COMPANY PROFILE: Davangere city corporation

• A Municipal corporation is a local government in India that administers urban areas with a growing
population and urbanization in various cities of India. In Davanagere city civil administration of the
city managed by “Davanagere City Corporation” (Davanagere Mahanagara Palike), before it

3. INTERNSHIP ACTIVITIES

WEEK 1: PLANNING AND DESIGN

Introduction
• A road pavement structure is made of multiple layers of processed and compacted materials.
• In different thicknesses and in both unbound and bound forms, which together form a structure that primarily
supports vehicle loads as well as providing a smooth riding quality.
Road pavement decorative over time due to:
 The impact of traffic, particularly heavy vehicles.
 Environment factors such as weather, pollution
Types of pavements
 Flexible pavement.
 Rigid pavement
MATERIALS USED

1. Cement
2. Fine aggregate
3. Coarse aggregate
4. Water
5. Polythene sheet

EQUIPMENTS USED
 Excavator  Vibrators  Concrete floater

 Roader roller machine  Concrete mixer  Groove cutter

METHODOLOGY

1. Preparation of sub grade 3. Preparation of concrete slab

2.Preparation of sub base 4. Finishing

5. Curing
WEEK 2: PRE-CONSTRUCTION
• CEMENT CONCRETE DRAIN

Introduction

• Highway drainage is an essential part of highway design and construction which remove
the surplus water with in highway limits and dispose it. Road drainage is mainly due to
surface runoff from adjacent area, precipitation of rain and moisture rising by capillarity
from groundwater table. Drainage is the process of interception and removal of water
from over, and under vicinity of the road surface. Drainage can be surface (where water is
conveyed on the road surface and drainage channels), or subsurface (Water flows
underneath the pavement structure).
REQUIREMENTS OF ROAD IMPORTANCE OF DRAINAGE
DRAINAGE

• The surface water from the carriageway and shoulder • To prevent subgrade failure
should be drained off effectively.
• To prevent slope failure

• The flow of surface water along the slopes or across • To prevent pavement edge

WEEK 3: CONSTRUCTION WORK

1. Site clearance 3. Granular base slab/base course 5. Compaction with vibrator

2. Subgrade preparation 4. Concrete placing 6. curing

WEEK 4: POST CONSTRUCTION

• Once the road surface is complete, there are still important steps to be taken to ensure the longevity and safety
of the road.
• Inspecting and testing the road surface: Before opening the road to traffic, the surface must be
inspected and tested for quality and safety. This can include testing for smoothness, skid resistance, and
pavement thickness, among other factors.
• Completing final cleanup and demobilization: After the road is open to traffic, the construction site
must be cleaned up and all equipment and materials demobilized. This includes removing any temporary
structures, disposing of any waste materials, and restoring the site to its original condition.
• Conducting ongoing maintenance and repairs: Proper maintenance and repairs are critical to ensuring
the road remains safe and functional over time. This can include routine inspections, repairs to any
cracks or potholes, and regular resurfacing to maintain the integrity of the pavement.

By following these post-construction steps, road construction projects can be completed successfully and safely,
with a focus on long-term durability and usability.
REFLECTION OF WORK
TECHNICAL OUTCOMES OF THE INTERNSHIP

• Able to analyses and understand the drawings and plans of the construction.

• Developing a technical arte fact requiring new technical skills.

• I relate the practical knowledge of site with my Engineering Knowledge. I have learned about a step by step guide to
the “road construction process”, from planning and design to post-construction maintenance. so I was able to relate
that knowledge onsite.

• Analyzing or visualizing data to create information selecting appropriate technologies.

NON-TECHNICAL OUT COMES THE INTERNSHIP

• Communication skill with labours

• Construction practices

• How to behave with labours

• Importance of time

• Communication skills with material supplier
