1. Find the sum of money which amounts to ₹14,520 in 2 years at a


compound interest rate of 10% p.a.
2. The percentage profit earned by selling an article for ₹1920 is equal to the
percentage loss incurred by selling the same article for ₹1280. At what
price should the article be sold to make 25% profit?
3. . Half of a herd of deer are grazing in the field and three-fourths of the
remaining are playing nearby. The rest 9 are drinking water from the
pond. Find the number of deer in the herd.
4. ₹3500 is to be shared among three people so that the first person gets
50% of the second, who in turn gets 50% of the third. How much will
each of them get?
5. A coat is marked at ₹4000, a discount of 25% is offered on the coat. After
adding the sales tax the final cost of the coat comes to ₹3240. Find the
rate of sales tax.
6. The sales tax rate is 8%. If Rahul bought a new car and paid a sales tax
of ₹19,200, what was the cost of the car before the tax?
7. P can make a Diamond set in 40 days and Q in 45 days. They work
together for 10 days and then Q goes away. In how many days will P
finish the remaining work?
8. A and B together can paint a room in 18 days. They work together for 8
days and then B goes away. A finishes the rest of work in 15 days. How
long would each take to finish the work if they work separately?

9 . Seena borrowed ₹30,000 from Arsh at the rate of 5% p.a C.I for 2 years.
Find:
i) The interest she pays for the first year.
ii) The principal for the second year.
iii) Final amount she has to pay at the end of the second year.
iv) The overall interest paid.
10. Evaluate √2.8 correct to 2 decimal places.
11. On decreasing the price of a showpiece by 8%, it becomes ₹317.40. What
was its original price?
12. Nita is twice as old as Ashima. If six years is subtracted from Ashima’s
age and four years added to Nita’s age, then Nita will be four times
Ashima’s age. How old were they two years ago?
13. There are 180 multiple choice questions in a test. If a candidate gets 4
marks for every correct answer and for every unattempted or wrongly
answered question one mark is deducted from the total score of correct
answers. If a candidate scored 450 marks in the test, how many
questions did he answer correctly?
14. My mother is 12 years more than twice my age. After 8 years, my mother’s
age will be 20 years less than three times my age. Find my age and my
mother’s age.

16. If the sum of interior angles of a polygon is 3780°, find
the number of sides.
17. In a school meeting 10 people have phones, 16 have laptops and
8 have neither of the two. If the total number of people in the meeting
is 30, calculate;
i) the number of people who have both the phone and the laptop.
ii) The number of people with laptops only.
18. The area of a trapezium is 165 cm² and its height is 10 cm. If one of the
parallel sides is double of the other, find the two parallel sides.
