What is physical fitness

- Physical fitness refers to the ability of your body systems to work together effectively.
It also refers to the overall health and well-being of the body.

The following are the components of physical fitness:

A. Health-related Components
1. Cardiovascular Endurance – The ability of the heart and lungs to provide sufficient
oxygen-rich blood to the body.
2. Body Composition – Refers to the relative amounts of lean body mass and body
fat.
3. Muscular Endurance – The ability of a certain muscle group to perform repetitive
motions for long periods of time
4. Flexibility – Refers to the ability of the joints to move through pain free range of
motion
B. Skill-related Components
1. Speed – Ability to move quickly in a short amount of time
2. Balance – Ability to distribute weight that helps a person to stand or move without
the event of falling.
3. Coordination – The ability to let body parts move in a smooth and efficient
manner.
4. Power – Ability to exert maximum force in a short period of time.
5. Reaction time – Refers to the time it takes to respond in a short period of time.

Why is physical fitness important?

- Physical fitness promotes physical health, reducing the risk of chronic diseases such
as diabetes, stroke, and heart disease. It also improves mental health, helping reduce
anxiety and increased self-esteem. Doing activities such as running, playing sports,
going to the gym also helps with productivity increasing stamina to do these
activities more often.

How can I be physically fit?

1. Do what you love – Doing activities you are interested in can motivate you to do the
activities more effectively.
2. Be consistent – Though it’s hard to be consistent, finding the silver lining in what you
do can help you pursue physical fitness. The goal of physical fitness isn’t just to be
physically fit but to be mentally stable, having a positive mindset. Make fitness a
regular part of your lifestyle
3. Nutrition is key – Being mindful with what you eat also comes with being physically
fit. Balancing the nutrition of what you consume can have a big impact with being
physically fit. Hydration is also a major factor in being physically fit.
