Product Description
Phoresis Core is a software intended for the control of all Sebia instruments, and for the analysis of result data
obtained using these instruments. Using a SQL server for its backend database, multiple instruments can be
concurrently connected to a single database, unifying patient history. For increased reliability and performance,
this database can reside in the customers’ datacenters.

Phoresis Core can also be installed on Pathologist computers, giving them the ability to review, interpret and sign
out results remotely.

Configuration Examples
This example showcases a Capillarys3 and Hydrasys2 solution. Both instruments are connected to a computer
running the PostgreSQL server database, and two pathologists have access to the database for remote
interpretations.

This example showcases a two Capillarys3 and one Hydrasys2 solution. Instruments are connected to their own
computer, but the PostgreSQL database is located on a server residing in a datacenter. Pathologists have access to
the database for remote interpretations.

1. Minimum Hardware Specifications

• Sebia provided computers (connected to instruments)
o Brand/Model: Dell Precision or Optiplex lines (latest models available)
o HDD: 240 Gb SSD
o RAM: 8Gb
o Processor: Intel i5
o NIC: 1Gb
o Windows10 PRO

Since the software and instrument together have been validated as a medical device, Sebia does not
permit customers to provide alternate PC hardware and/or OS when connected to instruments.

• Pathologist Computer Minimum Specifications (optional for remote sign out, not provided by Sebia)
o HDD: 1Gb free space
o RAM: 4Gb
o Processor: i5 or similar
o NIC: 1Gb
o Windows 10

2. Server Database
Using PostgreSQL as its backend database server software, Sebia’s Networking solution is highly flexible and
customizable. The database can remain local on a Sebia computer or be moved to a Windows Server located
in a Datacenter, which increases performance, security and reliability. This can be a virtual server.

• Server Minimum Specifications (optional for database hosting, not provided by Sebia)
o HDD: 100Gb (can be split OS/DATA/BACKUP)
o RAM: 8Gb
o Processor: Quad Core CPU
o NIC: 1Gb
o OS: Windows Server 2016, 2019 or 2022

3. Third Party Software

• Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable (v2) (KB893803)
• Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Runtime Libraries (vcredist_x86.exe)
• Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe)
• PDFCreator (PDFCreator-1_7_3_setup.exe)
• Motorola CoreScanner Driver (CoreScanner32v1.01.0001.exe)
• PostgreSQL Server 8.3 (postgresql-8.3-int.msi)*
• PostgreSQL ODBC Driver

*PostgreSQL server only to be installed on Sebia provided computers, not on Pathologist computers.
PostgreSQL version 9.5 installed on customer provided Servers

4. Networking
All Sebia provided computers have dual NICs. One will be used for an isolated Sebia network on which all
instruments and computers communicate. The other is for optional domain connectivity needed by customers.

Sebia does not require internet access on the provided computers. It is however recommended to allow Sebia to
remotely support and troubleshoot instrument/software issues.

5. Adding Sebia Computers to a Domain

To increase security following the institution’s standard policies, Sebia allows customers to add provided
computers to their domain.

Note that users who will be using the application need to have “Full control” permissions on the Phoresis directory
located in C:\Program Files (x86)\

6. Malware and Virus Protection

Sebia computers are provided with the latest version of Windows Defender (as of build), but Sebia also allows
customers to install their institution’s antivirus.

Note that the directory C:\Program Files(x86)\Phoresis needs to be excluded from virus scans.

7. Encryption
Full hard drive encryption is available on Windows10 using BitLocker (not enabled by default). BitLocker can
encrypt the entire hard drive and/or removable devices so that they become unreadable when connected to
another computer.

Sebia also allows customers to use their institution’s encryption solution.

8. Database Backup
A backup task can be configured to perform a database backup on a customizable schedule. The location of the
backup (i.e. external drive, network share) and retention policy (number of backup files kept) are also
customizable.

9. Ports
Sebia utilizes port TCP 5432 for database communications. Additionally, a customer chosen port may be needed
for LIS communication in TCP/IP mode.

10. Authentication
The Phoresis software does not support AD/LDAP integration, but has a built-in user management that supports
password complexity (length, characters) and expiration.

11. Remote Support

Sebia uses the GoToAssist platform for remote support. For the session to begin, the user would be requested to
browse to GoToAssist’s website and enter a unique key provided by a Sebia agent.

An internet connection is needed on the computers to establish the session.

12. Citrix Environment

The Phoresis application is known to be working in a Citrix XenApp/StoreFront (for pathologists only). When
multiple Site Licenses are purchased, this configuration eases installation management and software updates.

13. LIS Communications

Sebia uses a single proprietary protocol (Phoresis Extended) for all analyzers. Most LIS companies have drivers
available for Phoresis. This list includes, but is not limited to:
• Cerner
• SunQuest
• Meditech
• SCC Soft
• Epic Beaker
• Orchard Harvest/Sequoia
Data Innovation’s Instrument Manager may be also used as a middleware between Sebia and the LIS vendor.

Sebia offers three connection methods:

• RS232 (Serial)
• Ethernet (TCP/IP)
• File Transfer

Sebia’s HOST module can receive/transfer data in either manual mode or automatic mode, which is customizable
per assay.

In the scenario of having multiple instruments connected to a single database, one physical connection can be
used for all instruments. Sebia has the capability to export the serial number of the instrument that produced the
results as part of the data fields exported to the LIS.

Demographics received from the LIS:

• Patient name
• Date of birth
• Age
• Sex
• Department
• Sample Date
• Concentration (Total Protein) – Not applicable with Cerner and older versions of the SunQuest driver
• 5 customizable fields (i.e. MRN, location, ordering physician)

Results exported to the LIS:

• Operator ID
• Fraction names
• Fraction % numerical values
• Fraction g/dl numerical values (concentrations)
• Quantified peak names (up to 4)
• Quantified peak % numerical values (up to 4)
• Quantified peak g/dl numerical values (concentrations, up to 4)
• Ratios (such as A/G ratio, customizable, up to 2)
• Comments
• Customizable fields (i.e. Instrument serial number, flags, curve dots)

Full LIS/HOST manual available upon request.
