Exercise 1 Read the text and answer to the questions: 4p

Dear Teen Line, the friends I hang out are a crowd with bad behavior- bullying other kids, missing school, writing
graffiti, breaking windows, even shoplifting. I’m not this and I don’t feel comfortable about it, but I go along with it
because I don’t want to lose my friends. What should I do?
Dear worried! It’s natural that you want to fit in with people your own age by doing what they do. It’s called peer
pressure. But if you know that something is wrong, you shouldn’t do it. After all, if you don’t respect yourself, you
won’t get any respect from other people. So, try to believe in yourself and have the self-confidence to stand up for
what you know is right. Do this, and your friends may start copying what you do for a change. You’re sure to meet
new friends who appreciate you for who you really are- and that’s the best kind of friendship there is.

Exercise 1 Read the text and answer to the questions: 4p

The brain is the command centre of the body. It receives nerve signals from all parts of the body, analyses them
and sends back its own signals, which control our actions and body functions. The brain stores our memory, and is
responsible for all our thoughts and emotions. It has special areas which enables us to use language, solve difficult
problems and create works of art. The cerebrum is the largest and most complex part of the brain. Its outer part is
the cortex, a layer of neurons. Different areas of the cortex are responsible for different things such as; receiving
sensory signals (sight, hearing, touch and so on), and sending nerve impulses to the muscles which produce
voluntary movement. Areas called association cortex control mental abilities such as thought, speech and memory.
The cerebellum works together with the cerebrum to coordinate movement, and it controls balance and memory.
The brain stem controls body functions such as breathing and heartbeat, regulates hunger, thirst, body
temperature and so on. Its other major function is to control signals between the brain and the body, or between

Exercise 1 Read the text and answer to the questions about it: 4p

On 4th July many Americans gather in parks across the country to listen to the Declaration of Independence read
out by actors in typical 18th century clothes. These re-enactments take them back in time to 1776, when the
Declaration of Independence was first read out loud. Before 1776,there were 13 British colonies ruled by British
and paid taxes to the British king, George III. In 1773,when a new tax was introduced on tea, there was a protest in
Boston. It led to a war between the Colonies and Great Britain, known as the American War of Independence.
In July 1776, leaders from all 13 colonies agree on the Declaration of Independence and create the United States of
America. It was not until 1783,after more fighting, that the British accepted the independence of the colonies. The
re-enactments help the Americans to remember that 4th July is about living in a country which believes, ”All men
are created equal”. The Declaration states that everyone has the right to, ”life, liberty and the pursuit of
