Personal Statement
Driven by fac si facis, a Latin phrase for do it if you are going to do it, I made the conscious decision to continue with my schooling after a long time. This is my story and a humble request for financial support in pursuing my college education. I will lie by saying that my academic journey has been seamless up to this point, and I am aware of mistakes that derailed my progress. However, the experiences I picked have become the foundation of my resilience and determination to forge a better path.
Growing up in a humble background, I believed education was my best chance to unlock a
brighter future. Unfortunately, this took an ugly turn during my middle years in school. After the 2008 post-election violence that found me in Langas slums of Eldoret left a mark that I couldn't erase. The aftermath came with academic setbacks and moments of self-doubt. Recognizing the trauma and my poor choice's impact, I decided to change my approach to life and education. Today, I stand as a transformed individual. I am driven by a strong desire to excel academically and give back to my community.
Through hard work and discipline, I have made significant strides. I have completed my first year at Lugari Diploma Teachers Training College, pursuing an English/Geography course. Besides academics, I have participated in community services like building gabions to control soil erosion in the Soweto village of Lumakanda. This has taught me the value of responsibility and collaboration. Additionally, it has instilled perseverance, which has come in handy in my pursuit of academic excellence.
My dream is to pursue a diploma in education, as I know it will equip me with the knowledge and skills to contribute meaningfully to society. Specifically, I aspire to become a junior secondary school who inspires young minds. I also want to develop long-lasting solutions to local challenges that include but are not limited to land degradation and poor sanitation. I am confident that with the right education and your unwavering support, I can attain this dream and create lasting change.
I am determined to make the most of this golden opportunity and ensure that your investment in my education will not be in vain. Your generosity will enable me to pay for tuition and other essentials. Furthermore, it will inspire me to continue striving, with the hope of one day paying it forward to others in need.
