and effects of
electrons and with
electronic devices.
 Anelectronic
component is any
basic discrete device
ELECTRONIC or physical entity in
COMPONENTS an electronic system
used to affect
electrons or their
associated fields.
2 TYPES OF

DISCRETE
COMPONENTS

electrical circuit with one dominant
function.

FIXED RESISTORS

It limit or resist the

amount of current
flowing in a circuit.
VARIABLE RESISTORS

SPECIAL RESISTORS (THERMISTORS)

VARIABLE RESISTORS

POTENTIOMETER

 is a three-terminal
resistor with a sliding or
rotating contact that forms
an adjustable voltage
divider. If only two terminals
are used, one end and the
wiper, it acts as a variable
resistor or rheostat.
VARIABLE RESISTORS

 TRIMMER

 A trimpot or trimmer is a
small potentiometer which is
used for adjustment, tuning
and calibration in circuits.
When they are used as a
variable resistance (wired as
a rheostat) they are called
preset resistors.
VARIABLE RESISTORS

 LDR (Light Dependent Resistor)

An LDR sensor is a critical

component in electronic devices
and systems designed to detect
and respond to changes in light
levels.
VARIABLE RESISTORS

 THERMISTORS

A thermistor is a resistance
thermometer, or a resistor
whose resistance is dependent
on temperature. The term is a PTC Positive Temperature Coefficient
combination of “thermal” and NTC Negative Temperature Coefficient
“resistor”

CAPACITORS

which store electric

charge in a certain period
of time depending on its
capacitance.

Capacitance is
measured in micro Farad
ELECTROLYTIC
POLARIZED CAPACITOR

CERAMIC
NON-POLARIZED CAPACITOR
TRANSISTORS

 It regulates the
currents in a circuit
and also served as gate
or switch of electronic
signal.
Bipolar Junction
Transistor
INDUCTORS

It resists changes or

maintain the flow of
current in a circuit.

 Inductance is
measured in Henry
DIODE

 It directs current to ZENER DIODE SIGNAL DIODE

flow only in one
direction.

LED Light Emitting Diode

POWER DIODE
POWER DIODE

 is the two
terminal(namely anode and
cathode) two layer(P-N)
device which is used in most
of the power electronics
circuits

SWITCHES

A mechanical, electrical, electronic, or

optical device for opening or closing a
circuit or for diverting energy from one
part of a circuit to another.
SWITCH Push Button Switch
SWITCH Slide Switch
SWITCH Seesaw/Rocker Switch
SWITCH Toggle Switch
INTEGRATED COMPONENTS
(MICRO CHIPS)

A group discrete components packed

into one and do specific function like;
TIMER, COUNTER , LOGIC GATES
and many other.
Discrete components and
IC can be combined in a circuit.
3 types of Integrated
Circuit

ANALOG IC

DIGITAL IC

MICROPROCESSOR
555 TIMER

 can be used as a 555

Monostable or 555
Bistable Timer to
Generate Timing
Pulses.
CD4017 IC

 is used for counting

applications, it has the
capability to turn on 10
outputs sequentially in
a pre-defined time and
reset the count or hold
it when required.
DC MOTOR

DC motor is a motor

that turns energy
from a direct current
and turns this into
mechanical energy.
OPEN-SOURCE
PLATFORM
A program whose source code is made available for use
or modification as users or other developers see fit.
ARDUINO (UNO)
 consists of both a physical
programmable circuit board
(often referred to as a
microcontroller) and a
piece of software, or IDE
(Integrated Development
Environment) that runs on
your computer, used to
write and upload computer
code to the physical board.
RASPBERRY PI (3)
 is a low cost, credit-card
sized computer that plugs into
a computer monitor or TV,
and uses a standard keyboard
and mouse. It is a capable
little device that enables
people of all ages to explore
computing, and to learn how
to program in languages like
Scratch and Python.
OTHER ELECTRONIC
COMPONENTS, TOOLS
and EQUIPMENT
BATTERY (9V)

 A 9V battery is ideal in a
device that draws very
little power under normal
circumstances but needs a
quick burst of energy at a
moment's notice.
MULTI METER TESTER
ANALOG MULTI
METER TESTER
 A multimeter that is also
known as a multitester or
VOM, is a standard electronic
measuring instrument for
technicians and electricians
in the electrical and
electronic industries used to
measure various electrical DIGITAL MULTI
parameters such as voltage, METER TESTER
current, and resistance.
PCB PRINTED CIRCUIT
BOARD

 an electronic circuit
consisting of thin strips of a
conducting material such as
copper, which have been
etched from a layer fixed to
a flat insulating sheet
called a printed circuit
board, and to which
integrated circuits and
other components are
attached.
BREAD BOARD

 is a solderless device for

temporary prototype with
electronics and test circuit
designs. Most electronic
components in electronic
circuits can be
interconnected by inserting
their leads or terminals into
the holes and then making
connections through wires
where appropriate.
SOLDERING IRON

 a tool used for melting

solder and applying it to
metals that are to be
joined.
DESOLDERING PUMP

 also known
as solder sucker is a small
mechanical device which
sucks the liquid/molten
solder from the PCB
where the electronic
components are mounted.
SOLDERING WIRE

 basically a
metal wire with a "low"
melting point (LEAD and
TIN), low enough to be
melted with
a soldering iron with
conductive substance and
electrically
connect electronic
components together.
SOLDERING STAND

 composed of a heavy-
duty metal base and a
reinforced spring is used
to keep the hot soldering
away from you and the
work area.
SOLDER FUME
EXTRACTOR
 used primarily to
extract the fumes
generated during hand
soldering.

Equipped with activated

carbon filter, which can
effectively absorb toxic
gases and provides a
safe working condition.
ALLIGATOR CLIPS

 is a plier-like spring-
tensioned metal clip
with elongated,
serrated jaws that is
used for creating a
temporary electrical
connection.
JUMPER WIRES
Jumper wires are simply
 wires that have connector
pins at each end, allowing
them to be used to
connect two points to
each other without
soldering. Jumper wires
are typically used with
breadboards and other
prototyping tools in order
to make it easy to change
a circuit as needed.
