability in the school have made all the difference."
The school’s Focal Person, Ghiliza Quimson, has also been instrumental in coordinating the
activities that led to these victories. Under her guidance, the school has consistently
maintained high standards for the E-GPP, while also embracing innovative teaching methods
that engage both students and the wider community in green initiatives.
Mrs. Geny Zarate, the assigned teacher responsible for the program’s implementation, shared
that the success of the garden project was driven by teamwork and community involvement.
"The key to our continued success is the active participation of our parents, students, and
faculty in every stage of the program. Together, we have nurtured a passion for gardening,
sustainability, and environmental responsibility among the students," Zarate said.
Lucapon South Elementary School's victories in these competitions not only highlight the
school's leadership in environmental education but also serve as a reminder of the
importance of collaboration among teachers, students, and parents. With a firm foundation in
sustainable practices, the school is poised to continue its legacy of excellence in the years to
come.
In 2024, the Philippine agriculture sector faced a "perfect storm" of challenges, as described
by Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr.
The convergence of natural disasters, including El Niño and La Niña phenomena, along with
successive typhoons, significantly impacted agricultural productivity.
The El Niño-induced drought led to substantial agricultural losses, prompting several local
government units to declare states of calamity. For instance, Negros Oriental and Cebu were
among the provinces that took such measures in May 2024.
Additionally, the onslaught of typhoons, such as Typhoon Usagi, caused further devastation,
flattening crops and threatening economic growth.

Despite these adversities, Lucapon South Elementary School has once again demonstrated its
commitment to excellence in both environmental and educational initiatives. The school has
won the Municipal Gulayan sa Paaralan Contest a remarkable 8 times in a row, solidifying its
